Getting old sucks from Lisa H Calle's Blog

So today, I turned 55 and spent the day at Paoli Hospital getting x-rays of my hands, feet, and knees. Fun time! I have had pain in those areas for the past year. I got blood work done last year, and my ANAs were high, which I guess is a sign of inflammation in the body. I got more bloodwork done over a week ago and am still awaiting the results. The X-rays don’t show anything abnormal. The results say normal mineralization, whatever that is.

It’s Double Nickel Day!! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I have now been 126 days alcohol-free. I continue to feel great about this decision in my life and wanted to share with you what I think is the number one benefit. There are many benefits but I think clarity is the one that I love the most.

Eliminating alcohol has given me clarity in work, friendships, and family.

I have thought about lowering the price of my membership, QG Creative Design Society for some time. I knew that I wanted to make it more affordable for everyone and that it wasn’t at the current price. The task of ...

Second Chance Quilt: Leftovers Shoot For The Stars from Wedding Dress Blue

Friend Cheri shares her leftovers with me from time to time. It is always exciting to get a new bag of possibilities.

Sort and straighten and ask, “What do you want to be?”

Somehow, I was seeing stars. And that gave me a place to start.

I added a few fabric scraps from stash and adjusted as I went along. I don’t know how I would write a pattern, or even a tutorial for something like this. It is an interesting process, though. A discovery every step of the way.

And the, Ta-dah! A quilt!

Finished size is 33 ...

Free Motion Quilting – Magnolia from I Patch and Quilt

Some of the flowers that I sowed last month have already turning into plants that I can plant out in the garden this week. Some have not come up at all. I will have to redo them to see if it is a problem with the seeds, or if it was too wet and cold the last two months.I love to fill my garden with bright colors. my garden has the perfect size for me right now, but I do wish there was a bit of room for bigger plants, like a magnolia tree.

Magnolias flowers are something special ...

Is Decluttering Worth the Hassle? from The Quilt Quine

I know there are successful “Sort Your Life Out” experts out there but I have to say that I find decluttering exhausting. I can’t swing a cat in my workshop and Freya might be bringing the contents of her flat here so I am trying to clear out some of the stuff that I don’t actually “need”. I have been listing a few things on Facebook Marketplace but there are a lot of scammers and chancers to look out for. I sold a nice, red formica table and stools that I loved but they were not being used ...

Quarterly Update from Factotum of Arts

Not quite a quarterly update, and I realized that I did not post about my goals here, on my blog. So, let’s start by sharing my goals and how they are going now that we are a third way through the year.

Solo Show Goals:

Enjoy the experience which means for me accept that the residency was for experimentation not perfection COMPLETED
Set-up a couple of Studio Visits Had 1 Studio Visit

Emails hurt from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I have worked hard not letting the off comment hurt my feelings. Maybe I am overly sensitive this week since I’ve been working hard to get the QG Creative Design Society members over to the new $9.97/month price. In doing this, I have given myself a huge pay cut to make it affordable to more quilters, so when someone tells me that they are disappointed in how this was handled… it freaking hurts my feelings and frankly makes me a bit angry.

New and Adorable Paper Pieced Puppies from Made By Marney

I’ve been busy designing paper pieced dog blocks and quilts for my friends and customers. It’s been exciting putting together a collection of blocks for one specific breed. These are some of my recent collections…

Inspired by my friend’s beloved Cavalier King Charles, all 4 of these blocks were used in a quilt and some pillows for an auction. Thanks to Sara for providing this photo. You can find these Cavaliers in my ETSY SHOP. I currently have 160 dog blocks to choose from.

My niece Mandy has a Doberman which inspired this lap quilt for a ...

Very Nervous! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I have just completed phase 1 of the $9.97 membership, QG Creative Design Society. The sales page is up, and you can sign up for it now. If you are a current member and pay more than the $9.97/month, your membership has been canceled, but wait til you receive an email from me as you have a credit! So please be patient.

As I was canceling 200+ memberships, I got a pit inside my stomach that maybe this was crazy and I wouldn’t be able to pay my bills. </p>

How to Use Half Square Triangle Paper from Patchwork Posse

If you have a lot of half square triangles to make, the half square triangle paper is going to be your life saver!! You are going to love how quick and easy this makes sewing HST. It’s kind of like a triangles on a roll cheat sheet for quilters.

You’ll be layering your fabric, right sides together with the paper and then following the arrows – sewing on the dotted lines.

It’s super simple and your HST turn out nearly perfect!

You’ll be able to whip up a bunch in no time using the paper method.

Free Motion Quilting – Flagstone from I Patch and Quilt

Looking for a garden-inspired quilting design? There are plenty of quilting ideas out there for flowers and leaves, but how about adding a garden path to your pattern library?

This garden path design is based on the flow of the filler design called pebbles / pebbling. Instead of repeating tiny circles though, we use irregular shapes. Shapes you would find in a flagstone garden path. Pieced to fit together like a complex puzzle, each shape different from the other.

Having each shape being different gives you a lot freedom to fill any area, and it will allow you to vary the ...

The Tattoo quilt, block 3– from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

 Courage, dear heart.   — C. S. Lewis.

This was the saying that kept going through my mind as I pieced this block. Fiddly, and time-consuming; and my mind went to enough different places while I worked on it that I made several mistakes in the cutting of the fabrics.

No coup here, but this was a good start on the first day of piecing this block.

I’m now considering cutting out the remaining pieces of the entire quilt so I can just sew, trim and press. A long weekend should fill the bill, so long as I’m not interrupted.

Stupidest Decision? from Lisa H Calle's Blog

Well, this can be either the best decision in my business or the worst decision. You may be wondering what I have decided.

Photo by Produtora Midtrack on Pexels.com

I have had the Quilter’s Groove TRIBE membership since June of 2021, and I absolutely love it and the members. Currently, the price is $24.97/month. There is a low-price offer for the Design Decision Dilemma at $9/ month.

For the past 3 months, I have been thinking of making a huge change and have made my final decision. I will combine the two memberships AND reduce the ...
