Feeling Peachy - Mica in Island Batik Fabrics from Sew Preeti Quilts

I wanted to make at least one quilt using Island Batik Fabrics, for the Pantone Quilt Challenge 2024.

There are so many beautiful peachy hues to choose from.

Island Batik Fabrics

Cantaloupe (Island Batik Basic) from the Opulent Oranges was the closest match for Peach Fuzz.

Cantaloupe

Carrot

So many ideas and so little time. I wanted to create something simple and minimalist different from Blush (a Colorwash inspired quilt top), and Peach on Earth (improv pieced quilt).

After playing with shapes, fabrics and layouts in EQ8, I chose this design.

EQ8 Mock-Up

First Block

The design took a week ...

RSC Week #16 - End of Yellow... Almost from Grandma's Red Needle

...at least for me!

I have a small finish

The table topper got black border and binding, Grunge Onyx Black

The hot pads, placemats and coasters are quilted and binding added to the front.

Round hot pads and coasters

Square placemats and hot pads

Both fabrics have some blue / turquoise and I found this Moda Marbles Key West Blue 9880-49 in my stash. I had a look at the new Moda Marbles color chart and it looks like it has been replaced with 9863 Turquoise.
The bindings need to be hand sewn or machine sewn to the back. I do ...

Bluey Boy - Funky Friends Factory Challenge from Sew Preeti Quilts

It was a beautiful day and I took Bluey Boy for a walk.

Bluey posing for the camera

The April challenge is sponsored by Funky Friends Factory, who provided each of the Island Batik ambassadors a free pattern of their choice.

It was a difficult choice because all of these patterns are so cute. I chose the Digger/Dixie Dachshund. The difference in two options was the tail. I could choose a short upright tail or a longer downward one.

I chose the short tail version, because it would be easier to photograph. Besides I can just picture the cute ...

RSC Week #15 Yellow continues from Grandma's Red Needle

First of all, as Chantal pointed out in my previous post, that I sewed three of the four bowtie blocks the wrong way! I was a bit cross-eyed after making all those blocks that day! lol Mistakes happen when we are tired.
I had to make them the right way, or else it had haunted me forever!

Here they are! Redone!
Thank you Chantal for pointing it out!

Yellow Scrap Jar blocks done

...and finally; Zipper blocks

The small yellow table topper has got a black border. I used a piece of ... well, not really 'ugly' fabric, but... a bit ...

Hodpodge! from The Modern Diary

On Easter we went to Hannah and Jeremy's.  I got a semi good picture of Hazel and I...she tends to not want to pose when I have makeup on!  We played Doomlings while the kids napped which was fun.
I got a picture of my Friends All Around quilt outside finally.
I sewed with Becky and Barb last Thursday and Becky was working on her Merry Mayhem mystery from NYD #148 so Barb and I were trying to find ours on the blog and I realized neither made it there.  So here is my finished (back in January ...

RSC Week #14 - Yellow for April from Grandma's Red Needle

 HAPPY APRIL!

Easter came and went, I hope you all had some relaxing and nice days. For us, it was all normal days. In Norway, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday are all public holidays. None public holidays for Easter in Mauritius. I never get the feeling of Easter here, except seeing the odd chocolate Easter bunnies and Easter eggs in the supermarkets.

New month and new color!
Angela at SoScrappy has chosen YELLOW for April's RSC - Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

I don't know about you, but I prefer doing the RSC blocks the first week(s) in ...

RSC Week #12 - No Purple Sewing this Week from Grandma's Red Needle

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

This is my delicious Easter treat; Choco Balls!
I don't buy Easter Eggs here, I don't like the taste. If I'd been in Norway, that's another story; the marzipan Easter Eggs are to kill for!

The week switching between rainy- and sunny days, which meant more yard work (when the weather permitted before noon)! Living in the tropics, yard work / weeding is a never ending task! April is just around the corner, the days & nights are getting cooler and the worst growing season is over (for this time!). Most households employ a yard ...

RSC Week #12 - Purple UFOs and Green Split-9s from Grandma's Red Needle

How did it happen it's weekend again?! I hope you all had a good and creative week.

The week started with more rain (as if that was a surprise!), but got better midweek. What's better staying warm and comfy inside playing with fabrics?! Purple and green, that is.

Not much playing with purple since all the blocks I needed to do are done. If you missed it, click here and here

However, I did cut the backing for the two purple UFOs (from last year).
When I made the big quilt, I had enough purple to make a ...

RSC Week 11 - More Purple and Catch Up on Keep the Home Fires Burning from Grandma's Red Needle

Another week has passed. March is still 'PURPLE', meaning working with purple fabrics for the RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2024).

I've made the remaining 9-patches

The pattern calls for 15 9-patches. I'm making them in RSC colors and may need another purple depending on the other upcoming colors.

A little progress on the purple quilt I mentioned in my previous post:
When I pulled it out, I had forgotten I made two quilts! Just a little pre-senile! lol Part of the backing for the big quilt is pieced, I just had to ...

Indigo Way is a Flimsy, a Wedding, and my RSC! from The Modern Diary

I am all caught up on A Quilting Life's BOM and my Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2024.  I went back and made a second January block in green and then made two blocks in purple for March.  Loving these scrappy blocks!

For Christmas Becky sent me a Halloween table runner.  It arrived in early February I think, but accidentally went to our old Milwaukee address.  The people there took it in their house and their dog got to the package.  They thought it was not damaged, but one green square was ripped apart.  I did not want to mention it ...

Seeing PURPLE all week! from Grandma's Red Needle

Angela over at Superscrappy has chosen PURPLE for March' RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge).

Purple has never been a favorite, hence there's no stack of purple in my stash. Either one likes purple, or not. After I started quilting, I must admit I'm growing on purple, with all its shades. Interesting history about purple here

Last week, we had 4-5 days glorious weather and when that happens this time of the year, we always ask 'what's wrong?' We took advantage of the sunny days and spent a couple of days yard working. It feels good being outside, dig ...

Everything, Everywhere, All in One Month from Sew Preeti Quilts

Paul's mom, Krissy passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2024.

Picture from Paul's graduation in 2007

We went to Georgia for her memorial service. It was a solemn occasion but I could not be sad for long since I was being enveloped in so many hugs from all the relatives and cousins, some I had never met before and some I think I had met once that Christmas.

Lots of Hugs

Paul kept it together and he looked so handsome.

Love you so much!

Paul spoke at the service mentioning how his mom was a rebel and rarely ...

RSC Week #7 - Red Heart Strips from Grandma's Red Needle

 Happy Weekend!
How come it's weekend again? It must have been a busy week!

After doing the last RED blocks (Red chosen for February) for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I tidied up my sewing table by moving the red fabrics to the large buffet (where most of my stash is stored), I thought I was done with RED for this month.

WRONG!
Earlier this week, I finished quilting a couple of patriotic / Norwegian Flag table runners and was about to cut strips for the binding. Before I was going to do that, I had a coffee break (very important ...

Island Batik Log Cabin Challenge and Blog Hop from Sew Preeti Quilts

Me: Have you heard of Door Dash?
Paul: Yes.
Me: Now meet Dashing Doors!

Dashing Doors

Dashing Doors is my response to the Island Batik's Log Cabin Challenge and Blog Hop that begins today.  My pun on Door Dash got a huge eye roll from Paul :-)

I received a half-yard bundle of Breezy Collection.  Purples, Greens, Coral and Pink make this a lovely collection.

Breezy Bundle

An original collection by Kate Colleran Designs, Breezy is a bright collection with a beautiful gradation of values and I wanted to show off that aspect of the collection.

Light to Dark!

RSC Week #6 - RED Blocks and BOM from Grandma's Red Needle

Another week has passed and it's time for RSC - Rainbow Scrap Challenge - update.

My intention was not to participate in any BOM or QAL this year, because I have way too many UFOs that have to be finished.
Did I stick to that? Nope! I couldn't resist Sherri McConnel's 'A Quilting Life' BOM 2024. A new block is posted first Monday of each month. I'm doing the blocks in scrappy RSC colors and here is the January block in green. The blocks come in two sizes; 8" and 16". I'm doing the 16" (more scraps ...

I am published! from Sew Preeti Quilts

No, this isn't the first time, but I still feel giddy every time I see my name in print, even if it is digital.

Kashvi was published in Make Modern #55

Kashvi, 60" by 80"

It is a jelly-roll pattern made using Island Batik collection Vintage Charm.

It is a lovely floral collection - airy, delicate and bright. Start this quilt now and you will be celebrating Spring in style.

Instead of choosing a white/black or gray background, I chose the Island Batik Solid - Cobalt Blue.  Isn't it refreshing?

Bright & Beautiful

The backing is Frosting from the Island ...

From Green to Red - RSC February Color from Grandma's Red Needle

 HAPPY SCRAPPY FEBRUARY!
How did it become February already? I'm sure you've noticed; February has 29 days - leap year - more time for quilting!

February means a new RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) color, and RED is chosen by Angela at soscrappy.blogspot.com

Since February 1 was midweek, we got some extra days playing with GREEN (RSC January color)
It has been a long time since I participated in a BOM (Block-Of-the-Month. I did not intend participating in any this year either, but then I came across Sherri McConnel's A Quilting Life BOM 2024. A new block is ...

RSC Week #4 - Last of the Greens from Grandma's Red Needle

It has been another wet week due to cyclone 'Candice'. Last week it was 'Belal'. 'Candice' was nothing compared to 'Belal'. It kept us in suspense for three days, looping over the island before it decided to accelerate and leave.
Perfect days staying inside playing with RSC green fabric.

Except for the Split-9 blocks I made last week, I've made some new blocks where I can use some of the 2" squares that have multiplied over the years!

I've made 4 Scrap Jar blocks

The 16-patches center is all from my 2" cut squares. The spikes and background ...

Nita Seamripper Strikes Again! from The Modern Diary

Agent Nita Seamripper here.  Clue three from the Secret Agent Quiltalong is done.  Somehow I cut one wrong fabric, one wrong size in that fabric and forgot to cut one thing.  It is all fixed now and hopefully works out so that I do not run out of the miscut color!
Here is my fabric for the Cuts and Bolts Game Day (Superbowl Sunday) mystery quilt.  Sadly, the Packers are out so I am free to sew.

Today, after getting a cut and color--badly needed, I cut out and sewed the stuff for that mystery.
Yesterday I did my first ...

RSC 2024 Week 3 - Green for January from Grandma's Red Needle

RSC - RAINBOW SCRAP CHALLENGE 2024 - hosted by Angela over at

I had sew much fun doing the RSC last year. I'm participating this year too. The first color of the year - January - is GREEN
I used up most of my greens last year, making 'Gerdrik's Quilt'

For this year's challenge, I have chosen a couple of blocks to make in each month's color. I have a lot of cut squares in different sizes. This box contains 3" squares, sorted on colors.

There are some blocks I've always wanted to do and one ...
