My Day on the OLFA & Aurifil Slice and Stitch challenge! from Pat Sloan's Blog

Pat sloan holding pillow 2

What an exciting day it was when I got the invite to do one of the OLFA/Aurifil Slice and stitch Challenges!

If we are just meeting, I’m Author and Quilt Designer Pat Sloan. My projects are always fun and easy to do, and I toss in a bit of my simple applique every so often. I’ve been using OLFA products since I started to quilt. I believed my beginning quilt teacher when she said to buy the best, so I did!

Weekend Work from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

This old hand-crank
pump was the impetus.
Richard and I have been busy in the yard. He wanted a water feature in the back yard to entice the birds. More birds. Apparently there aren't enough.

So what the heck. I made it quite clear that I am not willing to pull grass in a flower bed that we had abandoned years ago.

Richard: But everyone can see it (the abandoned flower bed) from the patio.
Me: Why does that matter? Look at the yucky mess the birds made ON the patio.  (They throw seed on the bricks. Some they ...

bits and more bits . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

It's been a lovely weekend so far.  Todd surprised me with a "gourmet dining experience" on Valentine's Day.
It was a privately catered event and the food was excellent!  The chef classified his style as 'sophisticated southern.' We were served a four course meal which included a deconstructed Southern Greek salad, seared scallops, braised short ribs, and for dessert . . .
Red velvet cake with a cheesecake center, topped with white chocolate ganache.  YUM!

Backing up a bit, I spent Thursday evening with the grandgirls and gifted them with their Valentines.
Edith was particularly enthralled with hers and went through ...

heartily stitching along . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I've had to work all four (10-hour) days this week.  It's been long!  LOL!

I made just a little progress on my Love Sampler project.  It's really so sweet to stitch on . . .
But not as much progress as I had planned. Scrolling through Instagram on Sunday, I stumbled upon a Blackwork SAL hosted by Peppermint Purple, and I chased that squirrel down.  I have been fascinated by blackwork for some time, but hadn't ever tried it.  This seemed to be the perfect opportunity to give it a go.
At first I though starting six weeks behind ...

Our secret conversation from Quilting with Kimberly

Mom and me, shortly before she passed away in 2016.

My Mom and I share a little secret. We have little “meetings of the minds” where we share heart-to-heart communication on a regular basis. Considering she passed away more than four years ago, you might think I’m a bit quirky to make such a statement. But she and I communicate through our secret, shared language of needlework. Even now, all these years since she left this earth, we send each other nudges of love.

I’m a quilter. Mom was a cross-stitcher. And she was positively brilliant at cross-stitch ...

Sewing Projects for a Full Heart (and Bobbin)! from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

When someone is covered in a cozy, warm quilt, they are reminded that someone sat at a sewing machine for hours, carefully piecing and stitching, with them in mind. A handmade table runner sitting on the family dining table shows a loving home to all who feast there. To be gifted a wall hanging is a reminder that they are loved by its maker.

Valentine’s day is one of the best holidays to make for because it’s about love and we LOVE to make! Here are some sweet as pie project ideas:
