... and another squirrel! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Yes, I did it ..... started another project.  You would think that squirrels hibernate during winter ..... but no, they do not and they stopped by and had a few chats with me!  LOL

It all started with cleaning out some piles of fabrics and papers and that is when I saw this pattern and knew that it just had to be made.

What got me started on this squirrel was a need for a couple more small wall quilts to go with my February red/neutral quilts.  My bins of red fabrics and my neutral/red fabrics were a tad overflowing ...

Gingham Swirls from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Oh my, how I enjoyed designing and making this quilt.  After doodling around on EQ7, that wavy border just had to be made and something EPP would make this a perfect take-along project.

So, the project got started and slowly but surely, this quilt came to be.

This project was supposed to be for our day guild celebration of Canada's 150th birthday.  The stipulation was that only red and white fabrics could be used.  We could use tone-on-tone reds, red with white and white tone-on-tone and white with red fabrics.  Well, try and find all fabrics with just red ...

A Lovely Parting Gift from The Snarky Quilter

It’s hard to say goodbye to a friend who is moving many hours away. I know, it could be much further away, with visits possible only by cross country or ocean trek. Still, the easy spontaneity of living a mere 20 minutes from each other will be gone.

Since we are both arty types of course we gave each other handmade farewell gifts. I created (with the help of Shutterfly) a book of my friend’s photos she had shared with me. In return she created a mixed media piece she called “Expecting to Fly.”

“Expecting to Fly”

And ...

Friendship Throw Quilt in Frankie! from Busy Hands Quilts

Today I'm sharing a mockup of the Friendship quilt pattern in a brand-new fabric collection called Frankie by Basic Grey for Moda Fabrics.  This beautiful fabric collection is a great example of making Friendship as a scrappy quilt rather than using five fabrics as the pattern is written.

Friendship is a log cabin quilt pattern that includes Throw, Twin XL, and Queen sizes.

The Friendship quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.

The Frankie fabric collection is available at Green Fairy Quilts right here, Fat Quarter Shop right here, and Etsy right here.

A Very Old WIP & and Squirrel from Needle and Foot

Since my shop closed, I have been working hard to take all of my sewing supplies out of the guest room and downstairs to the shop area. I want to have a ‘real’ guest room and since we have family coming for Thanksgiving, now is the time to finish this project. As it goes, I found lots of forgotten projects while cleaning out the guest/sewing room. One was a scrappy rag rug I knit back in 2016. I loved this little project but didn’t know what to do about the knots where I joined the strips when I ...

Friendship Throw Quilt - Throw Size in Moda Grunge! from Busy Hands Quilts

I have a Throw size Friendship quilt to share today!  I'm excited to get this one posted on the blog because it's made with one of my favorite blocks in my favorite color!

The Friendship quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.

Three Sizes!

The Friendship quilt pattern includes three sizes - Throw, Twin XL, and Queen.  The Baby and King didn't work out mathematically while preserving the symmetry of the design.

The Queen size Friendship quilt I made can be seen in this blog post over here.

Red Heart Quilt for My Friend from Tea Rose Home

A few months ago, I found out that one of my dear friends for over 23 years was going to have open heart surgery in August. I wanted to do something special for her and pretty much immediately, an idea to make a heart quilt came to my mind. I talked to our mutual friends about the idea and they were all on board.

When I went through breast cancer three years ago, I was gifted with a special pink heart quilt from a talented group of friends. I was so surprised and touched with everyone's generosity and every ...

Friendship Queen Quilt Kit in Abalone Batiks! from Busy Hands Quilts

My Friendship quilt pattern has been kitted in the Queen size by Connecting Threads in their brand-new Albalone Batiks fabric collection!

The Friendship quilt pattern includes three sizes - Throw, Twin XL, and Queen - because those are the only sizes that worked out mathematically to actual quilt sizes while preserving the design, mostly because the design requires symmetry.  The design is a tad different in each of the three sizes.

The Abalone Batiks fabric collection is a beautiful collection of purples, blues, and greens.  You can see the entire collection ...

The Magic of an Encounter from Where Art & Life Meet

The most magical times in my life have been those moments when I met someone and the connection was instantaneous or they did or said something that was particularly moving and memorable. Likewise there have been places that felt magical, like some sort of spiritual vortex, inexplicable, yet utterly unique and beautiful. And there are… Continue reading The Magic of an Encounter

INCONTRARSI...CHE BELLO from appunti patch

Courage is not the Absence of Fear… from Where Art & Life Meet

I’m not sleeping much these days. The up-side is I’m getting a ton of stuff done. Also, photographs of empty New York City streets, though eerie, have a certain grace to them. I only venture out every few days, but when I do, I’m struck by the same things: the exquisite beauty of New York… Continue reading Courage is not the Absence of Fear…

WHY DO YOU QUILT? from That's Sew Kerry

A Question Often Asked

I've had this post rattling around in my head for a while, something has always stopped me writing it, I'm not sure what really but now in the midst of 'isewlation' due to this horrid Coronavirus outbreak it seems like a good time to finally get it out. For those of you that have read the dreaded 'C' word and immediately got put off - it is the only time it appears here.

What on earth are you doing? What's the point in cutting up perfectly good pieces of fabric into smaller ...

THANK YOU, SUE!

What would we do without friends
that think of us when we least expect it?
It would be a lonely, sad world indeed!
