Catching Up from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! We have some catching up to do. Since yesterday's post was the reveal post for August's art quilt, I have two days worth of activities for you today. You might want to fill your coffee cup, and then we'll get started. Go ahead. I'll wait.

My morning slow-stitching had me filling up the first hoop on the Fall Harvest piece.

It's a rather large piece embroidery-wise and then, of course, there is the little mini quilt to paper-piece for the middle.

So, I've decided to designate finishing this piece (minus ...

A Winner and an Update from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and a happy weekend to you! We're back from our little boating trip over to Starbuck, Washington. I've spent the past half hour (at least) sorting through pictures and trying to pick out the best ones for editing. My Photoshop Elements editor has been giving me grief during this process. It seems I can only load so many pictures for editing at a time. Three times, I've selected one picture over another and then deleted the first one from my editor. When I do that, it takes me back to a much, much ...

July 2023 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

June was a productive month. I finished two stitches, Floral Butterfly and the star ornament. The ornament wasn’t on my June list.

I started The Short List many years ago to create goals to work toward and a way to focus. I change things up as my goals and interests change.

Project 1 (stitching): Words of Joy Tree, pattern by Ursula Michael. I’m stitching this on red 14 count aida with DMC white, all from stash.

Project 2 (UFO): The membership quilt. The two sections are complete and ready to quilt.

Project 3 (original): The challenge due in ...

Quilting Quomplete from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Doncha just love it when I make up words like that? And you read them and say, "Huh? What the heck is wrong with her spell checker?"

It was a hurry scurry morning yesterday. We're having some new neighbors up for a get-acquainted dinner on Saturday, and so I'm trying to get some stuff done ahead of time. Those sorts of things stress me out a little. The more I can get done ahead, the better off I am. And all of that to say that I hurried through my to-do list yesterday morning ...

June 2023 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

I finished my June OMG, the Bucilla Floral Butterfly embroidery kit. The six inch framing hoop came in the kit. This kit was a gift.

I’m happy with the finished project.

In hindsight, I would have done the framing a bit differently. It wouldn’t have changed how it looks on the wall either way, just personal preference.

I would also have swapped out the floss for DMC. Bucilla uses no-brand floss in their kits. The stitching looks fine, but it knotted a lot. I could have saved myself some grief. I saw comments online that Bucilla sometimes shorts ...

OMG: It's Finished! from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's been a blustery couple of days. We're expecting more wind today and through the week. Tomorrow is expected to be very warm. It makes good gardening weather, and that was my first stop on yesterday's comings and goings. I hoed weeds, replanted some sunflower starts, replaced the cucumber starts that were chewed off, and I planted the little carrot seed strips. If, like me, you've never seen seeds packaged this way, here's what they look like:

They were folded over and over themselves like on a playing card, which accounts ...

Time Flies from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! Welcome to June. We're nearly halfway through the year, and bearing down on summer. The nicer weather has been quite a treat. It means more time outside, but it also cuts into my sewing time. Yesterday was a busy day. We had grocery shopping to do, and the grocery store was a zoo. It has been a zoo the past several trips, mainly because they've taken our store and redistributed pretty much everything in the store. It's as if someone took the whole store and flipped it over horizontally, and then for good ...

FMQ Wild Hexies is done! from Quilting & Learning

Hi! Welcome to week 431 of Free Motion Mavericks. I hope that you are doing well! I had a burst of creative energy after my Out of the Box Fibre Artists meeting this week and finished free motion quilting (FMQ) Wild Hexies. Yeah!

Adding Flowers and a Border

The first thing I did when I started to work on Wild Hexies again was to see if I had to re-do the cute cars and trucks, since that's where I was having so much trouble with my stitches. It turned out that it wasn't that bad, so I just ...

OMG: A Finished Quilt from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm writing fast because we're going to plant our vegetable garden today. It's a busy week ahead with appointments on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Since I'll be spending the day in the garden today, I should be a pooped pup by Friday. For now, though, let's just enjoy this beautiful sunrise.

A friend passed away last night. She wasn't a close friend, but she was someone I'd known for a long time. She had a son the same age as my Matthew, and they were fast friends when they ...

May 2023 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

May snuck up on me. I got up one morning and there it was, not nearly as warm as it ought to be.

I didn’t finish anything in April. As it sometimes happens, the finishes will come all at once. Good thing there are projects in the wings to prevent the mad scramble for new projects.

I started The Short List many years ago to create goals to work toward and a way to focus. I change things up as my goals and interests change.

Project 1 (stitching): The Tiny Modernist Holiday 2022 SAL. If I don’t finish ...

A Lazy Day and a Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! I hope you enjoyed our one week of summer because we're back to the gray and gloom today. Last night, rain started to fall. I expect we'll get rain off and on over the next couple of days before it returns to a most-of-the-time thing on Thursday. The warm weather won't return until weekend after next. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. I'm still holding off spreading my wildflower seed. If I throw it out when there's no rain, the birds will eat it before it can germinate. If ...
