The Tobermory Event from caledonia quilter

I keep telling myself that I'm going to blog smaller and more often, but that clearly isn't working out so well.  sigh.

Tobermory with the Beach Girls happened from Oct. 17 - 22.  I would happily have stayed another week but responsibilities are a fact of life sometimes.

This is part of the sewing stuff.  Retreats require a lot of packing!  The upstairs fridge is jammed full and the downstairs fridge is holding the overflow.

Getting reacquainted with welcome cocktails

Sunset on the 19th.

Afternoon cocktails on the 20th.  Most of the week was gorgeous weather.

We did accomplish ...

Late August Wrap-Up from From the Strawberry Patch...

I had a friend ask me the other day of I was ever going to post again; that's how long it's been since I've updated here! Sheesh. It's not that I haven't been doing anything, that would be the simplest explanation; actually, the exact opposite is the case. I'm going to bring the blog up to date, but it will take several posts to accomplish that. At last post, I was pulling blocks-of-the-month out

Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

With the summer winding down, I usually bring out my August placemats and table topper for a new tablescape. This year I haven’t been motivated to set a nice table, other than just the basics for me and My Sweet Babboo. So, maybe you’d like to see a couple of past tables with these patchwork linens from my Colors of August sewing from a couple of years ago. The pattern is on the link, with a second link from that one to show you the finish. I also did an improv table topper with the leftovers, that you ...

Colour, Christmas, & Complaints. (And Covid, I guess.) from caledonia quilter

This is the hard 'C' post, pronounced 'K'.

Colour.  This one is self-explanatory...wowsers.  I love it!!

Christmas.  Actually it's Winter, not Christmas.  But that would ruin the alliteration.  A great strippy quilt.  This was fun to quilt.

Love the crochet doilies!

Complaints.  I'm running a personal challenge - 30 consecutive days with no complaints.  This started on July 12th, and I'm now on my FIFTH start date.  At this rate I will still be trying in 2022.  Interestingly, the first two restarts were because I was trying to one-up somebody; "Hah, you think that's bad...".  Also ...

Embroidery Quilt, Zucchini, and Laundry from caledonia quilter

This gal loves doing embroidery and is making quilts for her grandkids.  This one is number four,  think.
Edge to Edge in the center portion, with a separate border.
I still have zucchini in the freezer (which, as you can imagine, DH is THRILLED about, lol).  This was good.  Normally you see zucchini used in a sweet loaf but a savory version was great with soup and made for a nice bite at lunch.

With the weather getting nicer I can get some of the laundry outside to dry.  Save the environment, you know?  You can also use it to ...

Jungle Walk, Recipes from caledonia quilter

This is definitely the CUTEST quilt I've worked on in quite a while.

Jungle Walk by Harebrained Happenings

Here are a few of the blocks...

Today we are celebrating VALENTINES DAY.  Still locked in with the stay-at-home orders, until Tuesday.  Supper tonight will be leftover roast beef, but I'm making a Chocolate Olive Oil Cake for dessert.  This is a new recipe for me.  The Savour Ontario site (apparently I follow them on Instagram?) has never led me astray, so it will probably be very good.  Assuming I don't forget any ingredients which I know happens to ...

Stack & Whack, putting the garden to bed, and a Galette w/recipe from caledonia quilter

Here are two same-but-different quilts.  The blocks are the same, but the quilts have different settings.
This one has no sashing, and plain alternate blocks.  A dark and a print border.

This has sashing with cornerstones and an outer print border.

OMG that is a beautiful print.
I chose an Asian-style pantograph to pair with the Japanese fabric.

 GARDEN REPORT

DH dug all the remaining potatoes.  We had a bumper crop this year, in spite of the dry summer.  Watering every week produced some great tomatoes and the wonderful pile of 'taters.

IF YOU LIKE CABBAGE:  I put in six ...

Cooler Days... from From the Strawberry Patch...

The days have turned cooler, fall is in the air, October has arrived. You know, I truly have lost track and sense of time and seasons with all the sameness of these past six months.  I know that it's autumn but I don't feel like it should be. It's more than just a sense of time flying it's more like a disorientation for me. It's hard to explain.  I told Mr. Goodneedle yesterday that if I woke up

Monthly D.E.A.R. Report and Something Sweet from From the Strawberry Patch...

Here's my August reading list, these were all good; actually, D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) time has become one of our favorite hours of each day! I especially enjoyed the historical fiction works: A Well Behaved Woman, The Giver of Stars and The Union Quilters, as that's become my latest favorite genre but the other was a great read too. The Giver of Stars was most interesting to me

A Lone Star Beauty and Covid Update #582. OK, not really... from caledonia quilter

This beauty had been in-progress by the maker for quite a long time. The Lone Star block is perfect.  She pieced it using the pre-printed fusible interfacing product, which makes for a very exact block.  It gets a little bulky in some areas, but that's a small price to pay for great accuracy.

The diamond wedges were all quilted with c.c. (continuous curve), and the outer edge of the star, along with all borders, were stitched in the ditch.  I created some ghost blocks in the white background to break that space up into more manageable-sized areas.

There ...

Using some bounty! from Stitchin' Therapy

Have not been doing much of anything in the sewing room.  Just spending some time outside and enjoying the weather and garden.
Neighbor Farmer Steve left some bounty on the front porch....early cucumbers.  And I turned them into lunch  yesterday.....Cucumber Bacon Sandwiches.
Easy to make....and make up as you go along.  Light and crunchy for lunch on the patio.

Recipe:
  Combine for the spread:
  3 Tbs softened cream cheese
2 tsp of Ranch Dip Mix
(  I buy my Ranch Dip Mix in bulk at  Hochstetler's Country Store because I use it in everything)

  Slice cucumber thin ...

Maple Pecan Granola recipe from The Crafty Quilter

One thing you can count on in my kitchen pantry is granola and today, I’m sharing my Maple Pecan Granola recipe with you. I’ve been eating store-bought granola for the past ten years, but a few months ago that all changed. My daughter brought home some granola she purchased at the farmer’s market and it was so good! I thought, how hard can it be to make my own? It turns out not hard at all!

My Maple Pecan Granola Recipe is super quick and easy to make. It has just the right amount of sweetness and crunch and it's very customizable!

This granola is not too sweet and it has a tiny bit of salty to it. It’s also got just ...

Half-Square Triangle Quilt, Yes I Have Flour, Covid Update #2 from caledonia quilter

I really enjoyed working on this quilt.  There is so much depressing/horrifying/shocking (pick any one) news every day that this really cheered me up.

The whole thing is made from half-square triangles.  If you are involved in a guild swap of half-squares, this is a great use for them.

Mmm, love the back.

YES, I HAVE FLOUR

Like many people I'm not sleeping very well some nights.  Although I don't usually get UP at three in the morning, last Tuesday I was WIDE AWAKE.  So I figured, what the hell.  And since I have flour I ...

Entertainment During The Pandemic, UFO's, Quilt Ideas, Local Happenings from caledonia quilter

SCHEDULING UPDATE
At the moment I still have seven quilts here that I will be working on.  As they're ready I'll contact you and arrange a porch pickup.
I am not taking in any quilts until the provincial restriction on non-essential businesses has been lifted.  I realize you might find that to be an inconvenience, but as a rule I do what the "people in charge" tell me to do. Depending on how long this situation persists it might mean your booking in May gets delayed until Julember, or whenever.  With all the UFO's that are being ...
