Sunflowers, Sleeves and a Quilt Show! from The Cozy Quilter

More colourful petals were added to the sunflower in the centre of my project this week.  This picture will end up being a 12" circle so there is a long way to go still. I like the turquoise background--the colours in the sunflower really pop.

I may not get as much cross stitching done this week as I have entered 9 quilts into our guild quilt show in early May and I need to hand stitch the sleeves onto 8 of the quilts. (the smallest one already had a sleeve). This afternoon, I made sleeves for 6 quilts and they ...

I spent the next year stitching on the GO !

with the applecore quilt

as my take-a-long piecing project...

Hand Piecing while traveling

is so relaxing and rewarding...

I spent the last week putting the finishing touches

on the Apple Core Quilt...

Here it is on our bed.....DONE !

I had FUN incorporating a few Kaffee Fassett

fabrics into this quilt...

The binding and label are all DONE ...

Purple Scrap Blocks and a Sunflower in the Making from The Cozy Quilter

I got to work on my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks this week using my purple and red-violet (magenta) scraps.  These squares are 6.5" square.  I still have lots of purple scraps but my red-violet collection is almost non-existent now.

I made another pineapple log cabin to add to my collection.

We had summer-like weather this week and the garden has burst into bloom.  These red-violet hellebores came from my MIL's garden.

The daffodils in my garden also put on a great show this week.

The grape hyacinths are so pretty!

Ladybugs  and bees are making an appearance as ...

Free Patterns, Lone Star Medallion, Stitching Stars from Canadian Needle Nana

I spied this mug among the mark downs at Winners the last time I was there. Still a bit expensive but I recognized the design. Sure enough when I turned it over to look at the maker, it said Rifle Paper Co, a fabric designer I enjoy. I used their Holiday Classics line for a quilting project two years ago. I think that is the same design there in the upper left. Beautiful fabric but costly. The mug is also beautifully made with gold trim.

I didn't know they produced so many items featuring their marvelous designs- planners, vases ...

Pineapple Log Cabin and a New Cross Stitch Project from The Cozy Quilter

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour for April is purple so I dug into my purple scrap bin and made my pineapple log cabin block. I don't repeat any of the scraps in each block.  Someone had asked if I was paper piecing these blocks...I purchased 2 panels of muslin with the pineapple blocks printed onto it years ago and I am using them for these blocks. I have enough for 24 blocks but will only do 12 for this project and save the rest for another quilt.  No paper to pull off after sewing. I laid out the ...

EPP Plus Quilt, Embroidery, Pizza, New Quilter Video, Barred Owl is Back from Canadian Needle Nana

This is what is left of my geranium plant that was so beautiful last fall when I brought it inside. It is alive but spring can't come fast enough to revitalize this one. Truthfully, being on the floor, I kind of neglected it a little and am lucky that geraniums are a hardy plant.

It seems like I've watched Jacques Pepin, the French chef, all my life. Decades ago while living in Labrador, I would catch his show on PBS on Saturday afternoons, and loved it. I follow his ChefJacquesPepin Facebook page and recently Jacques shared how to ...

Free Patterns, Farmer's Wife Quilt, Hockney's Pink Tree, Apple Blossoms from Canadian Needle Nana

Above is David Hockney's Pink tree Study for Cherry BlossomHere at Art Finder you can read 5 interesting facts about David. Joyous and colourful are two words often used to describe his work. It reminded me of the pretty apple blossoms I found on forgotten and very elderly apple trees at the farm. May 24, 2016.
In the same file was this photo of my Farmer's Wife quilt. Brand new to quilting, I haven't any idea how or why I thought I could sew these blocks. I bit off more than I could chew for quite ...

Slow Stitching and Trying Out a New Ruler from The Cozy Quilter

I added lots of stitches to my cross stitch picture this week.  I just love the colours in this project...so bright and cheerful.  One friend said this pattern looks almost Scandinavian to her and I would have to agree. There is a butterfly to sew next, once the large pink flower and the beet are done.

I bought myself a HuRTy ruler (designed by Latifah Saafir) at QuiltCon and wanted to try it out on a small project before tackling a bigger quilt.  Here are my first few Half Rectangle Triangles on my design wall.  I am not sure ...

Three Free Patterns, More EPP Pluses, Embroidered Snowy Scene, Muffins, A Show to Watch from Canadian Needle Nana

My Jasmine Magnolia is bravely blooming a little. Photographed against a screen and that backyard bank of snow.

I'm a bit proud to have kept this one alive and kicking. And thanks Mary Anne, Magpie's Mumblings, for that tip about banana skin water being excellent for houseplants too. We eat a lot of bananas so I will definitely be adding it to the mixtures rather than straight to composting.

LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color's prompt this week was about favourite spring flowers. Think it will be a while before I'm seeing any flowers here. This ...

Sunday Chat – Tablescape, Stamping, Garden from From My Carolina Home

Good morning. Let’s start off the day with a nice photo of the pear tree in bloom. I went out when the sun came out earlier in the week to get a better shot of the lovely white flowers with the mountain background. It is something to help your mood this morning as we all deal with the time change. Ugh, I hate this switching to daylight saving time.

I really like this one, and it may be an entry in next year’s state fair photography contest.

I’ve been clearing out a lot of my tablescaping stuff ...

Sewing to and from QuiltCon in Atlanta from The Cozy Quilter

My husband and I drove to Atlanta last week so I could go to QuiltCon.  This was my second time attending this great gathering of modern quilters from around the world.  My friend, Christine and I went to the 2019 conference in Nashville, but unfortunately, she was unable to come this time.  As you know, I like to sew in the car to stay awake on long car trips and this trip was no exception.  I did quite a bit of stitching on my Spring picture. I forgot a couple of floss colours at home so the holes will be ...

My Dad loves it but my Mom has had enough already! Speaking of my parents, today is their 71st wedding anniversary! This picture was taken a while ago, but you can see how cute they are! Hearts and Flowers from The Snarky Quilter

Thank goodness dreary February is brightened up by Valentine’s Day. This year I decided to go traditional with hearts and flowers to celebrate, though I won’t turn down a nice bottle of wine or some dark chocolate.

I think I once made a hearts quilt, but it was gifted a long time ago. Rather than go the quilt route I found it was faster and more fun to sew some hearts onto leftover blank greeting cards. The background is painted pattern tissue, and the hearts are old sheet music that I painted and stamped. The papers were heavy ...

Winter Stitching and other Happenings from From the Strawberry Patch...

I've been as busy in the sewing room this month as an active puppy will allow me to be! Never a dull moment around here. I've begun cutting out all the pieces for "Stars and Snowflakes" by Wendy Sheppard. The trial block is shown here, under construction. I hope to have this all cut and prepped to take along for stitching together at an upcoming weekend retreat. While preparing all the pieces for

In The Back Yard... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

We have had a warm, sunny and beautiful autumn

and the dahlias in the back yard are loving it...

This is a 30 foot flower bed chock full of

dinner plate dahlias....yes, they are giant!

We have enjoyed their gorgeous, saturated colors

for several months now...

They love the warm days and cool nights...

These are a riot of color !

The Western Oregon RAINS are coming soon...

If I wait until after it rains...

this flower bed will be wet and slimy

and awful to clean out.

The dahlias are beautiful but...

they gotta go !

Poof !

Just like that ...
