Good morning, my friends. How's everyone doing? Things are pretty slow around here. We're doing our grocery shopping today, and I'm getting a pedicure tomorrow. The energy level is going to need to pick up some. I was all set to take a walk on the treadmill yesterday, but I was discouraged when the TV wouldn't play my latest Ken Burns documentary...The West. And, obviously, I can't walk on the treadmill if I can't watch television at the same time, so what's a person to do? Well, I vacuumed and dusted. I ...

read moreGood morning, my friends. It's a frosty and cold morning here at the Three Cats Ranch. Freezing fog was in the forecast, and that's exactly what we got. We still have patches of snow left from last week. Now, everything is coated with a slippery sheen. I don't know about you, but I'm staying inside today. The last thing I need is to slip and fall and break another bone.
Let's talk about yesterday, shall we? With Mike's help, the Great Outdoors quilt was snipped and washed. I'm really happy with how this ...

read moreGood morning, my friends. Everyone remain calm. There's no reason for you to be scared. As for me, yesterday's sewing could best be described in a single word: "Gulp." I'll tell you about that in just a minute, but let's back up a few steps. When I left you yesterday, we were contemplating the trip up our steep snow-covered driveway to the main road. Could we do it? And let me just skip to the exciting conclusion: YES!!! Only, just hold the celebration because it only means we're going grocery shopping. Sigh. We encountered nothing ...

read moreGood morning, my friends, and welcome to February. I'll tell you about yesterday's sewing toward the end of this post, but first...the day has arrived to reveal the "Mosaic" project for The Endeavourers art quilt group. I'm happy to say the group will be continuing on for at least another year. "Mosaic" was the last prompt selected, but we have a whole new raft of prompts to start off our new art quilty year.
For this project, I wanted to try a technique from this book by Timna Tarr. She has a page on Facebook, and ...

read moreGood morning, my friends. Isn't is great when the holidays are over? I like spending time with family and eating good food as much as the next person, but geez. I always reach January 2nd feeling as if I'm on holiday overload. I'll be glad to have the roads and stores less busy, and I'll be glad not to be making preparations for the next celebratory thing. Of course, there's lots to do between now and then, but I know my thoughts are going to be turning toward our trip to Alaska in May. Our ...

read moreGood morning, my friends, and welcome to December. It's a frosty and chilly morning here at the Three Cats Ranch. I imagine that will come as no surprise to those of you in the Midwest and the Northeast. You guys are probably digging out this morning. So sorry. I told this story to a Facebook friend yesterday: I once took a chemistry lab class in college. At one point during a day’s class period, we heard the unmistakable sound of a flask breaking and someone’s experiment results literally going down the drain. From the back corner of ...

read moreMy OMG for the month was finishing Remember Me, a quilt started while I was in the Scraps to Squares quilt group back in 2006. Members made me blocks out of 1930s reproduction fabrics, block design of their choice.

I ended up with an odd number of blocks, which I sewed into rows sometime after that. I don’t remember what year.

Then it aged for quite a while. I sewed the rows together and added the borders a couple years ago. I’ve quilted on it off and on ever since.

I’m very happy to have it finished ...
read moreGood morning, my friends. It's looking like rain for the next week or so. There's going to be lots of sewing time, I'm afraid. I have a couple of outings planned for the coming week. Mainly, I'll be hanging out in the sewing room with the kitties.
Yesterday, I finished up the 7th of seven small stitcheries for the Girls' Getaway quilt.

Yesterday, I finished up the 7th of seven small stitcheries for the Girls' Getaway quilt.
No change in the numbers.
I finished quilting and trimming Remember Me.

Next week I’ll count the fabric out. I may not have all the binding stitched down, but it should be attached.
I made a lot of progress on the second sock this week too. Looks like I’ll finish multiple projects at once. How does that happen all the time?

Fabric In: 16.5 yards
Fabric out: 22.125 yards
Net Fabric Used: 5.625 yards
How did you do this week?

I framed Peace on Earth last month and started nothing. It wasn’t on the October list, but I’m good with that. November will result in finishes, which means different projects on the Short List.
I began the Short List many years ago to create short-term goals and a way to focus. I change things up as my interests change.
Project 1 (Crochet): I finished the first sock and started the second. This project will likely finish ...
read moreGood morning, my friends. It looks as if our epic rain storm has rained itself out. It rained almost the entire live-long day yesterday. It was very discouraging for kitties who desperately wanted to go outside. Instead, they helped mightily in the sewing room, as you're just about to see.
The blocks I'd already given borders were spread out on my design floor. (I used to have a design wall, but I never used it. The floor works better for me.)
