Building a T-shirt from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm here at the retreat! We're back at Retreat at the Farm in Shelbourne. I arrived at 7 PM, and it's good to be back even if I have to work most of the week. Hey -- I have presentations to prep and samples to sew, but I can have more fun doing that while visiting with friends than being at home.

I brought most things I need, and whatever I'm missing, then we'll make it up! There is one thing that I have a big issue with my phone charger. I have two, but again ...

Cutting it close! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

What an AMAZING day yesterday! Some great discussions on tools that quilters buy but never seem to use to their fullest extent! Things like digital cutters, EQ8, and embroidery software! We have enough interest to form clubs for all of them, and I want these groups to be manageable, or we lose the ability for everyone to chat. So we'll see how many people sign up!

I now have a bit of paperwork to prep for each of them, and I have this afternoon and tomorrow to do so.

The minute that we were done, I was out the ...

Making T-shirts from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

During Quilt Canada, I stumbled across some demos from The Sewing Room in Calgary. I really liked the teachers and what they were demoing and just their entire setup. I found out that they had a T-shirt class in August and well, I want to learn how to use my serger better. So I enrolled. I believe we are 15 in the class - that's crazy!!! And they have a perfect set-up for multiple cameras. Very well done, but then they have a techie person who works for them.

The first day we chatted about sizing and drafting the pattern ...

Challenging Corduroy from Celtic Thistle Stitches

My stitching up of clothes for gorgeous grandsons continues!

I am a sucker for a good fabric for boys so when I saw the Dinosaurs in Diggers and on Scooters fabrics at Flamingo Fabrics I couldn't resist :) Two more tops from that, by now, well-used Jalie pattern. I think these are the 15th and 16th that I have made from this pattern.

Tops are only half the story though, a boy needs trousers too! These were my first ever attempt at sewing with corduroy and it was a messy business, there was fluff everywhere. I was really worried cutting ...

Wildlife sightings from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

We had a blast at the Virtual Retreat -- AGAIN!!!  A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, or stayed to sew and chat, and contributed to the merriment! I LOVE virtual retreats. They may not be my most productive days, but they do help to pass the time.

We got technology tips - thanks to France and Morgan for their input. We got tips on where to buy fabrics, what to do during the extended lockdown, a source for recipes, thanks to Anita, and we got to see a cool steam iron (thanks to Susan) and a ...

The definition of a good day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yesterday was a PERFECT day! Well almost! But let's just say that I see a LOT of light at the end of the tunnel, and it's coming pretty fast!

First - I've been madly listening to audiobooks and just finished The Billionaire Murders - a story written by a Toronto Star reporter about Barry and Honey Sherman who were murdered three years ago in their home. Hmmm - an interesting read, and why did the police seem to mess up this case so much. The murderer is still on the loose, but with BILLIONS of dollars on the line, it ...

The learning curve from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Even though I technically didn't make a lot of progress yesterday, it was an amazing day. I learned so much that my brain was about to explode by the end of the day.

So I have software that runs my long arm called Quilt Path. I know how to make it work for the very BASIC stuff like Edge to Edge quilting. I downloaded the manual onto my iPad, and I guess I should read it to learn more. There are the manual, videos, and the best thing of all - there's Facebook. If for no other reason, I ...

Saved by COVID? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

There's so much learning going on in this house, my brain is about to explode! I have a quilt that the customer insisted on being done custom. So that's OK, I've done custom quilts before, but not with the long arm computer. Thankfully, the quilt is not large, but it's on-point. That means there are setting triangles, alternating blocks, and corner triangles. The same design (chopped appropriately) is supposed to go in those sections. I don't know how to do this.

Well, I'm happy to report that the alternating blocks are done! That was ...

More makes for boys from Celtic Thistle Stitches

The recent delivery of my first copy of the Ottobre magazine has ramped up the boys clothes making obsession :)

First up a pair of denim twill shorts with patch pockets and a mock fly for the bigger gorgeous grandson. The mock fly had me thoroughly confused and, at one stage, was stitched up completely inside out but I got there in the end! I should have carried the topstitching right up to the top of the waistband but only realised that when it was all done :( Next time I will get it right!

Fingers crossed we get the weather for ...

Twins and titles from Celtic Thistle Stitches

I have been feeding my boys clothes making obsession with some scary new additions to my sewing kit.

I have been thinking of subscribing to the Ottobre pattern magazine for a while now but have always put it off, partly because I didn't think that my dressmaking skills were up to it. I really want to make contemporary, practical outfits rather than classic clothes for the gorgeous grandsons (and, hopefully, future grandsons and granddaughters!) so I finally decided to bite the bullet :)

Now, I know that the magazine itself doesn't look scary

but what about this? There are ...

'Tis The Season from From the Strawberry Patch...

It's summer, and you know what that means-- it's peach milkshake season at Chick Fil A! I was treated to one the other evening, (Mr. G knows the way to my heart!) following the latest dental procedure I really didn't want to bite down or chew on anything too hard. That was my excuse then; I don't really have an excuse for the second one that I had yesterday, except for the fact that they're only

Show and tell from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It's like Christmas - there's show and tell all around. I still have a couple of days worth of class show and tell and I hope to get through it all in the next couple of days. My goal is to edit each day's photos the day I take them. Put the pictures in folders and then they won't get forgotten which is what often happens!

A super crazy day yesterday, and I swear I was on the computer ALL day which I was, but I got that project done. Yeah! This morning, I made a list ...
