When Lynnleigh was born, eight short years ago, I was required to wear a mask for our first meeting. I had a bad cold at the time but that wasn't going to keep me from holding our new granddaughter; oh, no! Little did I know then that mask-wearing would ever become the norm! We were eager to recreate this iconic moment today. Happy birthday, Lynnleigh; you've made these past eight years a joy (

How can ten years seemingly pass by in a blink while fifty one hours spent in a home without electricity drags on for what feels like forever? Someone needs to help me understand that mystery. Yesterday this young man achieved double digit status! We were on hand, along with his other grandparents, to help him celebrate this big milestone

read moreThe last birthday celebration for my 75th birthday (how old?) has finally come to an end, with a family lunch on Saturday. Just a small get-together as sadly my son Michael was unable to attend. Unfortunately neither could my older sister Kathleen, who was not well, and my niece and her daughter her were to bring her down from Hawkes Bay. Never mind, it was great to have the others there for the day.
We were lunching at local café Murrayfield. Daughter Nicky, hubby Robert and grand-daughters Emma and Megan. Together with my younger sister Karla and her friend Murray ...
read moreThe year has rolled around and it’s my birthday again. This weekend was spent with our caravan club buddies at Kaitoke Regional Park in Upper Hutt. Instead of birthday cake we supplied some lovely light sponges with fresh cream and jam for afternoon tea on Friday.
Happy Birthday to me
It was a long three day weekend and the park was full to bursting with hoards of happy campers. Some in caravans and campervans like us, and lots of people in tents too. The area is classified as a rain forest and the hills are covered in beautiful native ...
read moreI blame my daughter Nicky – she is a great believer in having a month of birthday celebrations, rather than just celebrate on the actual day. I’m not quite as bad as that, although so far I have had two birthday get-togethers. Earlier last week two friends and I went out to a local café for lunch, and very nice it was too, some nice “girl time” together.
Then on Friday we met up with a group of friends. As a group we have been meeting up monthly for absolutely ages, about 30 years, believe it or not, and each ...

Perhaps you recall the pair of hand knitted blue socks I completed recently? Although these socks took me forever to knit, it didn’t take me too long at all to finish this “baby beanie” with the little bit of wool left over. And that didn’t take me very long at all! This will go in the bag for the next time I make a donation to Foster Hope charity.
Baby blue beanie
Another recent finish was a little baby bunny toy. However, I had trouble working out the instructions for the head and ears, so had to fudge ...
read moreRed is the colour for Rainbow Scrap Challenge stitching this month, so I decided to start off my RSC sewing with a cat block first. I laid them on the bed and auditioned some red fabrics. After all, red comes in all sorts of shades, bright red, orange/red, pinky/red so I wanted to see which shade would work best with the existing blocks. Gemma decided to come and help out too, as she likes to do. She wasn’t really much help at all, she was much more interested in keeping up with her grooming routine.
Gemma and ...

How many people want to celebrate their birthdays? I do!! It's not a big birthday this year, but I'm just glad that I'm around one more year and I expect to celebrate many more birthdays. My grandfather lived to 100, and we seem to have great longevity in our family genes. That's my plan as well. So, no - you don't need to know how old I am. You just need to know that I'm still enjoying each and every day, and I can't wait to have some fun today.
Even my Fitbit knows ...
What a fun weekend we had! Lucy Ann spent a few nights here with Nana and PawPaw, she was eager to complete the sewing portion of her quilt top from a few weeks ago; we had big plans to tie-dye the back for that quilt as well. In anticipation of this activity I ordered a tie-dyeing kit from Dharma Trading Co; it included everything needed for good results at home, this was a first time experience

read moreThe last few days have been a bit of a mixed bag. Sadly on Friday we had a family funeral to attend as Robin’s cousin Steve had passed away. The day was wet and wild, and we drove up to Palmerston North to attend the church. Reflecting in the car that as the aunts and uncles have now all passed on, sadly the cousins are the older generation. Quite a sobering thought. With our part of the country being in “Level 2”, gatherings are capped at 100 people. Therefore, the family wanted to know who was likely to attend ...
read moreAfter a period of uncertainty because of new Covid cases in Auckland, we were pleased that our family celebrations went ahead on Saturday. Leaving Gemma in charge of the caravan at Takapau, we drove up to Napier to meet up for the family lunch. Luckily, I had remembered to take the birthday cushion with me – wouldn’t it be terrible if I had left it at home? Birthday girl Kate had asked for a patchwork cushion in blue, and mentioned she rather liked hearts. So… blue hearts it was, luckily I made it in plenty of time, so I wasn ...
