Snowed in! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I have yet to go outside, but could we be snowed in? We had a lot of snow yesterday, but the retreat house is also on a hill, and the snow was blowing, so hopefully, it blew away from the yard and not into it!

We'll be out for our walk once it gets light, and then we'll see. This region is on the ball for road maintenance, so that won't be a problem, but we have to get from the house to the road. And if we don't get out for our walk until later ...

Had to shovel out the side door so it could open wide

Christmas Whited out from Art In Search

I live one block north of the Buffalo city line. Usually, the Lake Erie snowbands stay south of the city due to westerly winds. Because of a southwest storm, the wind came directly down the Lake and dumped itself for 2 days over my house and the surrounding area. Friday morning we had all green grass. At 7:30 am, the rain instantly turned to snow and heavy winds started (60-70 mph gusts). It stayed the same until 10:30 pm Saturday (Christmas Eve). On Christmas, the sun came out, but we were stuck and everything was closed. Then the ...

Fuzzy November Travels:) from Nestlings By Robin

Fuzzy doesn't have to mean the literal.
It can also mean all the feelings
we get by being around family
or people we love. It can include
nostalgic memories we get
to share or pass on.

This month we traveled north
to help our eldest with her new
home adventure (even though my
heart is broken they are so far away!!).
We drove through not one
bit of Autumn on our way
and then the house across the street
had this for me:)

There was lots of framing
out to be done and
I helped little man build
his ...

Snow and a marathon from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Or should I say a marathon of snow? Anyway, we had received a lot of snow, but not nearly what we got a couple of weeks ago. And it was a beautiful morning, so wonderful to see the snow, but not so wonderful to walk in it.

And I'm apologizing for this in advance -- no, I'm not. I'm mad! But here's another rant about the snow.

First, some pretty snow pictures.

This looks like a skunk. Just waddling along in front of the house. The day before, it was a rabbit. It's like we have ...

string candy from Making A Lather

We have had a winter snow storm that has been very beautiful.

I have cut for easy breezy, fish school, and the stashbuster 2022 in aqua/ teal for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I can sit and do that.

what color is this one? I wish it could make up it's mind

I only had enough energy and aqua to make 4 blocks this month for my candy quilt.

New Hat and More Snow from Thread Head

I finished knitting a hat this week.

The pattern is Musselburg by Ysolda Teague - a really enjoyable knit and perfect for any yarn. I knit it out of Touch Yarns Possum Silk Merino 4 ply, that I dyed. The yarn is beautiful and soft. The hat is so light and warm - like wearing a cloud. It is perfect for the weather we have been having!

Photos from Around-

There was another storm this week - high winds and blowing snow.
Someone got stuck in the driveway again.
The big girl likes to help with the digging out.
Luckily it wasn't ...

Zig zags and snowy days from Art In Search

The blue green zig zags is done, bound, etc. I could not resist photographing outside in the snow. When Alycia, with her wonderful Colorado ranch landscape, shows her quilts outdoors, I always drool. I live in a tight little suburban lot which is not exactly photogenic for quilts, but due to the almost 20" of snow that fell on MLK day, I gave it a try.  I also know how to crop out.

     How's that, Alycia?

Journal making!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

A quick note about the snow back home. So the neighbor at the end of the street had complained about the snow plowing or lack thereof in front of her house. The level of service was deplorable, to say the least. She had been told that the backhoe would be back yesterday morning to clear her out. The backhoe arrived around 8 PM last night.

And while he did a great job at her end of the street, this is what happened in our driveway. Are you kidding me?? We had ZERO snow for two days, and the backhoe found ...

Snowy Sunday from From the Strawberry Patch...

To no one's surprise we awakened to snow on Sunday morning, right on schedule and as forecast! A few hearty souls braved the elements to attend worship; all told, we ended up with about 4 inches before it turned over to sleet. Today we have crusty, icy snow remaining, the roads and driveway are still a mess. We've been warm and dry at home, I finished a book yesterday (will report on this month's

Fun with Snow Days from From My Carolina Home

Waking up on Sunday to a winter wonderland, the entire scene had a blue cast to it with heavy overcast skies in the weak dawn light. The snow was still falling as I took some photos, and it continued falling on and off all day. Big fat flakes alternated with tiny ones. It was freezing cold, and we hunkered down with the fireplace going and watched football games all day. Juncos were on the ground looking for anything falling out of the bird feeder, so My Sweet Babboo scattered some seed on the snow for them. They devoured the offering ...

Snowed in! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK -- today is going to be just about snow! We had a massive snowstorm yesterday and went from Winter watch to Heavy snowfall to Blizzard warnings on the weather app. Oh my -- whatever did we do before we had the weather app? OH -- we looked out the window or went outside to check the conditions!

I was optimistic when I woke up and saw the snow, but after about one hour, I realized that the snow was coming down hard and fast, and there was NO way we were going to hit the roads. Heck -- it took hours and hours ...

Battening Down from From the Strawberry Patch...

This is what happens when snow is predicted in the south; naturally there's the insanity that occurs as everyone runs for bread and milk at the grocery stores but, then, the conversation turns to anticipated snowfall amounts and, ultimately, how long folks expect to be stranded. I'm not too worried: we have firewood enough to last and I have an adequate supply of books and stitching projects

Feeding Cattle in the Western Oregon Snow.... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I haven't made it out to the Thread Shed

to get any stitching done...

We have been making our way through

all of this snow to get the cattle fed:

Frosty mornings on an open tractor.....brrrr

The Cowboy loads up the 1200 lb. hay bale

and I drive the pickup...

I drive while the Cowboy flakes the hay

off the back of the flat bed...

We have cattle at 5 different locations

so we will repeat this feeding process...

The cattle will move their way up this line of hay

munching all the way...

Just across the river ...

Merlin Plays Fetch & Other Breaking News from Where Art & Life Meet

Seriously, is this one of the most hilarious things ever? Merlin is SO clever! So Merlin, in addition to all of his other amusing and endearing characteristics, also plays fetch. He may be small, but he’s fierce! In the morning, but occasionally in the evening as well, he will bring me his “cork,” which is… Continue reading Merlin Plays Fetch & Other Breaking News

This, That, and Three Other Things... from From the Strawberry Patch...

While we were gone away this Moth Orchid which has lived as a foliage-only plant in our bathroom for the past few years sent up a flower stalk! I was shocked and amazed. Maybe we need to leave home more often! I don't do anything special except water it every week; once a month I sprinkle a few crystals of orchid food into the watering solution but that's it. I had NO  very little hope of it ever
