Mardi Gras is Tuesday, March 1 this year, just about as late as it can possibly be. Does this mean a late spring too? Perhaps, so we need something bright and cheerful for winter days. It is a good time to do a new table with only what I have on hand. We’ll have some Mardi Gras fun today, and revisit a few past posts with more ideas. My tablescapes have become less elaborate as I concentrate on tables for two. I haven’t had a dinner party in three years, and don’t see myself doing one anytime ...

Many of you have been following our newest big adventure I first wrote about last summer. (In case you missed it, CLICK HERE.) Admittedly, my blog posts were rather sparse during the last quarter of 2021 because we put our plan into motion and my husband actually made the big transition and moved down under in early November. We spent the holidays apart for the first time in 34 years, but we chose to make the season merry despite our circumstances. As for my poor husband’s ...
read moreI’ve sat down to write a blog post dozens of times. I’ve written paragraphs, then deleted them and tried to write again. Always the same: I just couldn’t find the right words. I try to be very mindful when I do write a blog post, I never want to add to the “noise” of this clamoring world. There’s already too much negativity and nonsense being put into the universe. I don’t wish to contribute more of the same. But it’s time for an update and what better time ...
read moreEarlier this week, we had a lovely dinner with friends, then drove over to the Lake Julian Festival of Lights, a drive through light show with part of the proceeds benefiting Special Olympics. This one is much smaller than the big Tryon show, or the ones that take up a stadium parking lot, but has more charm. The path winds around the park next to Lake Julian, a small lake in Arden, NC. The night was overcast with rain on the way. The almost full moon can be seen at the top of the photo. The main display had a ...
read moreWow, it is just a few days to Christmas, where has this year gone? December comes in with such anticipation, and then I run out of time. Thankfully, the decorating is much simpler now, with carloads going to the thrift store and not having every horizontal surface in the house covered in Christmas. I finished all my shopping last week with a frantic day of figuring out a different gift for My Sweet Babboo when the one I ordered looked like it wasn’t ever going to come. The company won’t answer emails, or respond to contact forms, and ...
read moreFriday after Thanksgiving is a fun day. Most years, I do not leave the house that day as it is the time to put the 1947 version of Miracle on 34th Street on the DVD player, take down all the autumn decorations and begin to put up Christmas. Of course, this weekend begins the shopping frenzy for those with gifts to buy. I miss that as the family has stopped doing gift exchanges, so I only need to shop for My Sweet Babboo and his 101 year old mom. In recent years, we’ve gotten her things she can eat ...
read moreThis is my favorite day of the year! We’ll begin the day with my baked eggs breakfast, have some nibbles through the parades and football games, and enjoy our turkey dinner in the early evening. I promised a photo of the pilgrims with the little mini quilt from Autumn Jubilee a few years back. I put them with the little quilt on a stand with a pumpkin topper, a little turkey and rust color candles in clear depression glass candlesticks with silk flower candle rings.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is a tradition in our home, to be enjoyed ...
