Birthday Cake and lots of it! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

So when I created a folder for the pictures today, it hit me. Where did August go?? Tomorrow is the last day of this month, and it literally flew by. How the heck did that happen?

I must confess that I was a bit of a slug yesterday. I had a big nap - too much celebrating or just getting old? A bit of both, but those late nights just don't sit well with me, and if I don't sleep well on top of that? Oh boy!

And I don't know what the heck is happening to me ...

Sisters to the rescue from Sew Sunshine

I have been feeling like I am not getting much done these days. I get a spurt to finish a UFO and then I think I am going to ride the wave of accomplishment and then....nada! I am working on a couple slow big stitch pieces and they are sloooooow going.haha.
I was feeling the need to accomplish something for good so I arranged a sisters gathering around one sisters birthday. 4 of us got together with machines in tow and put together the blocks I had buried a while back.

I had 3 kits from Quilts for ...

Birthdays are the best! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

WOW --- It's my BIRTHDAY today! It's not a big birthday, but then every birthday should be considered a big birthday. With what happens to us each year, I sometimes think it's a miracle that we have lived one more year!

So much has happened between this time last year. More lock-downs, lots of walking, LOTS of snacks, lots of new friends, lots of sewing. Well, it's been a super year, and I thank all of you for helping make my year such fun.

I'm also one year older, so supposedly I'm that much smarter ...

Gemma, Phillip and Me from Romany Quilting

It’s hard to believe that our little Gemma turned three over the weekend.  No, we didn’t bake a cake, but she had her favourite “Jimbos” meat for dinner that night.

P1020218

Birman cats are very playful, and she has been spending time with her “knitting”  a length of leftover yarn from a project.  She carries it around in her mouth, lays on her back and attacks with her feet, having a fine old time.

I’ve just finished making her a belated birthday gift, aa little grey mouse.  This is obviously related to “The ...

Officially An Old Broad! from caledonia quilter

First, here is the little Superbowl Sunday quilt, completely finished.

It's so pretty, thanks to the Moda Charm Square pack.
I did learn a valuable lesson, though.  Don't write out a quilt label while you are messaging with the Beach Girls about March appointments for haircuts.  You WILL put the wrong date on the label.

I figured it was close enough that I was not writing out another one.

BIRTHDAY!!!

In the middle of a pandemic, I managed to have my 65th birthday yesterday.  Yay me!!

As I have been saying for months, YES, I had Bailey's ...

late out of the gate . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

So.  Obviously my resolution for 2021 wasn't to spend more time on the blog.  Ha!

In fact, I didn't make resolutions (I haven't done that for the past several years, actually).  I took stock of 2020 (for what it's worth, am I right?), and instead made a couple of goals. Really, I just made a goal.  I finished my complete read of the Bible on December 24, but decided it was a lot of reading (the Bible in a year) without a lot of study.  So this year I decided to start over again, read just ...

Then and Now from From the Strawberry Patch...

When Lynnleigh was born, eight short years ago, I was required to wear a mask for our first meeting. I had a bad cold at the time but that wasn't going to keep me from holding our new granddaughter; oh, no! Little did I know then that mask-wearing would ever become the norm! We were eager to recreate this iconic moment today. Happy birthday, Lynnleigh; you've made these past eight years a joy (

Double Digits from From the Strawberry Patch...

There's something quite curious about the passage of time. How can ten years seemingly pass by in a blink while fifty one hours spent in a home without electricity drags on for what feels like forever? Someone needs to help me understand that mystery. Yesterday this young man achieved double digit status! We were on hand, along with his other grandparents, to help him celebrate this big milestone

The Last Hurrah from Romany Quilting

The last birthday celebration for my 75th birthday (how old?) has finally come to an end, with a family lunch on Saturday.   Just a small get-together as sadly my son Michael was unable to attend.  Unfortunately neither could my older sister Kathleen, who was not well, and my niece and her daughter her were to bring her down from Hawkes Bay.  Never mind, it was great to have the others there for the day.

We were lunching at local café Murrayfield.  Daughter Nicky, hubby Robert and grand-daughters Emma and Megan.  Together with my younger sister Karla and her friend Murray ...

rabbit, rabbit . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

And just like that, it's November.  WOW!

Thursday evening after work I headed to visit the grandgirls and spend the night.  On Friday we made our annual visit to Tate Farms . . .
It was hard to get a photo of everyone together!  We were full out in motion for our three hours there! But it was a fun day.  :)

Saturday was bright and beautiful!  What a fabulous day for Halloween ... and June Madelyn's birthday!
We got to facetime with her and sing her "Happy Birthday" and watch her open her presents!  June is eight!  I miss them all SO ...

It’s my Birthday from Romany Quilting

The year has rolled around and it’s my birthday again.  This weekend was spent with our caravan club buddies at Kaitoke   Regional Park in Upper Hutt.  Instead of birthday cake we supplied some lovely light sponges with fresh cream and jam for afternoon tea on Friday.

Happy Birthday to me

It was a long three day weekend and the park was full to bursting with hoards of happy campers.  Some in caravans and campervans like us, and lots of people in tents too.  The area is classified as a rain forest and the hills are covered in beautiful native ...

Birthday Month from Romany Quilting

I blame my daughter Nicky – she is a great believer in having a month of birthday celebrations, rather than just celebrate on the actual day.  I’m not quite as bad as that, although so far I have had two birthday get-togethers.  Earlier last week  two friends and I went out to a local café for lunch, and very nice it was too, some nice “girl time” together.

Then on Friday we met up with a group of friends.  As a group we have been meeting up monthly for absolutely ages, about 30 years, believe it or not, and each ...

birthday weekend . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

It was a pretty crazy week at work, getting ready for our big annual meeting next week.  But that didn't stop me from getting some evening stitch time in . . .
Work progresses on this sweet little "Give Thanks" stitchery. It's nice to have something relaxing to look forward to at the end of the day!

I came home to some sweet snail mail happies this week, too.  This was a win from Life in Pieces as she celebrated her 13th blogiversary!
Isn't that fun?!? I love the stiletto! ♥

And this was an Instagram win from Kathy Schmitz!

weekend busy happies . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I'm going to tell you a true story . . .

I read a quote that caught my attention: "The secret to having everything, is believing you already do."

Immediately I thought of my current fabric stash and felt a little convicted. Then this verse of scripture popped into my head:  "Lord I believe; help my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24)

Then I ordered this . . .
To go with this . . .
Which it does, and very nicely, I might add.  The end.  No names were changed to protect the not-so-innocent.

Where do I go from that? It's been a very busy weekend! Of course ...

A little slow Knitting from Romany Quilting

Perhaps you recall the pair of hand knitted blue socks I completed recently?  Although these socks took me forever to knit, it didn’t take me too long at all to finish this “baby beanie” with the little bit of wool left over.  And that didn’t take me very long at all!  This will go in the bag for the next time I make a donation to Foster Hope charity.

Red Colourpoint Cat from Romany Quilting

Red is the colour for Rainbow Scrap Challenge stitching this month, so I decided to start off my RSC sewing with a cat block first.  I laid them on the bed and auditioned some red fabrics.  After all, red comes in all sorts of shades, bright red, orange/red, pinky/red so I wanted to see which shade would work best with the existing blocks.  Gemma decided to come and help out too, as she likes to do.  She wasn’t really much help at all, she was much more interested in keeping up with her grooming routine.
