At the Movies: F1 from Jo's Country Junction

Last weekend, Arnie and I didn’t do anything on Friday night. Saturday was slow, filled with household chores, and I thought we weren’t going to do anything again. I looked around to see if there was any live music…none. Then I remembered that I thought the new Brad Pitt movie, F1, was coming out. I …

Magic Tiles Quilt from Magpie Quilts

Sometimes, I just want to go back and remake a quilt I've done before and this is one of those times. I had a bundle of muted green and blue cottons that I had made a few things from already, but there was enough left to make a lap quilt.
I added a fabric for the sashing and then purchased a cotton backing and then sent it off for quilting. A pretty floral design for texture and a quick finish.
This is a nice light weight lap quilt - and will get softer with use and the magic tiles pattern ...

Madam Butterfly Finish from Melva Loves Scraps

Hey there!  I am making a quick stop with a mid-week check-in and to say that Madam Butterfly is ready to take flight to her new home.  This project was the result of finding a list of "Creative Quilting" ideas... you can find that list here.

Here are a few glamor shots from her photo session...  (I used a new location - the beautiful garden at my Mom's apartment complex.

At the beginning of the summer the landlords/owners invited the other residents to purchase a few plants/flowers to fill the garden beds.  I love that they invited them ...

More Raggedy Blocks from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Our grocery shopping is done for the week. I'm happy to report we found everything we were looking for. It was a pleasure (if grocery shopping can be pleasurable) to be back in our "regular" store. We also picked up some bird seed to feed the hungry birds. So everyone is well stocked with food now...even the kitties.

Back home, I went back to work on the four Raggedy & Friends blocks I'm making. Sadie came ready to work. She and Smitty have negotiated some kind of shift assignment, and she was on duty ...

July and August Goals and yo-yoing along from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

It has been a while and I've been lazy posting lately.  Too much going on here right now.

Much, much progress has been made on my "Joseph's Coat" UFO.  There is a lot of appliqueing going on and it is slow going, but I can see the end in sight.  There will be another row added to the bottom and then borders to be decided.  That is still a ways yet.  This will be my goal for August for the Chookshed Stitchers Challenge.

Three quilts were picked up from my lovely LAer.  The Xmas quilt  (on top of ...

A Few Finishes and some Art Smock Gifts! from The Modern Diary

I have not been sewing a ton this summer (maybe once a week) but I did make Indie and Hazel paint smocks for their upcoming birthdays.  One small, one medium.  I have a large one in progress for the future.

We planted a container garden again.  Mostly so the kids can enjoy watering it and collecting the vegetables.  They love it.  We have tomatoes in two or three types/sizes and tiny cucumbers as well as green beans that are thriving.  Our sunflower is looking good.  Our zucchini died fast and the yellow squash is slow to grow.  We also ...

Weekly update: a hug, quilt show entries, stash report, and August goals from With Strings Attached

I've enjoyed walks nearly every day.

Top: swamp milkweed, purple coneflower, blue lobelia. Center: vervain, liatris (blazing star), red lobelia. Bottom: nodding onion, pinnate coneflower (Mexican hat), Culver's root.

Milkweed nourishes monarch caterpillars and tussock moth caterpillars.

On to quilting!

My dear Magpie friends made a two-sided hug quilt for me. It was in the mail held for me during my trip.  It began as two hugs, one for Stevens and one for me, but it turned into one.  The blocks are from the U.S., Canada, England, and Australia.

My side was assembled by Terri and Gilly ...

Midweek: three finishes! from With Strings Attached

On Monday I drove to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, to deliver my three Wisconsin Quilt Show entries to the Nancy Zieman store.

The store is a full-line quilt shop and, yay me!, I did not buy anything.  There is an exhibit about Nancy and her career.

A year ago we made the same trip. It was Stevens' last day trip. Just 110 miles but logistics were getting difficult then.

Slow Down, You Move Too Fast! from Quiltville's Quips & Snips!

It's been 2 days of 3am wake ups.

Monday night wake up was caused by some random rainstorm causing a power outage at 3 am.

Power goes out, and seconds later the generator kicks on causing printers, appliances et all to do their communal bleeping letting us know that they are once again alive.

Thanks for that.

When I'm up at 3am to 5am because I can't get back to sleep but finally drift off again, it's a rude awakening at 7:45 when I finally DO return to the living to discover that I am ...

Red Hot Cinnamon Pickles Recipe from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

This is the recipe I use for my Red Hot Cinnamon Pickles. First, the recipe takes a good three days to get made. It isn’t three days of work but they have to soak in the lime water, then they have to soak overnight in the syrup, then you can them (water bath). I used...

Puzzling from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last week I finished this great puzzle called Trippy Picnic from Blue Kazoo. I bought this puzzle through Kickstarter a while back and just hadn't done it. It is an excellent puzzle. I really enjoyed the art and the quality of the pieces. Sadly, this puzzle is slightly oversized for my puzzle storage. For this one I used my Jigsaw Puzzle Roll Mat Puzzle Storage Saver to assemble the puzzle on my dining room table.

July 2025 PHD Report from Life In Pieces

July was a busy month. I was away from home for over a week helping Grad Girl move.  So there's not a lot of progress to report for the July PHD report over at Ms. P Designs.

There are no updates to my PHD log.  No finishes, but no new starts either.  I can at least celebrate that!  There has been progress on some other projects this month.

There's been a bit of progress on the Rose Throw counted cross stitch project.  I just didn't feel like doing much handwork this month.  Does it look like a ...

Hot Stuff - Oliso Iron Case Challenge from Sew Preeti Quilts

Picture this - a completely solar-powered, aerodynamically designed, sleek automobile of the future. Its exterior is so dark and shiny that the passing landscape is reflected perfectly on its surface.

Cool Trees, Scorching Planet

In January, we received a mini Oliso Iron, complete with a matching Solemate (a base for placing the hot iron) and a thick wool carry case. Island Batik's August Challenge is to decorate the carry case for our Oliso Mini Irons.

This was an unusual project. The thick wool carry case would certainly break a needle or two, if I tried sewing on it. The idea ...

Wow! It is stunning! Thank you Carrie!!

With that heavy quilting this quilt will never fall apart!!

This one pieced tulip has this discoloration. Any thoughts on that?

This is stamped in the corner on the top of the quilt. I wish I could read it.

Stashbusters August Check In from From My Carolina Home

Another month has gone by, time to check in with our efforts to use up the fabric in our stashes. To play, just keep track of what comes in and what goes out each month. There is no judgement when the sale table calls, an adorable print shows up in the quilt shop, a vendor’s offerings at the quilt show are uniquely appealing, or retail therapy is needed. We all have to buy fabric now and then, and keep our quilt shops in business. There is only one rule, report as ‘out’ only what is completely finished, quilted and ...

Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss!

WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group! As you can see, I’ve been doing this for years (over 400 weeks!) and so our group is strong, loves to share, and is very welcoming.

If you are new to linking up, I have a separate page that steps you through the whole process.

What I’ve been up to

I spent the first part of the week editing the tutorials from the quilt retreat I ...
