Rainbow Scrap Challenge in Green! from The Modern Diary

I had so many green hsts that I have already made ten (eight pictured) in the larger size and have more prepped in the smaller size.
I see from this picture that some of the greens are SO light as to almost not be there but in person I did not notice that.  I wish there was more variety, but I am using whatever I have and not making more hst's if I do not need to. Linking up with Angela for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2023!

Here is a four star book I just reviewed.  "Exiles" by Jan ...

My Checkered Past from Sew Preeti Quilts

If I could be doing anything quilty, it would be improv piecing.  It is like taking a journey. "Come hither ye fabric scraps; together we will travel and see where we end up."

Here is the Island Batik Challenge for March. It reads

"March brings a free month for you to determine your own project of any size, using any theme and any technique!! This is an opportunity for you to express your creativity without guidelines. Have fun!"

And I did have fun. See how the bits and pieces grew.

And then there were two

RSC - GREEN for March, February UFO Finish from Grandma's Red Needle

Happy March!
How come it's March already?! Many of you are waiting for spring. Living on the Southern hemisphere, I'm waiting for 'winter in Mauritius'! 'Winter' here does not mean snow, it means the cold season. Beginning April the days are getting cooler. One more month to go, can't wait!

RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) color this month is GREEN
Do I have green? Ha-Ha! Silly question of course!
Update: Approximately 30 yards!

What do I do with green? My goal is to use up as much as possible. Just got a bright idea to make a bed ...

Pink Dakota Farmer Blocks! from The Modern Diary

I realized tonight that my pink Dakota Farmer blocks did not make it to the blog.  I made two of the larger blocks and ten of the smaller ones.  There will be several quilts made from all these blocks when it is all said and done as I am just using up as many of the hst's in each color as I can.  Tonight I started working on green though I am not sure what the color is.  I figured I could trim and if that is not the right color I will be ahead on that and can ...

RSC Week #8 - End of the PINK Month from Grandma's Red Needle

The PINK month is over!
It has been a sew fun month, doing the RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) hosted by Angela over at SOS Scrappy.

Where to start? I have a lot to show and tell. Oh, better start with making a CUPPA! Done, and enjoying!

First of all, progress on the pink quilt; it is quilted! I didn't have to purchase pink thread and wait days for it to arrive! Yippie! Next step is trimming the sides and add binding.

I'm sure fabric multiplies! At the beginning of February, after counting how many yards of pink I ...

Paroma from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have a new finish to share. Meet Paroma.  Although the quilt was completed in August 2022
(hence the lush green backdrop), I had to sit tight till now.

Paroma. 56" by 68"

Paroma is a Fat quarter friendly quilt published in Quilt Patterns - Fun Fat Quarter Quilts for Spring (anniescatalog.com)  With 22 FQ projects for just under $10, this is a steal.

Paroma uses 20 FQs and was fun to make.

In process

20 FQs make 20 stars and yield enough fabric to make a scrappy happy border.  Paroma finished at 56" by 68" and it just sparkles ...

RSC Week #6 - Pink updates from Grandma's Red Needle

It has been a PINK week!
If you read my previous post, you may remember February is the PINK month. RSC (Rainbow Scrap challenge) hosted by Angela at SOS Scrappy.

2-3 weeks ago I went through and sorted some of my fabrics (having RSC in mind). All colors/fabrics are beautiful, some in small doses. Pink has never been a favorite, not even when I was a kid. How come I measured approximately 13 yards PINK in my stash?! Some must have multiplied, I'm sure! I even dived into a box with 5" squares cut and got out more ...

RSC - February, PINK all over! from Grandma's Red Needle

How did it happen we're a few days into February already?! Where did January go? I'm sure we all have been busy, I know I have!

February is the PINK month. RSC - Rainbow Scrap Challenge - hosted by Angela at SOS Scrappy

When I sorted (some of) my fabrics the other day, I had the RSC in mind. There are certain (fabric) colors I don't have a lot of. Pink, I thought, I don't have a lot of pinks, or browns, or purples. Was I wrong? When gather them all together, sorted on colors, I'm sure ...

So Much Sewing Going On! from The Modern Diary

I made a mini goal to get a row on the Sparkling New Year Mystery each week.  Here is last week (and an error I just noticed today) and below is this week's and another error!  So there will be some unsewing happening later on.  Oops!  Bug had to pose too.
Hazel did a little painting at my house on a cool mat that uses water only.  She really liked it.  She is potty trained now, time is flying!  My daughter is pregnant again and due in August...it is another girl.  We cannot wait!
My honorary daughter Rachel ...

RSC Week #4 - Last of the Blues from Grandma's Red Needle

 What a wet week!
We've had much needed rain this week, torrential rain. We got almost 10.50 inches in 24 hours! Lots of flooding, mud water in people's home, a few roads closed. Fortunate there was no cyclone, just rain, and more rain. Very good for the reservoirs! We are fine, just a little bit water in the basement,  which happens every time we get heavy rain. Friday the island shut down; all private and official businesses closed due to the weather, similar warning to a category 4 cyclone.

I've spent the days sewing. What else ...

RSC Week #3 - Not much Done... from Grandma's Red Needle

 The Blue Month continues

Not much has been done on the blues since I'm still waiting for 'Nina' to return from the Spa. It has been one week now, I just have to practice patience! UGH!
Update Saturday: 'Nina' has got the green light to return home! YEAH!

While waiting...

...another blue UFO popped up while I was looking for something else!
I had completely forgotten this one. I know why it was put aside; the backing intended for it was used on two placemats (custom order) and I didn't bother ...

More Sewing! from The Modern Diary

I worked on the Modern Quilt Mystery this week.  I had forgotten to label my blocks in part one so I went back to do that and realized I had not sewn all of two of the parts in the right quantities.  So I did that and picked back up with part two.
I then mixed up fabrics from my two sections so this block is a no go!

Here is the completed part two, stacked and labeled.
I also trimmed and sewed four smaller Dakota Farmer blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
And I finally trimmed and stacked the ...

More Mystery Progress! from The Modern Diary

I decided to participate in the Modern Quilt Studio's mystery quilt this year.  The fabric pull is very scrappy with two piles of fabrics in darks and lights....here are a few pictures of my pull.  I have already added more to this too but you get the idea.  If you are doing this and do not want to be spoiled for the first installment, skip this post.

Here the first clue..done but not photographed real well.
You can see some blocks are light and some are dark.  The second clue is out and so far I have ...

RSC Week #2 - Blues Updates from Grandma's Red Needle

 It's the Blue month.

I have not started anything new. I have 3 blue UFO's I hope to finish this year (previous post). I'm determined to work on those - until I get fed up with them! LOL Well, I hope that won't happen, because I love blues.

The last week I have worked on 'I've got the Blues'

I've made 3 split star blocks (total 5)

and 1 log cabin block (total 5).

I have cut all the dark blue and part of the light blue for ...

Tea Party is a Flimsy and Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2023 Gets a Start! from The Modern Diary

Tea Party (from Mystery Quilts Anon NY Mystery) is a flimsy.  It still needs a good press, a quick square up and a backing, but the binding is made.  Andi from Arizona offered to custom quilt it for me, so I will be sending it to her in a few months when she can slot it in.
Today everyone was busy so have been listening to "Middlemarch" and I spent quite a bit of time sorting through a zillion HST's that have been accumulating for decades.  I put each color/neutral in a bag and all the bags in ...

RSC - Blues from Grandma's Red Needle

I'm joining RSC hosted by Angela for the very first time.

RSC; Rainbow Scrap Challenge, Angela chooses a color every month. For January, the color is dark and bright blues.

I've been pondering what to work on where I can use blues. I've been thinking something new, but with all the UFO's I want to finish this year, I decided to do some progress on my 'blue' UFO's.

Gnome quilt

I've got the Blues.
I've always had the pattern together with the fabrics and blocks, 'of course' now it is nowhere to ...
