I am trying to do a Christmas Through the Year project each month, but did nothing in February so I made five pillowcases (they are folded) though four of them are going for birthday gifts--I am counting it.

OH --- I had set a schedule for this post for tomorrow morning and forgot to take it off. Ooops!
We had a good session with our UFO group this past weekend. So much is getting accomplished it's blowing my mind, and repeatedly, I hear that the only reason people finished something is that they committed to getting it done for the group!
I have to include myself in that group. I'm working on an applique quilt that I taught as a year-long class in 2015, and I don't seem to have gotten much of it done during ...
read moreWe had a busy old day last week, heading off to Palmerston North, clutching a “To Do” list in my hand. First on the list was was to drop off my current donations for the Foster Hope Charity, which looks after children in foster care. The drop off point is in a lawyers office in Palmy where one of staff is the local co-ordinator. The office is situated on the 1st floor, with no lift available, so I had to struggle up the stairs with my walking stick, goodness knows how really old and infirm people get on when they ...
read moreI’ve just completed stitching six little drawstring bags for the charity Foster Hope. These are given for children in foster care, amongst with other items, and they use them to keep their toiletries or pens and pencils in. Just so you don't thinks I'm Wonder Woman, I have to confess that the bags were stitched, bit by bit, over a period of several weeks – I’m still pacing myself sitting at the sewing machine after my spinal surgery. Then I had to go and purchase some suitably coloured cord, and the final job was threading it through ...
read moreIt was an exciting morning today, when I drove the car down to an appointment, after not driving for several months because of my back problems. Just a short drive, but very successful. I had an appointment with my oncologist as a follow up on my breast cancer five years ago, all remaining well, I’m pleased to say. And I’m forever grateful to the wonderful Dr Claire, as she was the one who ordered me an MRI which pin pointed my compressed spinal cord condition, and then referred me to the neurosurgical team.
The other first was a ...
read moreI don't know all of you who read my blog. There are many of you that I've never met, and some friends and acquaintances have joined along the way.
Yesterday, I learned that a blog reader passed last week, and I want to acknowledge her. Lois was a wonderful lady and her and her daughter used to read my blog over breakfast. She was the most amazing hand quilter, although she did take a machine quilting class from me and did some small projects. She was in her 80's when she did that. She was in my ...
read moreI don't have any slow stitching to show at the moment so thought I’d share my Give Thanks cushion which I stitched a coupe of years ago.The words sum up what I've been feeling lately after my spinal surgery.
In Every Thing Give Thanks
I’m thankful that my spinal condition was diagnosed by MRI, the only way to find it, I was told. If it hadn't been found I would have ended up in a wheelchair.
I’m thankful that here in New Zealand hospital care is free, and I’m thankful for all ...

During my stay in Ward 7 I had a visit from a young male physio who was just completing his training. It was Pink Shirt Day, not that I really knew that. Anti-Bullying Day is a day when people wear a pink shirt to symbolise a stand against bullying. But the physio staff have their own uniforms and instead of a pink shirt this young man was sporting a topknot tied up with a pink ribbon. He was at pains to tell me all about it, and said his female colleagues had made him do it ...
read moreI went on a little shopping trip yesterday. I got to walk amongst bolts of fabric, look at kits, spools of thread, look at samples. It was quite a heady experience. I will NOT mention the name of the store - I don't want them getting into trouble. But I was in the store by myself. I did a little retail shopping, which I'll share with you either today or tomorrow - it depends on how much time I have this morning.
Initially, I went to do curbside pickup, which went a bit further than the curb. I'm OK ...
read moreTo make things easier for hospital visiting Robin moved or caravan closer to Wellington to reduce the travel time. The day arrived for my spinal operation and I was whisked away. The six hour operation went well, the surgeon told us, and I am now sporting a 10 inch scar down my backbone.. Must say that the neurosurgical team were so professional and certainly inspired confidence. I was hooked up to all sorts of equipment, and the nursing care was excellent. Although it was difficult to lay prone on my tummy for some time each day.
As expected the next ...
read moreYesterday morning I had my second Pfizer vaccination. The first one gave me nothing more than sore arm. Around 5pm yesterday, I started to feel a bit queasy. My arm was ready stiff and sore. I was on my way home, and as soon as I got there, I made a cup of tea and fixed a salad.
By 8pm I felt more queasy and decided to go to bed and read. by 9pm, I was shaking so violently it hurt. I have never been so cold in my entire life. If I could have made it to the thermostat ...
read moreOur two weekly Sew Wot get-together was a little different this time. Helen was our hostess and she had arranged for us to meet at Fox’s Cottage, our gorgeous local quit shop. She was concerned that two of us (back and knee problems) would have trouble climbing up the flight of internal stairs at her home, so arranged our morning at Fox’s Cottage instead. Isn’t that wonderfully thoughtful of her.

read moreI’ll probably forget to post tomorrow, so here’s wishing you all a lovely mom’s day!
My mom and I aren’t doing much, it’s supposed to rain and it is after all, mom’s day for me too :). I’m making us pizza, and we may see if we can remember how to play Canasta, a card game we played frequently when I was younger but neither of us remember anything about it.
In an effort to make our pizza more healthy, I added 150g’s of spelt flour to my 350g’s of bread flour ...
read moreI caught the little mouse inside my violin case the other day. I’m not sure how she managed to get inside, and we had to have a serious discussion about that, because now I’m wondering if that string that broke on me last month was due to a little mouse scampering about where she shouldn’t have been, and not caused by me over tightening it?
And then, this.
I mean, come on! I know exactly what she’s up to here. Trying to shame me into playing! I wonder why she didn’t restring my violin for ...
read moreIt’s hard to believe that our little Gemma turned three over the weekend. No, we didn’t bake a cake, but she had her favourite “Jimbos” meat for dinner that night.
Birman cats are very playful, and she has been spending time with her “knitting” a length of leftover yarn from a project. She carries it around in her mouth, lays on her back and attacks with her feet, having a fine old time.

read moreIts been another busy week – I’ve been doing a bit of this, and a bit of that. I’m sure I've told you that it is Autumn here in my part of paradise, so it was high time to get my little hand stitched Autumn wall-hanging up on the wall. It’s not new so no doubt you have seen it before. The bald eagles from Juneau, Alaska, also got a time out of the cupboard - I had purchased this kit from the local quilt shop in Juneau. We enjoyed a week or so staying there way back ...
