Shades of Gray from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. There were plenty of distractions yesterday, but I managed to make some progress on all fronts. We left early to take the truck into the shop to have its air conditioner repaired. It wasn't finished by day's end, and so I expect we'll pick it up sometime today. Also on today's agenda is to get my hair cut and colored. It needs it badly. I hate sitting for that process of coloring, but I'll be glad to get my overgrown mop tamed.

Starting Over from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. There was a red sky this morning. I happen to know it isn't because a storm is coming. I know this because Portland, Oregon, and the surrounding Willamette Valley are under the first ever extreme heat advisory. Hot weather will arrive tomorrow. I suspect what we're seeing in our red sky is from wildfire smoke.

Smitty doesn't mind the heat. He soaks it up when the sun shines through the sliding glass door in the afternoons. Until he gets too hot. Then he moves to the shade to cool off, then back to ...

My Favorite Things from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm writing fast this morning. We have to drive into town to get the windshield replaced on Mike's truck. Yes, the windshield. Do you remember the windshield episode...the one where we weren't even two hours on our way for our trip to Alaska when a gravel truck threw a rock and broke our windshield? Oh yeah...that was fun...and annoying.

The crack spread out and made new ones during our trip until there was very little space on my side of the windshield that wasn't obscured by cracks. Fortunately, the ...

More Raggedy Blocks from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Our grocery shopping is done for the week. I'm happy to report we found everything we were looking for. It was a pleasure (if grocery shopping can be pleasurable) to be back in our "regular" store. We also picked up some bird seed to feed the hungry birds. So everyone is well stocked with food now...even the kitties.

Back home, I went back to work on the four Raggedy & Friends blocks I'm making. Sadie came ready to work. She and Smitty have negotiated some kind of shift assignment, and she was on duty ...

Quilting Affairs from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Brrrrrr....we're having some pretty darned cold weather here. It isn't cold enough to snow...yet...but I just about froze my tush off yesterday while I was out filling the bird feeders. I'd been out among the English to get my pedicure. There were no issues during my outing...which is unusual, because I can always find something to whine about once I leave the Three Cats Ranch. My toes were done, and I headed for home without incident. Once home, I got under the covers and pre-heated myself before going out ...

Getting Back to Normal from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We have a pretty view of Mt. St. Helens this morning. We've been having some very nice weather, and we're expecting it to continue into next week. After last week's deluge, it's nice to see some blue sky and sunshine. And with what's happening in California right now, I'm not complaining about the rain...just acknowledging it. There are worse things than rainy days.

Sadie knows one thing that's worse than a rainy day...being unceremoniously captured, crated, and hauled off to the vet, where they do unspeakable things ...

MacDonald Observatory from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and Happy Easter to all who celebrate.

I'll admit that Easter is kind of a non-event around here, except that Matthew has a birthday coming up on April 2nd. He'll hit the big 4-0 this year. Every year since his birth, I've checked to see if Easter would fall on his birthday. So far, it hasn't. And since Easter baskets are no longer a part of our lives, Easter gets short shrift. Nevertheless, I remember attending Easter sunrise services with my mom, especially when my dad was deployed to Vietnam. She often ...

Tan Your Hide in Oceanside from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends! Or maybe I should say, good evening. We're nearing dinner time here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch. Before I forget, I wanted to tell you the Starlink unit is set to be delivered Monday. Yay! (I know y'all have been waiting on tenterhooks for that announcement. You can rest easy now.)

So here's how we spent our day. We had lunch at the Oceanside Broiler in the Oceanside Harbor. This was the view from our table.

After lunch, we headed to the Oceanside Pier. This is something of a pilgrimage for Mike ...

Food Hangover from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm late getting my post up this morning, and now I'm going to have to write fast. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, Mike and I went out last night to celebrate Valentine's Day early. Here's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Since late December, I've been trying to lose some weight. I'm about halfway to my goal now, and I've lost nearly 9 pounds. To achieve that, I've limited my consumption of food and alcohol. And so with such a rich dinner last night ...

Busy Weekend from ... Cat Patches

Good Monday morning, my friends! We're winding down from our birthday extravaganza. Oh my goodness. A lot has happened in three days. It was all wonderful, and it will also be wonderful to get back into a simpler routine. Here, at the Three Cats Ranch, we really love our daily rut. I have lots of pictures to show you, so fill your cup with whatever you're drinking, and let's have a chat.

Backing up to Saturday, we were at this vineyard. It used to be known as Chateau Benoit. The last time we were here was with ...
