Learn the quilt as you go technique with this flag pillow tutorial. Great for the 4th of July or summer decoration.
This design has been stewing for a bit. I finally snuck in a few sewing minutes and put it together. Lately I have been having a lot of fun with the quilt as you go method.
After sketching a few things, I figured out how to make the flag layout work…… so happy with how it turned out!
I am not one to dec my whole house with holiday stuff, but it’s been awhile since I’ve had ...

A block echoing one that was in the quilt plus some flying geese blocks around two of the sides makes a nice pattern. The back is an envelope style that has an opening that you can easily slip in a pillow form.

read moreIt was a busy week with lots of activities happening, but not a lot of time for sewing. I managed to make some progress on my cross stitch project, adding more trees, border stitches and starting the snow at the bottom of this section. I'm hoping to finish the mushrooms in the forest this coming week and move on to the next part.

I love to make quilts, sew quilts, cut quilts, dream quilts. However, I spend time and energy watercolor painting. It is a different thinking kind of art than quilting. You may have an idea, and sketches, but you don't know how it will go or where it go. All kinds of surprises and accidents of timing. I don't show my work, but just keep painting. I decided this year, I will put more paintings on this blog because the thought of making a second blog gives me the heebie jeebies. I paint because of color, value and texture ...
read moreI took some days finishing several small items sitting on the table and taking up space.
These green pieces were scraps left from RSC March - the GREEN month - after I finished the green Churn Dash quilt. All batik, except the green Moda Marbles backing. These two small table toppers are for the kitchen; top of microwave oven and cupboard.
I'm struggling a bit to think clearly. Benadryl does wonders for allergies, but it also creates a lot of brain fog. I think the cats, Grad Girls and my mom's, finally got to me yesterday. Actually it's probably mostly due to my mom's cat. He decided to sleep next to my head Tuesday night. Grad Girl and I drove back down to my mother's on Tuesday because it would cut 2.5 hours off GG's trip back to college and I needed to pick up some things that wouldn't fit in the car ...
read moreI hope you have all had Happy Holidays! Despite coming down with Covid for the first time (pretty sure my granddaughter brought it to her dad, then me, then her mom) we went to my folks--barely making they cut off for quarantine. The kids have had it before. Kathy somehow did not get it--despite being exposed to her and to me all week. I took Paxlovid since I am immuno-compromised. I actually felt better than normal from the time I was exposed until the time the Paxlovid ended. This seems to happen to me...my fatigue lifts decently when my ...

I've not written a PHD post in four months because there really wasn't anything to post about. There was pretty much no stitching from June till the end of August. Over the last month or so, I've finished a couple of new projects and made a bit of progress on my 2022 UFO list. My report is not stellar, but it could certainly be worse.
I finished two of three new starts. That's probably my biggest achievement from the last few months.
Grad Girl asked me to make pillows from two of her embroidery projects.

The last stitching stuff post was back in June, 14 weeks ago. I really didn't intend for my break to last that long, especially not the break from my sewing room. It's been a struggle to get back into my habit of heading to the sewing room for at least 15 minutes every day so my metrics really do look sad.
- 15 minute days/week = 3/7 days
- 15 minute days/June = 9/30 days
- 15 minute days/July = 0/31 days
- 15 minute days/Aug = 10/31 days
- 15 minute days/Sept = 9/24 days

Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing a fun Quilted Pillow Sham as part of my monthly small project series. This pillow sham front and back was pieced from a mix of fat quarters and is a terrific stash or scrappy project. Additionally, you’ll find some of my other favorite pillow sham projects to make. You can […]

read moreThis started out to be a quilt, but I realized it didn't have what it takes to be made into a quilt, but it did make a great Art pillow.
When it was turned into a perfectly stuffed pillow it became a Gold Medalist.
This Art pillow used some unique fabrics I created by dying, pressing and slashing.
Olympic Quilt 5 came out of the ice dyed reject pile and was quilted in a grid to make the save.
I started decorating around the house, earlier this month, by hanging the "Stitch Pink Christmas" (my version made up in traditional Christmas fabrics) quilt out on the porch. I finished the quilting on this one in January, it's the first time it's been hung! I love it! From there on it was full speed ahead with the decorations, inside and out. I got the Christmas dishes placed in the kitchen
