pumpkins and acorns . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

So far, so good!  I headed out Thursday, along with some of the other Essential staff wives, for a retreat/conference in Dallas, Georgia; Cultivate 2020.

It was a LOT of fun!  I love road trips in and of themselves, but this retreat was really intended to pamper and encourage the participants and a great job was done of it!

I mean, wow!  Our lunch Friday was served in high—tea time—style! Each of us got our own tiered tray, that then went home with us. We went home with a ton of swag, including the gorgeous (and yummy ...

Pin It Weekly #332 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

It's Weekly time! Here's hoping that you're having a fabulous week. I've been crafting. That's all. Crafting. And enjoying every minute. I thought I'd share some of the ideas that I've been toying with. I haven't made them all, but I'm hoping that the next week or so will see most of them complete.

I really want to paint a mason jar!

Who doesn't love wooden candy corn?!

And because I've gone a little crazy with the door hangers.

Hopefully I'll finish the door hangers that are waiting ...

happy wednesday . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I'm going to start with the big news, right off the bat . . .
One.  Hundred.  Days.

Can you believe it?!?  How much stitching do you have to do in order to be ready for it? That's the million dollar question, isn't it?  LOL!

Late Sunday afternoon I finally sat down to stitch, but got distracted by a new TeaTime Holidays magazine . . .
Yeah, more Christmas! Though the first tea party they share is a Thanksgiving one! It justified having the pumpkin blondie with my mug of pumpkin spice tea.

I combated Monday work blues by 'fallifying" my office space ...

weekend busy happies . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I'm going to tell you a true story . . .

I read a quote that caught my attention: "The secret to having everything, is believing you already do."

Immediately I thought of my current fabric stash and felt a little convicted. Then this verse of scripture popped into my head:  "Lord I believe; help my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24)

Then I ordered this . . .
To go with this . . .
Which it does, and very nicely, I might add.  The end.  No names were changed to protect the not-so-innocent.

Where do I go from that? It's been a very busy weekend! Of course ...

splashing into autumn . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Hey hey!  Just checking in before we head into the weekend.  We enjoyed a lovely, beautiful day on the lake on Monday.  The weather couldn't have been more cooperative.  We're at that time of the year where sometimes the water, at 85 degrees, is warmer than the air temp!
That means we spend LOTS of time in the water (because it's too cold to come out)!  The girls had a blast splashing and swimming. Edith even decided it was her day to jump off the boat into the water, multiple times.  She was a champ!  But we ...

sloooooow stitching . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Slow stitching is appropriate.  It feels like it took me *forever* to finish this piece, but finished it is!
I had to take some "staging" pics, too . . .
Heh. So I'm a stitcher, not a photographer. I think one of the reasons I took so much time is that this really was a new style of stitching for me. I'm still not sure if I'd choose to do it again. I like the dimensional aspect of it — but it's all big stitches with six strands of floss ... no delicate stitching for detail. Though I do love the ...

New pattern: Buffalo Check Autumn from Carried Away Quilting

If you’re a quilter, chances are you love buffalo check and gingham. These timeless fabrics exude a sense of warmth, comfort, and belonging. Buffalo check in particular has become a hot design trend, a contemporary classic. I’m excited to share a new quilt pattern with you today, one that pairs a buffalo check motif with oversized, modern pumpkins and bold, classic stars: Buffalo Check Autumn!

Buffalo Check Autumnfinishes at 72 1/2” x 84 1/2”. For your reference, in my photographs I have layered it atop a coverlet on a queen-sized bed. The quilt fits the ...

more utility (love) stitching . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Yes, I do have to qualify that utility stitching for my grands is definitely *love* stitching!  Ellie's 8-year-old "blankie" needed some attention.  Seriously, I should have taken a before pic! I reconstructed it for her, making it a quilt, of sorts . . .

Hopefully it will get her through (to adulthood)!  :)  It made her so very happy to get it back, my heart was happy too.

I am struggling with allergies again. I'm sniffling and sneezing and coughing ... the very thing people do NOT want to be around right now! So I'm self-quarantining. Add the fact that I'm ...

Grumpy Cat & Pumpkin baby quilt from Sew Fresh Quilts

This was only in the unquilted pile for a short while.
And now I am proud to announce a Grumpy Cat finish!

I quilted this up quick with my usual wavy lines using my walking foot. I chose a soft grey thread for on top and a weird beige for the bobbin - both to blend in with the backgrounds.

Yet another fresh dusting of snow made for the perfect backdrop.
But somehow makes this quilt a little less spooky.

"Grumpy Cat & Pumpkin" finished at 40" x 45".

If you are interested in making your own Grumpy Cat, you can find ...

the blahs . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Todd and I both kicked off Thanksgiving week with the crud.  He went to the doc on Monday; I went on Wednesday.  Luckily we had delayed our Thanksgiving celebration until Friday (to be able to celebrate with Joc and her family), but both of us left the doctor's office with antibiotics (among other meds), which meant by the time we celebrated, we both felt better, but still not great. It is what it is.  The two of us spent Thursday quietly.  We watched my one of my favorite Christmas movies . . .
The Homecoming.  It was the pilot for The Walton ...

beginnings and ends . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I love finishes!  This morning I can share not one, but TWO! Well, perhaps I should clarify. Not two completely finished, ready-to-put-up-and-enjoy-and-never-need-to-be-worked-on-again projects. But two projects on which I've finished the embroidery stitches! I wrapped up my pumpkin piece (by Crabapple Hill Studios):
I just love this sweet stitchery.  I love the character and variety of stitches and colors.  It was truly like painting a scene.  It's so yummy!

And I finished my teapot table topper . . .
I think the last time I shared anything on it, I was still whipping the hexies together! I finished the hexies up ...

a good deal . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

. . . of fun.  A good deal of weekend fun!

It was a lovely, busy weekend with lots of stitchy-crafy things going on.  On Thursday I was inspired at work to turn our 3D Popcorn Box die cut into these darling little favor boxes . . .
I used Christmas images (I printed seamless background images onto the cardstock), but these could be done for *any* holiday or themed event. They were fast and easy to put together, too -- a happy bonus.  I love it when I find a fun something!

I found just the thing I needed in my floss stash to finish up ...

Thanksgiving Ideas to Try Something New from From My Carolina Home

With the holiday coming next week, preparations here are well underway.  Decorating, cooking and sharing time with friends and family is the heart of the holiday.  With over five years of posts, sometimes it is good to revisit past posts with holiday ideas.  In looking back, I realized I’ve not done a post on stuffing/dressing.  I’ll have to get some good photos this year for one on the many variations I like to do. This one was made with sourdough bread, onions, bacon and mushrooms with sage and oregano, a recipe from Bon Appétit from at least ...

excessive stitches . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I've got a couple of different hand-work projects in progress right now.  Because I can't focus on just ONE thing.  No, I have to have THREE things (or more) going on simultaneously. LOL!

In yesterday's post I talked about a dream quilt (literally, a quilt I designed in my dreams).  I (day)dreamed up another little piece ... a hexie mat.  I'd done one years ago for my mom (the pattern for it was in a magazine, but I don't remember which one--I blogged about here in 2012!) . . .
But I ran across some really cute teapot ...

Autumn Jubilee Cooking – Pumpkin Tart from From My Carolina Home

Nothing says Autumn has arrived more than the aroma of something with pumpkin baking in the oven.  When I found a recipe in my Milk Street cookbook that combined pumpkin with bourbon, I had to try it.  Those who know me in real life know that I love to cook with bourbon, and sometimes I put it in the food (LOL, I know, old joke!!).  There is an alternative for those who don’t do alcohol.  Today, with permission, I will share this great recipe for a lighter Pumpkin Tart from Milk Street.  This is a wonderful alternative to the ...

Hexie Pumpkin Mug Rug
(this is the fourth or fifth I've made...but this one is for ME!)
A birthday means there's a giveaway in here somewhere. ;)

So when I signed on for this hop in July, I gave myself a couple of hours  several days  weeks  until five days ago to figure out what I wanted to make/share.  I love autumn and the less ghoulish elements of Halloween and I ...

Scrappy Pumpkin Quilt Block Tutorial from Goer

Welcome to my stop on Tutorial Week with Finish-a-Long. I'm sharing my process for using scraps to create pumpkin blocks.

Grab your orange (or yellow or white or whatever color you want your pumpkins to be) scraps. Depending on the size of your scraps and the size of your desired pumpkins you can use your scraps as is (which I've done with my single fabric pumpkins) or you can piece together your smaller scraps to form a scrappy slab (as shown in the large pumpkin) before constructing your pumpkin. You'll also want fabric for a stem and ...
