What are you reading? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh, I love your comments, and I'm a bit behind in responding to them! Patience! And yes, I think using ChatGPT is a matter of experience, and I'm brand new to it. I need more information, Tammy - like, did he get it saved to a PDF, and if so, I would love a copy!

Not to tempt fate or anything, but I am having the most relaxing days and no dreams last night - at least none that I remembered. After I delivered my project (more on the project in a second), I had time to spend a leisurely ...

AI Failure from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK -- I'm up for trying new things. And there was something that I have wanted to do for a long time, and last night, I decided it was a perfect job for AI. However, I'm sad to report that the job it did was dismal. A total failure, and it was an easy job.

What's the job? I have written MANY posts for QUILTsocial.com over the last 11 years. By my count, there are close to 400 posts. Yep -- that's a lot of posts. I use many of them in my teachings, and I sometimes ...

Tidy-Up time! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

You guys say it best! When, as a retiree, you "complain" about not having time to do something, that becomes a problem. If you are retired, you are supposedly the person in charge of your calendar.

And thank you for the excellent comment about my teaching style for Colour My World. I appreciate all feedback—good and bad —because that makes the next class even better. I have a couple of follow-up items to attend to later today, so please be on the lookout for an email later today.

Do you have a friend that you could trust 100%? Yesterday ...

Make my bed! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh my goodness — I love all the stories about typing class. I don't remember how many words per minute I ended up typing, but there are days when I wonder how I ever managed! That backspace key is so handy! And that IBM Selectric -- what a dream!

As for retirement, someone mentioned that many retired people comment that they are so busy now that they don't know how they managed to work. Seriously? Do you want to jump from the frying pan into the fire? I guess if that is what you want to do, then it's ...

A prep day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I love to teach - I think everyone knows that, and I seem to be a natural at it. Perhaps when I was a kid, I should have veered that way. But I'm happy things turned out the way they did.

I lived a very isolated life as a kid, and the only job opportunities I saw were those of a teacher, a nurse, or a secretary. Can you believe that? But it was common, and that's why we have a lot of retired teachers and nurses who quilt.

I learned to type in high school, either in Grade ...

Who turned out the lights? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I am on the home stretch of the craziness that was September. There are still a few days left, but come Friday, when I don't have to travel for a long time and only have one class to prep for this weekend, it's going to be heaven.

I hope you realize that I typically have more than one class on the weekend, two of them back-to-back on Saturday. I intentionally did NOT start the jacket class this month because I knew it would be silly from a timing perspective. That one starts in October. Yeah me! See -- I ...

Cables and cameras! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Does anyone believe me that my October is going to be quiet? Of course you don't - I've cried wolf way too many times! I know I'm tempting fate by saying that, so let's move on. Let's look at what happened yesterday.

It was another long day, but I believe I have all the video equipment linked up. I'm fairly certain it's all working, although I had a minor scare this morning when I tested one of the cameras. It was flashing that the battery was dead. I dug out an extension cord for ...

A long day of machine embroidery from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm so glad you enjoyed those "through the ages" photos. It's hilarious to see how we age, especially under the harsh requirements of those pictures - no smiling!

What a wild day yesterday. OK -- so it wasn't that wild, but I was married to those two embroidery machines.

Two embroidery machines - hard at work

They are on opposite sides of those two work tables, and it seemed that I went around in circles all day as I fed them thread. Except for two broken needles, everything went as planned.

ACK - -a broken needle

I have a funny feeling ...

Old dogs - new tricks? You bet! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Old dogs can learn new tricks!!!! But they are also very forgetful!

I make many presentations in a month, although that number will be significantly reduced going forward. The presentations contain pictures from me, which have been significantly reduced in size, and from others, which can be HUGE. Did you know that when you send pictures from your phone, you can resize them before you send them? Yep --- that way you can send up to THIRTY photos at a time and the quality is still good enough for people to ooh and aah over it.

The next time you forward ...

Mom is HOME!!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

AHA -- another great idea about getting rid of the SCRAPBOOK stamps is to check with retirement homes! I need to make a few enquiries over the next couple of months and then see what I can do. It would be great to empty that closet --- I know she will fill it up again, but as long as she is not buying new stuff, I'm OK with moving things in there so it's less messy!

I dropped off the bag of scrapbook stamps that I had sold (Facebook Marketplace) on my way to the airport, so that was good ...

Coming and going from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Whoever said that traveling is fun - well, think again! The prep for travel is insane. I had to pack two suitcases of samples, and that was after I finished making some of them. And there is one jacket that I'd like to take, but do you think I can find it? Nope! I've checked everywhere, except that's a lie since I couldn't find it; I haven't checked the one place it is. Oh well --- I'll talk about it. But where the heck could it be? I swear I had two jackets set aside because ...

Sorting sewing supplies continues from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

To my American friends - Happy Independence Day. Be strong!

Wow --- there were a lot of comments yesterday, and this overbuying and taking on too much is a very hot topic! While I appreciate the positive comments about my teaching, I knew the only way to discourage people from taking too many classes was to not offer so many classes. But that's good for me as well, so I'm OK with that.

Dare I say that I was at it again yesterday - sorting, pitching, and purging. But mostly sorting.

The third shelving unit in the stash room held a ...

Quilting UFOs from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

As I look back on when I started quilting, there are many things that I wish someone had told me. But there is one thing in particular I wish someone had drilled into me. I wish they had embarrassed me, harassed me, or taken whatever means to instill this message into my being. What is it?

NEVER, and I mean NEVER, take on more than you can do! I'm talking about UFOs.

Here's a piece of advice for any of you out there (not Elle, of course, as she's on top of it! and I'm darn ...

About those quilting UFOs....... from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

We all have them - UnFinished Objects that relate to our hobby of quilting. I have them, I have way too many of them, but I've been very fortunate to have room to hide them out of sight. But the UFO creep is hitting Studio B, and I need to do something about it. I have several places where I store my UFOs - in giant tubs under the long arm, two shelving units in the storage room where the community projects reside, three shelving units in the stash room, a closet in Studio B, a closet in one of the ...

Quilt Canada Day Two from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It was another insane day at Quilt Canada, but that's wonderful. It's so nice to see the enthusiasm and the pent-up excitement being released within the walls of Hall One! I have not been out of our booth much, and my head is swimming with ideas!

I did manage to get over to my concurrent show later in the afternoon, and I wish I could spend the entire show there, as it was exciting to see people's reactions to the show. My most profound appreciation to everyone who managed to get there to see the show, and ...

The saddle chair (stool) review and fixing camera woes from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Thanks for the tip on eliminating SO from my vocabulary. That's all good advice. I used those techniques to switch "hit" with touch or select. This, too, will happen, but until you are aware, you can't change a thing! It's like the quote from the other day.

Quote of the day

Self-awareness is crucial to self-improvement, but most of us are unaware of the little annoying things we do. Getting constructive criticism or someone to film you is key to fixing that. I understand that no one wants to watch themselves on video, but ignore how you ...

I love technology and I know how to make it work! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I can cross the Facebook Live event off the list! All the prep paid off, and the technology worked like a charm, except for that brand-new camera. I could NOT figure out how to focus. Guess what? I'm returning it and will buy the more expensive one. It was a cheap camera, and I understand it doesn't have the bells and whistles, but it was a hassle to set up. All the settings had to be reset each time I turned it on. I'm prepared to bite the bullet to have an idiotproof camera. The cheap one ...

Getting back to normal from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

YES --- I like SmartWool as well. I have one pair! When I first bought hiking socks, I bought several brands! It was just that I noticed the bottom disappearing slowly on the WrightSock!

My SmartWool sock

I just went to their website, and WOW—it's easy to pick what you want, as they have a checklist. It's very civilized. I signed up for the newsletter and got 15% off. I might be buying some new socks today!

I must check with my brother, as the socks he buys have a lifetime guarantee. They are more expensive, but they ...

Singing in the rain! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh --- another bonus about the TruEarth laundry strips—they are Canadian (Port Moody, BC). I remember seeing that on a website, but I forgot. Thanks for the reminder! I'm excited to give them a try!

I'm almost embarrassed to show you what I did for my 60-minute-or-less challenge, but as I said, it doesn't matter what you do, and if it takes only 60 seconds but gets done, that's perfectly OK. This item had been sitting near my computer in Studio B for months—probably close to a year. I finally tackled it yesterday.

I have ...

The Zen of tidying up! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I got one task out the door last night - well, not out the door, but it was completed, so that was good. I have one more urgent thing to work on today, but I need space to work before doing that. It was not just physical space; my brain needed to see some empty flat surfaces.

As I pulled out patterns or other needed items, the cutting mat had become the dumping ground. I took photos, and then everything got left. I'm happy to report that the mess on the one cutting mat is done, and I can cut ...
