The world's oldest known bird, an Albatross named Wisdom, has returned to her southern nesting site for the 2025- 2026 breeding season. She is 75 years old at least now; this is an older video below. She had the same mate for 60 years but she is back this year with a new one. What a wonder!

read moreAfter months of keeping this pattern close to my heart, I’m thrilled to finally share Drift—my newest quilt pattern. That’s right! It’s the Drift quilt pattern release day—scratch that, week. I have lots of fun things planned. The main thing? I am intertwining it with QuiltCon!

The Drift Quilt Pattern
For years, I have been intimidated by curves. I have made blocks that use them here and there, but I was lost when I tried to write a pattern incorporating the technique. This was especially true for an orange peel quilt I attempted to design ...
read moreWhen I was at retreat, my main project was to complete the design and assemble the quilt using the small bird panels. When I packed this up a couple of months ago, I had the jelly roll picked out and the main design idea. Here’s where I left off in April.

Before retreat, I decided to make this a mixed technique quilt and add some embroidery. So I got out my rayon threads, found some bird designs and stitched out three.

I changed the colors a bit, making the birds more true to life. Here, I made this one ...
read moreWe are thrilled to have had such a great response to our Blue Jar Medley offering, Nesting Nuthatch! If you have followed us for any length of time, you will know that birds of all kinds are near and dear to our hearts. I (Kara) particularly love the nuthatch, as it was one of my Grandmother's favorite birds.

I just finished updating one of the first three patterns I wrote. The Golden Hen pattern that I originally created as a baby rattle is now available as a pincushion. Oh my goodness, it feels so good to get something off of my list of things to do!! I love these hens and they are so much fun to make. I am literally smiling the whole time I make them because they are so stinking cute. Here at Casa de DEMOO, I am working on a flock of them. I will be listing them as finished goods in my Etsy ...

We celebrated my nieces graduation a couple weekends ago. The tables were decorated with vases of wildflowers freshly picked that morning. It was such a beautiful detail and I was smitten with the yellow flowers which my sis told me were gray headed coneflowers.
These lovely flowers were the inspiration for my new Goldfinch design. I dug thru my fabric and found the perfect shades of fabric to complete my design and I bet you have fabric that will work for this sweet appliqué design too!

Thirsty, Busy, Romantic Visitors
June seems to be nesting season at Arkaroola. There are lots of pairs of birds around, and I’ve even been seeing a few different species collecting nesting materials. A Little Crow went past my lounge room window on the weekend with several large sticks in its beak. The Mallee Ringneck Parrots seem to be collecting moss or lichen from my roof. And all the lads have started trying to impress their dinner dates by bringing them to the very exclusive Chameleon’s freshwater café and bar.
The nights here have become very cold recently, which ...

The Soul of the Party at Love with a Twist…..

You know that intolerable squeaky noise that balloons make when they are twisted and folded into shapes? Well, did you know, that’s actually the trapped soul of a departed parrot? The screeching balloon is passing on the parrot’s desire to party one last time before he heads off to wreak havoc in the afterlife. True! read more

Hello there!
Another recent card make to share today, this time for a friend who turns 50 this year (and for once, I'm not late with this card - whoot!).
Technically this is a scrap-lift of a card design a did a few years ago but I loved the way it worked out so just went with it. I used up some older October Afternoon Cakewalk papers and paired them with some Pebbles chipboards and stickers from the From Me to You and a Valentine's collections. How adorable is that little bird? And of course a 50th birthday needs ... read more
