Sunday Chat – Garden, Sewing, and Cookbook Winner from From My Carolina Home

Spring is arriving when the ajugas bloom, although this week has been a full-on Blackberry Winter with lows near freezing, and that will continue into next week. It may damage the plants that have already begun to bloom, like the azaleas, but these ajugas can take it. We have lots of clumps all over the lawn out front and the back yard. Most are purple like these.

Here and there are white ones.

The dogwood is blooming, this year a pretty white. Some years the blooms tend to a greenish color.

They are just lovely, looking like springtime at the ...

Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

It has been an up and down week. The beginning of the week we still had wildfires out of control, with the air full of smoke for a couple of days. Rain brought some relief, thank goodness. The clear blue sky with a few clouds was a welcome sight after a night of rain. At this point, the fires are under control, 79-100% contained, the evacuation zones have been canceled, and the burn ban is lifted.

The redbud is blooming in full now. Usually I spend some time out on the veranda with my good camera to once again try ...

Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

Warmer days have brought out some of the flowers on our property. The daffodils are just coming out, but I do not think their bloom production will be good this year. I forgot to fertilize them last fall, and they don’t have enough phosphorus stored in the bulbs. The largest bed usually has a lot more flowers.

But the ones that are blooming in other areas are lovely.

I love the pale yellow cups on the creamy white petals.

Another patch has all dark yellow cups on lighter yellow petals. The funny thing is that they are all facing ...

A Supply of Soft and Stable from Quilting Studio Adventures

Soft and Stable is a foam underlining of a purse or bag that needs structure.  It's what makes a bag able to stand on its own.  I have bought bolts of this stuff when I was deep into bag making.  I kind of tapered off.  But now?  I've been bag making non stop.  For whom you may ask.  And I may answer I don't know.  All I know is that I have to keep making. The two bags above are Noodlehead's Super Tote.  It's a great pattern and may be made with a recessed top ...

December Challenge and Blog Hop from Sew Preeti Quilts

I firmly believe that anyone who has a voice can sing. Whether their singing is pleasant to hear or not is another story altogether.  Similarly, I can make a quilt with any group of colors. Will that grouping be aesthetically appealing? That depends on the design.

December Challenge!

Four times a year when the challenge is combined with a blog hop, we the Island Batik ambassadors are required to use one of the new fabric collections, assigned to us. Further we are directed to use as many fabrics (from the collection) as possible.

I was assigned the Chickadee Fabric Collection ...

Safelight Quilt and In the Garden from From My Carolina Home

This is another busy week with not a lot of sewing going on. Last night I had the pleasure of speaking on Zoom to the Charlotte Modern Quilt Guild with my Well Loved Quilt Repair program, booked by fellow blogger Emily from Darling Dogwood. Such fun, and they had great questions! In the sewing room, I finished up the quilt repair and it is ready to be picked up, but I didn’t do any more pictures. Yesterday, I had lunch with my longarm friend, Chryste, and picked up this quilt for Safelight. She was helping with the quilting for ...

Woodland Chickadee November's Block from Quilt Doodle Doodles...

This month's block is a sweet block is a sweet chickadee. It has been another hectic couple of weeks, some of which was my own making. I got to enjoy back to back quilt retreats with all my favorite people. During all of this, Belvedere has been feeling under the weather. Those of you who know me, know Belvedere is my beloved basset hound. I ran him to the vet before the first retreat and had the lab confirm what's wrong with him during the second retreat. Belvedere has been diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoma. It's a ...
