I enjoy thrift stores for many reasons, but, while I always check the fabric section, I rarely find anything that suits me.
But today…
WOW! I am so pleased: 14-1/2 yards for $1.60/yard.
Can’t beat that. I see a quilt kit, backs for a twin donation quilt and three baby quilts, and red dots (because a person can always use red dots). YAY!
read moreWe had a great garage sale at our guild meeting. I sold 20 yards of fabric, and, probably bought more than that. One of our guild members was 97, and, just moved into an assisted living center. She gave us all that was left of her fabric. It is a pleasure to have some of her fabric in my stash. But, she kept her sewing machine and some supplies. you go girl. I bought a 2 gallon bag of fabric that I could fill myself at the sale. I concentrated on whites/creams.
I found another batch of neutrals hidden in a box. geesh I did cut several shirt quilts awhile back that will need a background. I expect I will start mass cutting those soon. But, I am not sure why the fabric plays hide and seek in boxes.

I am adding purple, orange and yellow to my stash in anticipation of a projects I want to make. I have a much smaller stash of these colors. I noticed my green scrap drawer is almost impossible to close. I am guessing, I will start a green project soon to use the scraps. It is, after all, a see saw balance of adding and subtracting fabrics. Next week, our guild is having a garage sale. All bets are off, when shopping there - anything could jump into my bag. haha

Over time, I have made my comfort quilts bigger so that they cover a person and can be tucked under the feet and chin. This means I need more backing fabric. You all know what the price of fabric has done. So, on a recent May trip to Berlin, Ohio- Amish country- I made stopping at Zinck's a priority. Over the winter, they had big wind and storm damage and redid a lot of the store in a good way. The day I was there, they had their considerable flat folds a dollar off a yard if you bought ...

I couldn't resist a mystery selvedge bundle from missourri star. I was not disappointed. It was so fun to see all the goodies. I think most of them are at least 1 1/2 inch wide.

While cleaning my room, I found an unopened box from missourri star quilts. In it were a few neutrals and a fat quarter bundle of kaffe fabric. In my defense, I used to know it was there. I don't need the kaffe until the end of the rainbow scrap challenge year for my lucky stars quilt. So, I didn't hurry to open it. But, then,.... I forgot it. Such a lovely surprise to find while cleaning. No one likes to clean, maybe all quilters need to hide fun surprises in the mess to make it more fun. I ...

I finally resumed working on Pat Sloan’s Traffic Jam pattern. I have it going as a leader and ender project. I’d sewn quite a few pieces together that needed pressed. I think there’s enough sewn to start assembling blocks.
These pieces won’t make enough blocks for the whole quilt, but it will satisfy my curiosity as to how the blocks will look.

I recently saw some lovely hand dyed shibori fabrics and was immediately in "lust" with them. It reminded me that I my "someday" list had "try making shibori fabric with fabric paint rather than dye." Needless to say, it had been on the list for some time, and I said "Okay, today is the day." Of course that extended to two or three days of experimentation.
One of the things I have discovered when doing block drives, is I need to be very prepared with materials prior to the start of each event. So when Connecting Threads had their last sale, I did a bit of shopping (Thanks to a few donations to my blog and some affiliate purchases.)
Happy Mother's day
My, my feelings have changed over the years. When I was in grade school, we wrote little essays to someplace that would pick the Mother of the year. I was sure mine would win, until, I was a teenager, then, I thought she should go to Mom jail. Then, I was a new Mom and so excited. I have been in Mom jail myself many times. Now, I just hope for a candy bar passed out at church.

Yesterday was Earth Day. One of the companies here in town celebrates that by hosting a clean up party where you can dispose of some chemicals (oil based paints, fertilizers, pesticides etc), electronics and old appliances. I spent my decluttering efforts this week in the garage (old paints and finishes) plus the attic and office (old electronics). It was nice to remove a carload of items from the house. But boy I've been paying for it, my thighs still haven't forgiven me for the stair steps it took to get the stuff out of the attic. My reward ...
