January went mostly as planned.
My OMG was to finish the challenge quilt, Winter Tree. I posted details about it here and here.

That project was also on my PhD list.

I’ve now moved on to another project on that list, although I don’t expect to finish it in February.
I’m linking to Stories from the Sewing Room, where you can see what everyone else is creating.

I finished Winter Tree, my art quilt group’s January challenge.

I talked about the idea and the construction in the last two posts. From there, I added beads to suggest snowflakes and used a dark binding as a frame. I also added a fence made from railroad yarn that I painted white and then gray. The original yarn was too bright and didn’t fit the color scheme. The yarn is so delicate I hand stitched it down. The quilt is about 11″ x 13”.
This quilt was my January OMG and the first ...
read moreGood morning, my friends. We had an easy-going day yesterday. I did three loads of wash...wash loads are small in our washer/dryer combo, and so three loads are required to do the work of two. Aside from that, we got out for a walk around the park, and then sat and relaxed for most of the day.
First thing, I spent a little extra time on my slow-stitching. I'd missed a couple of days, and so I wanted to stitch a little longer. That allowed me to finish the second embroidered section for Block 10 of the ...

I’m not one to recap the prior year, but I did finish more projects than I expected. Now I’m ready to look forward.
For my own benefit, I’m taking stock of what is in process and what has been neglected. If you don’t know where you’ve been, how do you know where you’re going? That, and a year from now I won’t remember where I started.

read moreGood morning, my friends. It was another busy day yesterday. I got a late start after sleeping in later than usual, but I still managed to cross off the things on my list. I wanted to get busy with the Peppermint Bark before I did anything else. It's very easy to make. The hardest part of the whole thing is getting the dratted paper off the candy canes. Mike helped with that. When it was finished, it looked like this.

Good morning, my friends. Oh my...it is so dark outside. We're expecting lots of rain over the next several days. There could be around 4 inches in our area with minor flooding concerns in some places. Here on our hill, we're not at all worried about flooding. Sadly, however, Mike discovered the drainage pipes leading away from our downspouts are clogged with pine needles that cannot be dislodged with any equipment we have. We're going to have to call a plumber to snake those out. That should be a nice tidy plumbing bill. When it comes ...

read moreGood morning, my friends. The title of this post probably sounds more ominous than it should. I really only mean it's the beginning of the end of the year. December 1st. It's all downhill from here. When we reach the bottom, it'll be 2026. To this blogger born in the 1950's it has me thinking I've entered some kind of futuristic sci-fi novel. The good news is that I'm the one writing the story...for now, at least.

read moreGood morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday. During the presidential campaign, I was amused when Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania said, "My team is guided by three letters every single day: G-S-D." And, if you missed that, he spelled it out..."Getting sh*t done." When I can cross everything off a day's to-do list, I announce it to Mike: "I got sh*t done today." Admittedly, I didn't start sewing together the Merry, Merry Snowmen yesterday, but I got a lot of other stuff done.
First, I finished off My Embroidered Garden.
