Indigo Way Gets Going! from The Modern Diary

I changed my mind about my colors for Indigo Way several times, but in the end I wound up with brown, cheddar, and indigo.  The first clue had Bonnie using indigo, and I followed suit.  Made about two thirds of the parts before I realized her indigo is my brown!  Oops, so I then started over and made all of the clue in brown.  You may remember I did this once before with a clue in En Provence!

I made two more Christmas stockings.  These are for Wren and Chava, I think!

Here is one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge ...

The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt and More! from The Modern Diary

Barb sent me "The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt" for my birthday and it inspired me to whip up a little quilt to match.
This is an Eye Spy I finished at the old house that I am not sure made it in the blog.
Hazel enjoyed doing some art work at my house yesterday.  She made a pom pom jack o lantern and then several monsters.  She is three now--time flies so fast!
I decided to machine stitch around the flowers and all for September Golds by Kathleen Tracy.  I then quilted around those same things and got ...

RSC Week 37 - September is Aqua + RSC August was Yellow from Grandma's Red Needle

 Hello, dear readers and followers!
Days & weeks seem to keep me busy with other stuff than blogging. The last months have kept me busy making Advent Calendars for my Etsy shop. I've made some new calendars this year and some that sold out last year. I'm almost done! I was not going to make any fall items this year, but ended up making some small items.

In between making Advent Calendars, I've kept up with the RSC, the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
RSC color for September is Aqua. I knew I don't have more then a few ...

September Sewing Homework! from The Modern Diary

Aqua is the color for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge for September.   Four blocks in two different sizes.
Also did the next block for A Quilting Life's BOM.

Here are all the blocks for that so far.  Looking forward to it coming together.

I also got the binding made for another quilt and it is half attached.  Hopefully today I will get the other half of it done.

Two Wedding Quilts, Two BOM's, Two Grandbabies! TOO BLESSED! from The Modern Diary

Now that I have a table in my library/office I have really gotten into puzzles (and audiobooks).  Here is a quilty one I made last week.
Here are my A Quilting Life BOM blocks.  Keeping up with them!
This is my Dakota Farmer Rainbow Scrap Challenge block and below, more of them.  I have many of these blocks in different colors and sizes and am looking forward to seeing them come together into quilts.  I think next year I am going to do Bonnie's new Morning Glories paper pieced pattern.  I enjoy paper piecing but like the idea ...

Avantika from Sew Preeti Quilts

I first made Avantika for the Island Batik catalogue. The working title was Mosaic Stars but once the quilt was completed, it needed a better name. Avantika means princess :-)

Avantika, the original princess :-)

Sunset Backing and Binding

Made using Island Batik Juicy Mosaics fabric collection, Avantika finished at about 64" by 84".
Juicy Mosaics is a beautiful collection and I love every fabric in it.

Of course, we took her out for a photoshoot, thanks to Paul!

Ooh, the reflection!!!

I was so much in love that I chose to make these blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2023.

Since ...

RSC Week 30 - End of the RED for July from Grandma's Red Needle

Hello everyone! Have you missed me? lol
I can't believe my previous blog post is dated beginning June! Where did those weeks go?! It was not my intention not to blog, it just happened without any particular reason.
July has kept me busy making Advent Calendars for my Etsy Shop. There are some new calendars this year and some that sold out last year. So far 36 (no, it's not a math mistake!) calendars are done, left to sew binding on some. The pockets can be a bit tedious, but it is mindless sewing and I do love ...

RSC Week 21 - End of the Orange Month from Grandma's Red Needle

Goodbye RSC ORANGE - Welcome DARK & BRIGHT BLUES for June!
I haven't gone through my blue colors for June, not sure what I have. I do have a lot of blues, but dark & bright?

Well, May and the color orange is nearing its end. I don't have a big variety of orange, just enough to make the blocks for the Swirling Star Quilt

The big block

...and the two small blocks

What to do with the remaining orange?
Do you remember the '70's, when orange & brown were hot colors? My first sewing machine, a Husqvarna, (not my photo ...

A Whole Lot of News! from The Modern Diary

For some reason I do not think this Kathleen Tracy sampler ever made it to the blog after I quilted it with a baptist fan and bound it.  Love how it turned out.
Managed to do the next block in A Quilting life's BOM before the move.

Made some of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks before and some after the move in orange.

We bid on SIX houses before finally getting our forever home!  After we closed we spent a few weeks making treks over and putting things away and each weekend we painted.  The library/office room is ...

RSC Week 20 - May is Orange from Grandma's Red Needle

 Hello everyone!
Any progress on Orange - the RSC color for May, hosted by Angela over at SOScrappy
I'm a bit behind, but will get there eventually. I have been busy finishing the purple quilt top. More about that in another blog post.

Orange. Orange has never been a favorite color and that is visible in my stash; approximately 4.5 yards.

Some of them may be seen as yellow with orange, like #6 from left. The spots are orange and since I have only a few, I chose to use it as orange. I had already cut the squares ...

Vicky and the Zips from Sew Preeti Quilts

The Island Batik challenge for April is Crazy Quilts with Aurifil Threads.

The Zippered Pouches - in progress

The challenge is to show off the thread from the Color Builder set in a Crazy Quilt! Try out different block combinations and layouts and experiment with decorative stitches and embroidery to highlight the tread you received.

I received the Frangipani Color Builder from Aurifil Threads.

To ensure that these threads/embroidery/stitches showed well on the fabric, I decided to use Island Batik solids.  Since I also wanted to make a modern interpretation of Crazy Quilts, the solids were a perfect choice ...

RSC Week 15 - Purple Progress and a Few Finishes from Grandma's Red Needle

It's Saturday again and time for RSC
I completely missed last Saturday and now we are already halfway through April! How did that happen?! Cooler days (beginning 'cold season') although the last days have been HOT and humid with thunderstorms.

Slow progress on the purples. First I did was to make the blocks for the Swirling Stars quilt

The small blocks (not very clever to photograph white on white!)

The big block

Do you remember the bunny fabric
A little purple here too and part of the bunny stripes has become placemats, mug rug and tea cozy. I used ...

Bourbon Street Bash from Sew Preeti Quilts

Designing for the May/June 2023 Issue of Quiltmaker Magazine, I chose the fabric line Celebrate. Designed by Kathy Engle, this fabric line will be available in stores in May 2023.

Imagine my surprise when the magazine was published in March 2023.  It is Island Batik's guidance to release patterns as close to the fabric availability as possible. If the fabric is not available (at the time of pattern release or shortly thereafter), then it feels like a tease or even a torture, especially when the fabric is this gorgeous!!!

For this reason, I have been slow/reluctant to ...

RSC Week 12 - GREEN Flimsy and Pieced Backing from Grandma's Red Needle

It has been another busy GREEN week.
My goal this month has been to use as much green fabric from my stash as possible, and I think I have succeeded, IMO. Last week I had made 48 scrappy Churn Dash blocks for the green scrappy quilt and made a couple of crumb blocks for the pieced backing (here).

A flimsy!!!

To get a better variety of green, I pulled out what I had of 5" squares in green. Not that it was that many, but fabric used is a good thing, isn't it? :)

It didn't take long piecing ...

RSC Week 11 - Green Updates from Grandma's Red Needle

Another GREEN week, inside as well as outside.
It has been raining and Friday at around midnight we had a spectacular thunderstorm that lasted about 2-3 hours. Some fishermen were interviewed on the news, they said they'd never experienced such a heavy thunderstorm.

March is the Green month. RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) hosted by Angela over at SOS Scrappy.

Rainy days and what is better than stay inside playing with stash?!
I have finished the 48 Churn Dash blocks for the boy's quilt.

Churn Dash blocks are fun and quite fast to make.

Some leftover pieces I plan ...

RSC Week 10, GREEN all over from Grandma's Red Needle

GREEN and wet outside - GREEN and cozy inside!
It's week 10 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge - RSC hosted by Angela over at SOS Scrappy. March is the GREEN month. It has been more rainy (and h*** humid!) than sunny days this week hence no venture out (except grocery shopping).

I've been working on green, trying to reduce some of the approximately 30 yards measured. Where did all that green come from?! Someone must have done some purchases! LOL

After making the pink quilt (left to add binding) for the little girl, I decided to make a GREEN quilt ...

- two small blocks for the same in BLUE
- Cut white background fabric for the Swirling Stars Quilt's remaining blocks
- 4 Pinwheel star blocks for the Star Streams (blue) quilt

Any progress on UFOs? Nope!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge in Green! from The Modern Diary

I had so many green hsts that I have already made ten (eight pictured) in the larger size and have more prepped in the smaller size.
I see from this picture that some of the greens are SO light as to almost not be there but in person I did not notice that.  I wish there was more variety, but I am using whatever I have and not making more hst's if I do not need to. Linking up with Angela for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2023!

Here is a four star book I just reviewed.  "Exiles" by Jan ...
