Retreat Finish (the second one) from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Before I show you my new finish, I thought I'd show you what is going on in the studio. It is not a happy sight, is it? Ahh, that's how it goes. Chances are that it's never going to embroider again.

Not that it has embroidered any for me anyway. Firstly, it made horrible stitches. Secondly, as we discovered today, the gizmo that holds the PC card is broken. So I have hundreds of designs that I can't use.

The news gets worse: I've invested more money in the machine than it's worth. Have ...

Retreat inspiration from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

My retreat sisters worked on a variety of quilts over the weekend. Oh my! What a beautiful array of works in progress. Here are the ones I was able to grab photos of before they were taken down to make room for more.

A Vase of Flowers ~~ another Richard finish from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

It seems that I'm reporting on Richard's great work rather than my own work. This finish is too pretty to not report.

So Richard decided to make a vase to put flowers on his dad's grave. He used some of the cypress wood that he recently acquired. It's beautiful, even without the flowers.

Each side is just a little different because of the wood grain, but every one also has a perfect little cross.

According to the guys the cypress wood won't deteriorate for many years, even though it's exposed to the elements while ...

Thread Cabinet ~~ Richard's Finish! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

My husband. My wonderful, loving husband. Forty years we've been husband and wife.

He's is one put-together guy and knows oh-so-many things. Sometimes I think he just knows all the things. I have no clue how he can know or understand all these concepts and mechanics and stuff.

He can fix a leaky pipe, cook a meal, cut down a tree, explain a football game. He can tell you how safe (or in danger) you are, how to fix just about anything mechanical, figure out interest rates, grow a garden to feed the neighbors. I've barely begun ...

I'll live! And I'm not so special, after all. from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

It got kinda dicey for a little while there, but somehow I seem to be pulling through. If you've been around at all lately, you may have noticed that I have not blogged for a couple of weeks.

You would also know that Richard's dad passed away. As we were caring for his parents, we had several weeks of difficulties, during which time I was sick. Then there was the week of the funeral and caring for Rich's mom. I was sick then, too. Sicker, actually.

You see, I had a GI hemorrhage. It ...

A what-not-to-do DIY ~~ finished from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Several years ago I salvaged a dresser mirror from certain death in a land fill. It was in perfect condition. Well, it was ugly. The mirror was dirty, but a spritz of cleaner proved it to be without scratches or other problems. The frame was  another thing. No amount of cleaning was going to make the brown, worn-out wood less ugly.

But I could see potential there. If only I could figure out where, how, when to  use it. I mean, I didn't really need a mirror, ugly or otherwise. So it got put in the studio, where ...

Monday, Wash Day! from From the Strawberry Patch...

You remember the old chore for each day-of-the-week philosophy adhered to by our grandmothers? It was so popular it was even stitched onto dishtowels. Monday is Wash Day. Well, maybe not here. Not today. Last week, also on Monday, our trusty washer konked out. Mr. Goodneedle quickly attended to the problem. Armed with tools to disassemble the machine and a volt-meter in hand to test electrical

Long-arm Surgery from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Ever wonder what the inside of a long-arm looks like? My Innova had a little exploratory surgery.

First you have to find a good-looking husband with a knack for fixing things and knowledge for solving problems.

So, there's Richard.

belts and gears in the backside

He took off all the covers except the one that hides the long-arm. Said it's just a metal rod and too much work just for a picture. Considering that I'd already knocked down his light source, I couldn't afford annoying him.

More Pincushions and a Project from Richard from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Before I write anything else, I want to apologize to everyone who has sent me an email, left a note here or messaged me in any way. I've had Milly on my hip for days now. Everyone is away at work or school or playing with friends, so that leaves Richard and me to babysit. All. The. Time.

She's even been sleeping here at night. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving having her, but a baby is work! And since she weighs 20 or so pounds, she's heavy work. She melts my heart, though, and ...

Storage in the Studio {scour and scrub} from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I've wanted to do a little cleaning in the studio for a while now. The problems of stuff piled and stacked in every inch of real estate overwhelms me. Additionally, there are things that simply do not belong in the studio. Period.

The new cabinet the middle part
with drawers is what we started with.

I started working on the problems a few weeks ago when I asked Richard to help me. Now, Richard is one of those people who is patient and loving and truly wants to help. Now. Right NOW.

After painting, there's lots of storage ...

This Guy from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

This one right here. He's my guy and I love him more than I can say. But he loves me more. Hands down. No competition. Here's how I know.

He's helping me make yoyos. Who does that? Who makes yoyos for no reason except...no really, no reason. The answer is this guy. He's the one.

Did I tell you about the Great Yoyo Race that my guild is having? Everyone makes yoyos and brings them to the meetings and someone (whomever has the most) wins half the yoyos at that meeting.

I'd like to ...
