Nesting Nuthatch from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

We are thrilled to have had such a great response to our Blue Jar Medley offering, Nesting Nuthatch! If you have followed us for any length of time, you will know that birds of all kinds are near and dear to our hearts. I (Kara) particularly love the nuthatch, as it was one of my Grandmother's favorite birds.

There are a few new techniques in this block—none of which are difficult, but we thought we would show some more detailed pictures for some of those techniques. Let's show you the nest according to your pattern directions.

The ...

Kindness Quilt: A gift for a new little blessing from Carried Away Quilting

In 2020 I joined a mystery sew along hosted by Sweet Treasures Quilts called the Kindness Project. The goal was to make a quilt and gift it to someone affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. I finished my quilt top and then tucked it away . . . pondering who to gift it to.  I knew the answer would come to my heart, and it did.

I am taking a little license with my choice, but I think you will understand why.  It goes without saying that 2020 was a difficult, sad and challenging year for so many people. But one miraculous blessing came ...

The Kindness Project: Mystery quilt top is complete from Carried Away Quilting

This past weekend, I enjoyed time outdoors in the sunshine with my family. The weather was nice enough to complete some spring yard work and talk to the neighbors . . . from a safe social distance of course. I also found just enough time at the sewing machine to finish my quilt top for The Kindness Project.

If you had time to read my earlier posts, you'll know that The Kindness Project was a mystery quilt sew-along hosted by Sweet Treasures Quilts. The goal was to sew a quilt to gift to someone affected by the COVID-19 outbreak or someone who ...

The Kindness Project: A mystery quilt sew along (Day 3) from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! I'm back sharing my progress on The Kindness Project, a mystery quilt sew-along hosted by Sweet Treasures Quilts. Today is Sew Day 3, a super fun sewing day where we put together two large blocks. My blocks are nearly identical, so I've just shown one in this photo.

All of the information (fabric selection, fabric requirements, block instructions) for this mystery sew along is available through social media on the Sweet Treasures Facebook page and the Sweet Treasures Instagram feed.  Please check out those links, as shop owner Terri was kind enough to offer some ...

The Kindness Project: A mystery quilt sew along (Days 1 & 2) from Carried Away Quilting

Earlier this week I introduced you to The Kindness Project, a mystery quilt sew-along hosted by Sweet Treasures Quilts. The goal is for us each to sew a lap quilt which we gift to someone else . . . someone who has been affected by COVID-19, or maybe someone who has served as a hero during this crisis. (Check out my earlier post for all the details.)

Sweet Treasures Quilts released the Day 1 block instructions yesterday and the Day 2 block instructions today.  So I'm popping in to show you my progress. I've also included the Sweet Treasures Quilts instruction ...

Kindness Project: a mystery quilt sew along with Sweet Treasures Quilts from Carried Away Quilting

In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, many of us are turning to sewing as mental health therapy. If we are in a stay-home/stay-safe situation, it’s a great way to keep our minds and hands busy. It’s also a great time to sew service projects.

Terri Staats, shop owner of Sweet Treasures Quilts in Keizer, OR, has come up with a wonderful idea: The Kindness Project, a mystery quilt sew-along in which we all sew a lap quilt that we will gift to someone else! The recipient could be someone who has been hit hard by COVID-19 ...

If you’ve been following along, you know that I’m sewing from my stash. The pink, blue and green prints are from Lella Boutique’s Nest collection, while the background fabric is from Corey Yoder’s Strawberry Jam collection. Here are my December blocks.

Summer Moon QAL: November Blocks from Carried Away Quilting

An early cold front has settled over my home state of Minnesota, and we even experienced some light snow this weekend. Rather than venture outside, I did a whole lot of sewing. I even stitched up my November blocks for the Summer Moon Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop. I added a warm, sunny yellow print to each block ~ take that Mother Nature!

This month’s assignment includes these three blocks: Four X’s, Log Cabin and Memory. I’m sewing from my stash using a mix of prints by Lella Boutique and Corey Yoder. In these three blocks, the ...

Summer Moon QAL: October Blocks from Carried Away Quilting

This past weekend I stitched up my October blocks for the Summer Moon Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop. This month’s assignment includes three pretty blocks: Checkerboard, Darting Birds and Nonsense. I’m sewing from my stash, and my blocks feature a mix of prints by Lella Boutique and Corey Yoder, who are two of my favorite Moda designers.

I went rogue and broke the rules on the Checkerboard block, but I had a good reason. I wanted to use the alphabet script from Corey’s Yoder’s Strawberry Jam collection as my neutral for this block. The problem ...
