splashing into autumn . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Hey hey!  Just checking in before we head into the weekend.  We enjoyed a lovely, beautiful day on the lake on Monday.  The weather couldn't have been more cooperative.  We're at that time of the year where sometimes the water, at 85 degrees, is warmer than the air temp!
That means we spend LOTS of time in the water (because it's too cold to come out)!  The girls had a blast splashing and swimming. Edith even decided it was her day to jump off the boat into the water, multiple times.  She was a champ!  But we ...

It's my BIRTHDAY!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

How many people want to celebrate their birthdays? I do!! It's not a big birthday this year, but I'm just glad that I'm around one more year and I expect to celebrate many more birthdays. My grandfather lived to 100, and we seem to have great longevity in our family genes. That's my plan as well. So, no - you don't need to know how old I am. You just need to know that I'm still enjoying each and every day, and I can't wait to have some fun today.

Even my Fitbit knows ...

Tie-Dyeing Fun and a Milestone! from From the Strawberry Patch...

What a fun weekend we had! Lucy Ann spent a few nights here with Nana and PawPaw, she was eager to complete the sewing portion of her quilt top from a few weeks ago; we had big plans to tie-dye the back for that quilt as well. In anticipation of this activity I ordered a tie-dyeing kit from Dharma Trading Co; it included everything needed for good results at home, this was a first time experience

What I’ve been up to from Romany Quilting

The last few days have been a bit of a mixed bag.  Sadly on Friday we had a family funeral to attend as  Robin’s cousin Steve had passed away.  The day was wet and wild, and we drove up to Palmerston North to attend the church.  Reflecting in the car that as the aunts and uncles have now all passed on, sadly the cousins are the older generation.   Quite a sobering thought.  With our part of the country being in “Level 2”, gatherings are capped at 100 people.  Therefore, the family  wanted to know who was likely to attend ...

21st Birthday Cushion from Romany Quilting

After a period of uncertainty because of new Covid cases in Auckland, we were pleased that our family celebrations went ahead on Saturday.  Leaving Gemma in charge of the caravan at Takapau, we drove up to Napier to meet up for the family lunch.  Luckily, I had remembered to take the birthday cushion with me – wouldn’t it be terrible if I had left it at home?  Birthday girl Kate had asked for a patchwork cushion in blue, and mentioned she rather liked hearts.  So… blue hearts it was, luckily I made it in plenty of time, so I wasn ...

New Month, New Quiltmaker from From the Strawberry Patch...

Even though it seems as though each day slips silently into the next during these crazy days of the "new normal" (whatever that is), time really is moving forward and we've slipped into August already! Our daughter and oldest granddaughter spent a few days visiting from the Capital City. Now that Lucy Ann has completed third grade, it's high time for her to learn and utilize machine skills  for

Donation Time again, and a Birthday from Romany Quilting

It was time to do another donation drop off to Foster Hope, the charity who strives to make things easier for children in care.   My ‘just finished” crazy cat draw string bag was added to the other bags previously made.  These are used as toilet bags or to hold pens, pencils or other treasures.  I like to make some for boys as well, and had stitched a couple in plaid fabrics.  Also included were four little baby hats I had recently finished.

Quilt Retreat from Mama Spark's World

Jack and I got all packed up for our "Up North" retreat. He was pretty excited to go even thought it was just going to be me and my SIL. I did not take many pictures this time though We went to Seven Sisters quilt shop and I fell in love with this pixilated map of Michigan I bought the pattern. I am hoping to make this for our camper. This weekend we called the Baby Edition of

En Garde! from Appalachian Quilts

While fencing (which we will now refer to as sword fighting, because it just sounds way cooler) actually is believed to trace it's roots back to Spain in the 12th century, France has actually dominated the sport for hundreds of years.  En Garde signals to your opponent to be ready - or as we like to say when we play "ready or not, here I come".

We have a grandson who is obsessed with all things 'manly'.  He loves power tools, tractors....and swords.  His birthday is this month, so Hubs thought it would be a good idea to make ...

Which Way Now? from From the Strawberry Patch...

Which Way Now? ~ 57" X 57" Here's my contribution to the growing library of Quarantine Quilts available. "Which Way Now?" grew from my desire to stick to my guiding word for 2020: "Vision" and that is defined, for me, as having the clarity to use up what I have accumulated right here at home. Scraps from leftover projects are in plentiful supply, available resources weren't a problem. The

Celebrating Five Years—With a Giveaway! from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

About a week ago, Kara and I (Teri) celebrated the fifth birthday of our small creative company, Through the Needle's Eye. And by celebrating, I mean we were busy working on new patterns and designs, because that's what we do!

Since our trip to Williamsburg and Kara's return to Germany, we have both been working to complete our fourth blocks of the Woodland Reverie quilt. We are itching to get to our next blocks, but a few other projects are taking precedence.

Weekly update: a milestone birthday, but not much progress from With Strings Attached

Look who had a milestone birthday on Saturday!  I put out a call on Facebook and via email for in-the-mail birthday cards with the hope that there would be 80.  They've been coming for ten days, up to 130 as of this writing -- from as close as next door and across the street to Australia, Ireland (in Gaelic), and England.  There was a friend from his kindergarten days and colleagues from his library days. The youngest was three and the oldest was, well, decades older. Rotarians, Methodists, AAUWs, P.E.O.s, librarians, and a host of other friends ...

A Finish and Another Sew-Along from From the Strawberry Patch...

This finish has been a long time in the making. This small quilt is the result of the Temecula Quilt Co. 2015 Summer Sampler Sew-Along. I was diligent (in the beginning) about keeping up with the blocks as posted on their blog.  I decided to do mine using the black and white scraps (generously sized leftovers!) that I fell heir to after my mother finished her own black and white quilt.  She

Family, Holiday and a little stitching from Romany Quilting

Just in case you are wondering, yes, we are still on holiday.  During our time in Hawkes Bay we called in to see my sister Kathleen and her husband Dennis, who live in Hastings.

Kathleen with me

There were two “new to us” places to stay at while we traveled slowly southwards.  Guess it’s no coincidence that they were both by breweries!  The first was GodsOwn Brewery – Godfrey the brewer was originally from South Africa, married to Kiwi wife Rachel, and they have realised their dream of brewing craft beers on their own piece of rural paradise.  Of course ...

Stitching Up A Storm from From the Strawberry Patch...

Scrappy Shining Stars 65" X 83" Remember all those piles of scraps that I have cut? Well, they're being used. I am holding fast to my guiding word for the year: VISION. I have a goal of making up stacks of scrap quilts in 2020 using what is right under my nose. Here's my first idea. This one will utilize 3.5" squares  in  9" 9-patches combining with 4-patches (2" UF squares for a 3" finished
