Hi everyone! I am extremely excited. There are so many new things happening all at once that I'm not sure which way to turn. But in a good way, you know?

For one, there's my booth at Griffin's Antiques and Main St. Market. It's sort of an antiques store, flea market, artist market and cafe all rolled into one huge building. Baton Rouge before the storm from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I needed to drop off some quilts to a CFAL member in Baton Rouge for an upcoming show. We knew that Hurricane Delta would be coming ashore on Friday and we had plans to be in Jackson, MS. So we combined the two plans and hit the road running: drop off quilts in BR, then beat it to Jackson.

We were to spend the night and go to the Mississippi Museum of Art. Then race back to Evergreen ahead of the storm. Baton Rouge happened. Jackson did not.

Cotton Quilters' Guild meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

The Cotton Quilters met on our regular first Monday of the month. Since it's October, president Margaret Ducote asked that everyone bring in their fall/Halloween themed quilts. Apparently I'm one in the minority since I have only one of those made years ago. Here are a few of them:

"The Retreat" ~~ Finished!! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Way back in July of 2019, I attended a quilt retreat in Baton Rouge with other members of the BRMQG. After I got home, I finished up the top and added it to the bin. A couple of weeks ago I dug through the bin and chose this top to quilt.

A little blue thread, feathers in the border, and some improv quilting.

Last week Richard's aunt passed away. She and his mom were quite close, so we offered to take her to the services in Ville Platte, about 45 minutes' drive. The burial was in Prairie Rhonde, a place rather than a town, per se. I sat in the back seat, taking pictures because it's almost impossible to hear a conversation happening in the front seat. (That's a big-truck problem.) Anyway, I discovered both a grain mill and a wonderful old red barn.

In September of 2015 I wrote this SQI about using text in quilts. At the time I was collecting fabric with words, which was becoming an easier goal anytime I walked into a quilt shop. Hello Weekly! Do you remember when I wrote last week that I really wanted to paint a mason jar? Well, I did. It's not so much fun, actually.

I painted a few in fall colors. Then distressed them. Then put a sealant on them. The paint still wants to scratch off. I had conned Rich into making some crates for them, so they are going in my little shop at Griffin's, but I don't know about this painted glass business.

Improv on Point ~~ finished! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

This quilt is already one of my favorites. It was a struggle for a while, but once it started coming together, I fell in love.

Turns out, all it wanted was to be turned on-point, which made it a little more difficult to piece together.

I made large chunks of red pieces and larger chunks of neutral/brown/gold with a little red mixed in and built most of the chunks using a modified log cabin technique.

Since the front is all improv, the back should be. Right? So it is. I used more of the linen, but didn't ...

ROAR! The Dinosaur ~~ a finish! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

"ROAR! The Dinosaur" is a recent finish that I have not written about because, frankly, it's been too hot to go outside for more than a few minutes. I won't even attempt to describe the mosquito problems. Let's just say I'm thrilled to have cooler weather. It's amazing that temperatures in the 80s is miserably hot in May, but in September the 80s are remarkably cool.

Griffins Antiques and Main Street Market from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I may have mentioned that I've decided to join lots of friends in a new adventure. There's an old antique store in Bunkie and a young family has purchased the building to turn into an artists/crafts market. I bought the smallest size available and will attempt to sell some of my work. I'm committed to four months of rent, so that means through Christmas. Hopefully, sales will pay the rent.

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: SUNRISE / SUNSET from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Sunrises and sunsets, when I get to see them in person, remind me of the beauty of individuality. Every one is stunningly beautiful and stunningly different. Here in Louisiana, we are all about hot coffee and ice tea. Community Coffee is the ONLY one we drink here in Avoyelles Parish--it's a Louisiana product, after all.

However, there are others. Cafe du Monde, for example from the famous NOLA French Quarter market. And then Mello Joy coffee which you can easily find in the Lafayette area.

As far as tea goes, there's only one that's passable in the Marcotte clan--Lipton. It has to be sweet, ice cold and served with a real glass (made of glass as opposed to plastic) filled with ice. Yeah ...

It's a CQG Sew Day! Let's Play! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

The CQG had a sew day on the 17th of this month. Eight or ten people showed up with different projects to work on. I even brought Marley and "her" machine since she had the day off from school.

Everyone thought it was just the best thing to see a young one enjoying sewing. She worked on a simple one patch baby quilt to donate to the CQG to be sold at our next quilt show. The plan is to have several small quilts, donated by members, that will sell and all profits will go to CQG to fund some ...

The end of this foolishness from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Update: Hurricane Laura is expected to arrive on the heel of our Louisiana boot within the next few hours. Though it is unlikely to affect us, we are concerned about friends who live in the Lake Charles area and family in the Lafayette area. Please pray for the Texans and Louisianans who will be affected by this cat 4 hurricane.

Remember when I wrote about the hideous quilt on the design wall?
