It's tidy up time! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

There was no lightning or thunder last night, but I have a Velcro dog with me this morning. And it's NOT Murphy. Miss Lexi heard me get up, and she's attached to my leg! It's only foggy outside, so I'm not sure what the problem is!

I MUST get some of this crap off my desk today. It looks like a tornado hit, which is typical, but why can't I keep it clear? I'm working on it, and I spend time at the desk each and every day, but getting rid of this paper ...

Quilting in space from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only space nerd who also enjoys quilting. We live in an amazing world. People like my parents went to school in horse-drawn cutters (like a sleigh) and wagons, or they walked several miles. No electricity for my parents when they got married in 1954. No TV, no running water! And now, from the comfort of their Lazy-Boy chairs, they are watching the Artemis 2 circle the Earth while we hear everything they are saying in crystal clear voice communication.

The last 100 years have been amazing.

Not to disappoint my students ...

The long way home from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm home, but it might have been faster to walk! OK -- I'm kidding, but there were a few hiccups along the way.

As I lay in bed the night before, I contemplated the issue with my mom. Do I leave it and deal with it next time? Should I try to talk to her healthcare workers and have them broach the subject with her? Do I ask my aunt to deal with it? I decided to be a big girl and address it with both of them during my short morning visit before I left for the airport ...

A beautiful sunset from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh-- while I'm excited to be going home today, I'm not in fact ready, but I have no choice. I think I need to have a very serious discussion with my parents this morning before I leave, and Mom is already a little ticked off at me. Yep --- the glow is gone - I guess that's why, in the past, I've stayed five nights, but that sixth night tips the scales of being civil!

I think she was annoyed that I said something to her. It drives me crazy because she will not call anyone, and therefore ...

Much ado about jigsaw puzzles! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I went for a long walk yesterday morning, and I swear there is something about the air here. The temperature was below zero C—I know—I know, I'm repeating myself. But I put my hat and scarf on and went out. While not cold, I was happy to have those items. By the time I was done, hat was off, jacket open, mitts off. The temperature rose quickly; my body was heating up. The air is dry, and it's uncanny how different it feels.

By 9 AM, I was out walking in my sweatshirt, sleeves pushed up ...

Progress on the hexagon quilt from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

You guys are the best!! Did I say that yesterday? Anyway, I'm working through the comments, and yes—the apple didn't fall far from the tree. We didn't mention the clothes yesterday, but I have three days, so I'll mention the decluttering again today. I had a peek, and there are stacks of clothes on the dresser because I suspect it's full, as is the closet.

I don't get out here that often, so I don't see the day-to-day nuances. But I asked my mom why he doesn't use her walker for ...

Learning to create MORE digital files! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Regarding my parents' anniversary (72 years), my Dad is 92, and my Mom is 90. Married young!

I have to tell you a story about my Dad. For the most part, he has been getting around pretty well - no cane, a replaced hip, and a knee, but lots of aches and pains - darn arthritis. And he still drives himself to "work" (the Museum), where he volunteers rebuilding stationary engines. If he can't find the part, he makes it. I see him slowing down and often does the supervising rather than the work, certainly anything heavy.

Before Christmas, he started ...

The mystery of the missing remote is solved from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

If you read yesterday's post, you saw at the very end a note that the technician was on his way to the house. WAY ahead of schedule—he was scheduled to come in the afternoon but arrived at 9:30 AM instead. I quickly notified my SIL, who had just gotten out of the shower.

Well, it's hard to believe, but the technician fixed the problem and was gone before we even knew what happened. I told you—those tech guys are smart!!!

The issue? I'll try to tell the story in a few sentences. At DH ...

The saga continues from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I am not going to get into the details of what each phone call to my service provider has entailed, but it is incredible that each time, the story has been different. What I find shocking is that each person doesn't know the entire story, or doesn't know the product very well.

I've been like a dog with a bone this time, just because. It's definitely been a test of my patience, and in the past I would get angry, raise my voice (OK -- I'm being very polite when I say that), and I decided ...

Strange sleeping arrangments from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OH MY GOSH --- I feel like I'm sleeping in my nephew's basement. WAIT --- I am sleeping in a basement -it's not my nephew's. My host is a single, youngish man (used to be a bank manager, now drives a school bus, from India), and well, it's rather a very bizarre situation, but I feel perfectly safe, and you just learn to roll with the punches.

It's all a good lesson to book a hotel in advance, because you never know when a rodeo is coming to town!

And the house is in a decent ...

A Quick Trip from From the Strawberry Patch...

Since I last posted we've made a quick trip to New England and back. The trip wasn't a planned one but came about as a result of another quick trip: one that Dad made straight to the floor a week ago Friday. He got up from his bed that morning and was going into the bathroom, the next thing that he remembered was waking up facing the ceiling; he had fallen backwards, striking the back of his head

More puzzles from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

GRRRRR --- I still can't figure out how the darn shower works, so I have to lower myself to ask again. I've twisted and turned everything, and NOTHING works. NO instructions on the wall! It will be some silly little thing that I've overlooked, but good lord! Just make a shower with a pull knob that works!

I don't like this room anyway, as it's on the ground floor. It's not my favorite place. I'll ask for a different room next time. I won't worry about it—there are many other things that ...

The apple fell close to the tree! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

And then this happened. I was up early, wrote the blog, gave the dogs a short walk, called an Uber, and soon was at the airport! I know!!! Don't worry - I had at least 20 minutes before the luggage cutoff time.

I see they have new check-in kiosks at the airport, and they are nice. And they WORK!!! So I was able to print my two bag tags with zero problems. Actually, it wasn't the printing of the tags that was an issue in the past; I couldn't get the darn thing to recognize me. But with ...

The joys of getting old! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It makes me chuckle while I'm here. Whenever I come, I think, "That's it—we've got everything figured out." Then I return, only to find that new things have popped up. These things are simple to us, but to aging parents—one housebound, with a mindset still in the 40s, and the other who doesn't like change—life is a challenge.

It's so bizarre because my Dad is into computers, and you would think he would be fascinated by the self-checkouts and ATMs, but NO - he wants human contact when he shops. So, there will ...

Ah, September! from From the Strawberry Patch...

The weather, at long last, has cooled off a bit! Brisk mornings and clear blue-sky afternoons with a slight breeze have been the norm around here this past week; it's a welcome relief~ I'm SO ready! The Dahlias are putting on a colorful show right now. We made another trip north to New England a week ago, a quick back and forth to avoid Labor Day traffic, it's all good. My mother had been

Mother's Day from From the Strawberry Patch...

How did you spend your Mother's Day? We made a quick trip north to spend the day with my mother. As I've reported before, she's been having a tough time lately; health-wise. She's still in a care facility (as of today) and fighting as hard as she can to get back home again. Augie did what he could; he volunteered his services as a therapy dog.It must've worked because, after passing OT and PT

...A Time To Heal... from From the Strawberry Patch...

"For everything there is a season and a tine for every matter under heaven..."A new season has arrived since I last posted, the days are longer and warmer now, the birds are singing; and a LOT of healing has taken place. When I was here I reported on my klutziness around the vacuum cleaner hose which tripped me up and caused a quick trip straight to the floor with my left arm taking the
