Way back in July of 2019, I attended a quilt retreat in Baton Rouge with other members of the BRMQG. After I got home, I finished up the top and added it to the bin. A couple of weeks ago I dug through the bin and chose this top to quilt.

  I don't like to call any of my quilt UFOs. That implies that I have no intention of getting back to them. This quilt, however, was at the very bottom of the bin. And has been there for a while. Okay. Years. I don't know how many years, okay. Just a long while.

 Hello everyone! Here we are at yet another week in 2020. I can't believe this year isn't over yet, and at the same time, September is racing by. Our temperatures dropped into the 40s overnight the last couple of nights, and the hubs finally broke down and let me turn on the heat. Hard to imagine, but true!

 Hello everyone! Well, the first week of school is in the books, and it went pretty well, if I do say so myself. The students seem pretty much up for Zooming, and they actually showed up for class, so it's looking good so far. This is a huge relief, and I feel so much better now that the first week is behind me. The planning takes a long time, but it certainly pays off. My only trouble right now is getting library materials, but they are reopening on Monday, so that may just work itself out as well. Yahoo ...

Hello everyone! How are you all doing? Hanging in there?  I ventured out into the previously-closed world once this week, and it was odd.  There are a lot of empty shelves at Target, folks.  Thankfully, Mr. Academic Quilter now has a replenished supply of essential snacks, so it looks like we may be good for a while. I did go to a farmer's market, too, which was a very happy experience. Tomatoes that taste like tomatoes!

Hello everyone! How is life going for you? For me, some of the burnout from the past couple of months of overwork has begun to ease, and I'm finally starting to feel normal again. An uneasy normal, but much more like myself. I was in the sewing room cleaning some things up this weekend, and I sat down and sewed and actually enjoyed it. I'm definitely on my way back!

My favorite kind of green. The poppies came with the house 30 years ago, and they bring joy every year. We used to call the purple flower sweet william, but, we found out we were wrong, but, now, I can't remember the real name. They pop up wherever they want and smell so good.

Hi all! I really didn't fall off the earth, I promise! The worst semester ever finally ended, and since I turned in the final grades I've just kind of been floating a bit. Feeling a little unmoored without 10 to 12 hours of work to do, ya know? And I wouldn't want to insult anyone who has actual PTSD, but it's felt a little like PTSD, if you know what I mean. So I've just been kind of disjointed, petting some fabric, cleaning some things, planting a few flowers. It's been kind of peaceful ...

I dug and found these little bits of green for wonky tiny stars, but didn't get them made. I don't even remember what distracted me.

I have been gifted a big box of  3 inch scrappy squares. I opened the box and did a happy dance. Imagine the possibilities and the hours of endless fun. Not to worry, I took their temperature and they are healthy.

I started these blocks in January from a scrap bundle and an idea I saw on the internet. I worked on them for awhile and then, it came time to decide on a setting and how many I would need. This is where it stalled. At first, I thought I would just make as many blocks as I had scraps, but it is impossible to ever use all the scraps. They just kept reproducing. I stopped at 40, and, tried a few arrangements.

My 2 1/2 inch square bin in green has been depleted. yay. I was left with  just a bit of olive green or lighter green. I decided I would cut more squares in the olive green category for last month's rainbow challenge scraptastic stars. I completely forgot this block for my rainbow scrap quilts.

I used an accuquilt die to cut drunkards path for the row by row quilt. I thought it would be easier to use the whole die in both green and white rather than cut individual pieces for the parts. The pattern calls for another row of green later, so, I can use the reverse with the leftovers from cutting this way.

Hi everyone, and happy Saturday! It's pouring rain right now, but I don't even care because the week is over.  That was a rough one for sure. But now it's over, and on we go.

I did spend a little stitching time this week working with some of the many, many bright green scraps that I have. I love this color and I have lots of bits of it. Here is what I made, but there's a story along with it:

I did have to read, and reread, the instructions for making this quilt, Shine. It is a free pattern at moda bakeshop. I couldn't tell where the cut pieces matched the intended block.  It calls for a different white in one corner of the 9 patch, and, I wasn't sure it would matter, using my fabrics instead of the ones in the pattern. I made a trip to Joann, and a shiny white was a remnant, so I used that for the "special " corner.

I took this project to retreat with me last week. I made another 10 blocks and trimmed all 24 to 8 inches.
The plan is to make until I run out of  the scrap fabric. But, I am getting anxious to see what I want to do with it. I like this layout so far.

Last week, I made most of my goals. yay me. I made better progress with the retreat last week.

I am at day 2 of my quilt retreat, and, I have been getting stuff done that I can share next week.
As part of the rainbow scrap challenge, I have been working on a row by row quilt. January and green is the color of the drunkard's path block.
I have them all cut and several ready to sew together, but it does take some time.

I found another scrap bag, during a new year push to clean the sewing area. It was a wonderful assortment of brights. I decided to start right away with an improv block that I liked on the internet. It was green and the rainbow color for January is green. I was hoping to use the scraps until they were gone, but it might take longer than I thought.
