What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

The Scrappy Sampler top (my version) is at the quilters. Hope to have it to share soon. In the meantime, I made a pair of potholders (slightly different sizes, due to quilt math).

It is a great way to use up small pieces, units or even entire blocks at the end of a quilt.

At the guild gift store at our last show, I bought a cute mug with a mug rug to go with it. I just loved the idea, so I made a couple of mats and found mugs to go with them. I put them out for sale at the Fall Fiber Faire at our local quilt shop last fall, and sold all but one.

This one was the first thing sold that day. The mug is huge, and really cute.

When we left off on Tuesday, both sides of the purse had pockets and handles attached. Today, I’ll show you the finishing.

Next is to put in the zipper. I place the zipper right sides together at the top of one side of the purse. Stitch at about 1/4-inch seam allowance. Stop when the pull is reached, lift the presser foot and move the pull out of the way, past the point of the needle. Then lower the foot again, and continue stitching to the end.

Fold over the zipper to the wrong side, pushing the seam allowance ...

After receiving a mystery box with some fun projects, I decided I didn’t want to do the one for the lemon print fabric on the left and the zipper with the lemon slice pull. I found another lemon print at my local quilt shop, and bought a half yard to make a purse. The lemon slice print is about 1/3 of a yard. The zipper is 16 inches long.

If you’d like to make a purse with this pattern, here’s the supply list –
1/2 yard print for outside of bag
1/2-yard of lining fabric ...

It’s time to report our monthly progress on our fabric in and out. The idea is awareness, and no judgement when the sale table calls, an adorable print shows up in the quilt shop, or retail therapy is needed. The garden is coming more alive with more daffodils making an appearance. I don’t have as many as I usually do, so I have to be happy with what does bloom. These are yellow cups and petals, such a delicate color. But they got a little bedraggled in the wind that has been blowing lately.

The redbud will be in full bloom soon.

On the feeder, the goldfinches are almost fully changed into their summer frocks of bright yellow. The bluebird on the back of the feeder is the one using the birdhouse.

Spring Intensives are coming up in May. What are Intensives? At the school where I teach, the week before Christmas and the last week of school in the Spring, students don’t attend regular classes. (Honestly, what really gets done in classes at that time?) Rather, each student selects from a menu of classes and attends that one course for the entire week.
