Virtual Quilt Challenges on Facebook from Virtual Quilter

A couple of days ago I shared some designs with much more elaborate sashing than is usual. I opened the project file while looking for the pieced sashing designs I had stashed away, and carried on looking, and wondering what if I challenged you to try drawing some pieced sashing.

I suggest you start with 3 inch wide sashing for 12 inch blocks, that is draw a 3 x 12 inch rectangular block with a 3 inch square block for the corners.

The example I have shared above include a version of the corner block to use at the quilt ...

Everyone needs a dog from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Every morning, I have a few websites that I check. One is my progress on the Virtual Challenges to make sure that my steps got uploaded overnight. And now I can say "Toto - we're not in Kansas anymore!". I'm now in Oklahoma on Route 66. It's pretty exciting - a total of 629 MILES since the beginning of the year. Is anyone else signed up for any of them?? Some are short - like 26.2 miles. But no - we have to pick the longest one! And you know what? I'm OK with that.

I have to admit ...

Bill Gates is my hero!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I solved my computer mouse problem by putting a book under the mouse. For some reason, it no longer wants to run on my desktop. No worries - I'm good with that. An easy and inexpensive fix! I would hope that in our current environment that we're all going to be finding ways to fix things rather than buy a new product.

I can't say that I'm surprised, but I'm a bit taken aback at how the BUY NOW e-mails keep coming through every day. Store owners - I know you're hurting. We're all hurting ...

An easy day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Wow -- I did work all day yesterday, but I don't really have much to show for it! I found one picture on my phone that I can share with you.

It was our virtual UFO meeting yesterday and I see e-mails and pictures from everyone and I SHOULD have got it all prepped for this morning, however, I did not. So I'll be posting all the pictures tomorrow. Technically, there should be no excuse for anyone to NOT have finished their homework. In case you're wondering, I did finish my homework. That was a HUGE job to ...

It's all about the binding from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I lied. I said that things were pretty much normal at our house. For me and the girls, not much has changed, BUT for DH, there are no sports programs on TV. There's nothing for him to watch. He's not into the highlights or whatever they are showing these days. He's getting a lot of reading done.

But for me, as I said, not much has changed. I walk the girls, I sew, and I read. That's about what I did before, but at least there would be a group meeting or sewing days or something ...

Virtual Challenge – Using applique drawing tools from Virtual Quilter

Yesterday I challenged myself to use some of the drawing tools I have rarely used. I have drawn many applique blocks but have not used some of the available tools more than a couple of times. I was wondering what this months challenge would be so decided it should be something I needed to do myself.

I usually start drawing a new shape by drawing a square, then changing straight lines to curves, adding nodes, and adjusting until I got what I want. It works for me most of the time, but there are more tools to master, so I ...

Sewing finesse from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

As far as stuff to show you, there's not as much as the previous day. However, I'm happy to report that I finished reading two books yesterday. One a paperback and the other was an audiobook. I'm so happy to be finished with Radium Girls. This is a novel about a true and shockingly disturbing incident that occurred in the US. The story started before WWI and spans several decades. I had never heard of the Radium Girls and all that did to make our society much safer from radioactivity.

But never have I been so shocked ...

True confessions from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

NO -- I did not do an hour of tidy up in the office. I looked for a couple of things which I did find but that didn't really constitute tidying up. I swear I'll get it done this week. I did a few computer clean-ups but nothing that you can visually see. I'm only failing myself - I get that. I'll just try to do better. But I don't feel bad about it at all! And I'm further along in my book than I was in the morning!

It's also time to evaluate the ...

Sleepless................ from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I hate it when you wake up and then can't get back to sleep. Why is that? I tried reading - a novel and a non-fiction. Neither worked. I emptied my head of all the things that I need to get done this week by writing them done. That didn't work. I had a wee snack since I was a bit peckish. Petted the dogs. Finally, after a couple of hours, I went back to sleep, but that put my morning out of sorts.

Oh well - thankfully that doesn't happen every night as I'd go mad.

It ...

A slow day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yep- it was a slow day yesterday. Not even sure why. No, I know why. I volunteered to help someone because the task they have at hand is very important - at least I think so. That errand took over 6 hours and I can't say that I came away with a warm and fuzzy feeling that things will change. I got home after 2 PM and I wasn't in the mood to do much after that.

I feel now that I should have taken a wee bit more control to ensure that we maximized the time, but we ...

The art of journaling from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

The apple sure doesn't fall far from the tree at our house. I've probably said this before, but we've likely all forgotten! My Mom has written a diary for years. And I bet she still has them from when she was a kid. Now that I think of it, she probably doesn't as I doubt they would have had access to the paper to write one. But when she got married, I think that's when she started. You know - that's a good question to ask her next time I chat with her and where ...

Playing with Pieces

The challenge this month is to draw some 9 Patch blocks.

So, New Project—Horizontal setting. Give it a name you will recognise!

Open a New Block—Create Easy Draw Block..

Set up the grid initially for 3 x 3 squares, and 9 inches square.. If you set the size for a multiple of 3 then the grid will match the measurements of the block. However, this is not the most commonly used grid to draft 9 patch blocks.

Keep in mind that the block design can be used at any size, regardless of the drafting size ...

Out of sorts and it's not my fault from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I pretty much use my camera to log my achievements of the day. Then I use the photos to blog about what happened. Well, lately you've probably noticed that the pictures are not necessarily of things that got accomplished. I'm making progress in getting things done, but necessarily finishing quilts or other projects. I did get some much needed tidy up done, but there's still more.

Yesterday was no exception to the rule. I did get a lot done, but I've nothing to show for it. Well, except for this picture.

This quilt is a HUGE ...

Sit n Sew from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It was one of those days again at Sit n Sew. I seem to have spent a good part of the day searching for stuff for others. I don't really mean searching, but someone asks a question and I seem to have the product or a sample to show. We talked about our new panel exchange - which you'll hear more about when the time comes. One person forgot the power cord and foot pedal for their machine, so I had to get one of mine set up.

BUT - it doesn't matter. I got my quilt top assembled ...

I know what I have from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It's a rainy day here! But that does not mean that one can sit around the house. Not when there are steps that need to be accumulated! I tell you this virtual challenge thing has the four of us in somewhat of a panic situation from time to time. Ronda was out for steps yesterday and then noticed that her BRAND NEW FitBit had a crack in the face. ACK! How did that happen? Luckily it was still covered by the store return policy and the store that she had purchased it at had another one in stock. So ...

I put on my sorting hat from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

You must bear with me as I document an update on my walking challenge. I've put in some intense days of walking this past week - well not really intense, but I did add in an extra walk with the girls and I've been logging some miles on the treadmill at the gym. It's not a big deal, but at the end of the day when you've done over 10 miles of walking, you're tired. As a result, I slept in this morning. Really slept in and that was mostly because the darn plow woke me ...

A race against time from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK -- I'll try not to go on and on about my virtual challenge, but I'm loving it. DH thinks I'm obsessing because I talk about it every day. And some people that I talk to think that the four of us are in a race against each other. NO - we're only in a race against ourselves. I have another challenge where I'm walking across Canada. Each day my FitBit transfers the miles that I've walked to the map. Since M lives in Vancouver and that's where I am right now (having started in ...

Back to work from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Hmmm -- I had a great day yesterday, but here's a mystery to ponder. We are doing our virtual challenge and as a result, I can see the number of miles logged by each day by our little group of four. I just eeked out 10,000 steps in the day. Shelly took a walk so I get where she got her miles, but Laura???  What did Laura do to get her miles yesterday??  I'm impressed Laura - keep it up. It just means that I'm going to have to up my game!

It's a new week and ...

Changing Habits from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Habits can be our friends and our worst enemies! Habits like buying a coffee every day, eating a cookie or going for a walk. Twenty years ago, I got into the bad habit of having a hot chocolate at Tim's. I was at school and everyone went to Tim's for coffee. Since I didn't drink coffee or tea at the time, I settled for hot chocolate. That was the start of my downfall! OK - so I'm exaggerating! But it wasn't a good habit to get into. Sometimes, I'd have two a day and once ...

Virtual Challenge … Electric Quilt Library System from Virtual Quilter

Edit When you have something to show after having fun, you can now share your results in Virtual Quilt Challenges, a closed Face Book group for members only. You will have to answer three questions so I can decide if you can join.

After many years, and thousands of blocks, My Library in Electric Quilt is a mess. I have made a New Year resolution to sort it all out. I have made several attempts over the last few years, but often finish up more confused than I was before, so I hope to get some order into the chaos ...
