Paris. Maybe. One day? from Sunburnt Quilts

No. I am not lucky enough to be in Paris, but I have been using a lovely fabric range called Dance in Paris by Brigitte Heitland. She has designed a pattern for Zen Chic named Spring In Paris.

I have followed her design almost to the letter. This is my version.

It is about 60 inches square. The pattern only required a Fat 1/8 pack of the range and I still have plenty left. It goes together in rows of triangles that then match up into hexagons.

As you can see, the colours graduate from lightest to darkest going ...

Many Colours. from Sunburnt Quilts

While it has been cold outside, I have made the most of having my Harbour Blanket on my lap so I could finish the borders.

This is a design from Attic 24.

It is quite large. This is a double bed.

I had a laugh when I saw this photo. The edges look so uneven. I can assure you that is due to the doona underneath.

Here are the edges.

I didn’t have enough to go all the way round in one color, so I used one colour for top and bottom and then another colour for the sides ...

Free Patterns, Colour Talk, Embroidery Stitch Along from Canadian Needle Nana

We are deep in winter,  a time here for the fleece wear and flannel and staying cosy by the fire. Not a problem for us retirees. I just got out my winter coffee table runner that I sewed a couple of years ago.  Kathy Schmitz Snowbound fabric and EPP hexagons.
It's been through the wash a couple of times and has a nice crinkly feel to it. I mentioned at the time that I certainly would be stitching hexagons again and someone recommended this little tool below.  So I bought one on Amazon but haven't used it yet ...

Free Patterns, Renewed Interest in an Old Project from Canadian Needle Nana

It's all about the weather again here in south eastern Ontario. Weather does not know borders, LOL. It's a good thing I love the snow, with the caveat that I don't have to drive in it.

It started snowing yesterday mid day and is still snowing. Looking out my kitchen window this morning. Everything swaddled in a fresh blanket of white.
Ned and I ventured out for our early morning walk and didn't get too far. We wound up walking just the laneway and even then the going was tough.  I know it's hard for ...

Friendship Star Blocks, Manly Quilt Talk, Six Quilt Trends, Artist's Gift from Canadian Needle Nana

It was a beautiful weekend here in our corner of Ontario with windows open and a little wind making the leaves dance about on our walks. Our kindest of autumns is continuing it seems. I had already moved our winter outerwear upstairs and some of the lighter clothes to the basement closet. I've had to go down and bring it back up. Just don't need a parka when it is 15C + outside. Meanwhile, several Canadian provinces out west have had a number of snowfalls, as have some of my American blogging buddies far to the south of us ...

Thursday's Three Free, Rare Moth, Tasty Meal, EPP Pyramids, Loving Labradors from Canadian Needle Nana

I took this photo a couple of weeks ago in August when the fall Asters just began to bloom. If it is the Yellow Wooly Bear Moth, I would be delighted as I have seen a couple of the pretty yellow caterpillars around the property like this one I photographed in 2019.
I watched the moth forever, fascinated with its furry like long legs and overall ghostly appearance.

Wendy at  Pieceful Thoughtsthis post shared a link to a slow cooker sausage and shrimp boil recipe that sounded delicious. I made my own version and this is the leftovers...shrimp ...

Dog Days of August, Geometry in Quilting, Lori Holt's "Stitch" from Canadian Needle Nana

Enjoying the free buffet are these three Chipping Sparrows. I've begun including small seeds with the sunflower and that has attracted more sparrows this summer.

The three dogs are enjoying their summer days together. The vernal pond is back to nearly its full level and of course, being Labradors, they love the water. They enjoy watching and trying to chase the odd frog but luckily have never caught one.

This was the indoor/now outdoor Geraniums at their glory. I was so happy with this colourful display.  Geraniums never disappoint!
Here is a block of the Wheel Within A ...

Three Free Patterns, Orange in the Garden and in Reds, Pigeon's Rare Visit from Canadian Needle Nana

Day lilies are all in bloom. So many striking colours it's hard to choose one to show you. But this orange is so bright it's like a blinding orange is what I'm calling it. Reminiscent of the poppies I shared last month.
Here is a visitor we had for one day last week. Have never seen a Rock Dove (Pigeon) here before. It was of interest to see he was sporting bands on both legs and they were different. Wouldn't it be interesting to know this fellow's history!
Ned enjoyed keeping a close eye on ...

Yarning Away. from Sunburnt Quilts

Lots of little yarn projects have been worked on and some have even been completed.

This little doll is a pattern from Mary Jane’s Tearoom and is called simply a Little Yarn Doll.

A lovely pattern to follow and lots of variations included.

I have kept to the basics for the first one, giving her a removable hat and skirt. I may get a little more adventurous when I knit another one.

The yarn theme continues with these two beanies. They are crocheted from a You Tube pattern called Easy Breezy Beanies. There are 5 different patterns for different ...

Easter, Yay! from Sunburnt Quilts

We are having a gorgeous Easter long weekend with beautiful sunny days. Even the resident magpie family agree and have been out and about checking out the Autumn foliage.

Easter decorating has been happening and there are a couple of new additions.

A little crochet bunny.

And a new hoop embroidery.

This is a Kathy Schmitz design that I was lucky enough to receive from Marina. ( Thanks, again, Marina.)

I reduced the size so that it would fit a hoop.It is ready to hang on the wall.

I found this cute little paper tree that I was planning to ...

Eight Everyday Tiny Wonders from Canadian Needle Nana

I didn't look far to find things to be grateful for and happy about this week. Here is my list.

When I got to the bottom of my bowl of oatmeal and saw a beautiful cardinal...The relief I felt when I found the pom pom Neddy chewed off my woolen cap-  after I thought he ate it!

When I saw this beautiful painting and it stopped me in my tracks because back when I was trying to paint I thought my desire to outline things was only for cartooning. And I do love tulip shapes in paintings, drawings ...

Wordle, Gail's Jewel Box, Wooliest Pin Cushion, New CAL, A Show to Watch from Canadian Needle Nana

I have a bunch of stuff to share in this post.

Have you heard of Wordle?  My sister alerted me to this new word game that folks have gone wild for. One puzzle is released each day and I won't talk about the details here; if interested you can read them yourself. The creator does not want to make money off it so it isn't an app. I think. Doesn't take long to do; I like it. If you try it, let us know what you think.

One puzzle a day found here at Power Language UK ...

Yuletide Blanket, Creative Plans, Boys In Trees, Neddy Antics from Canadian Needle Nana

I really liked the contrast in the two colours above...the somewhat strange shade of yellow leaf that just happened to be sitting atop the vivid green mossy stump.

Creative Plans.  While 2021 was my year of fitness, I'm hoping 2022 will have a more creative focus. I have loads of ideas including, of course, my stitching and photography. I've also been reading about creativity including how creative minds work, in hopes of getting some tips, LOL. Of course, there is a lot on the internet, but it's also great to be back inside libraries once again ...

Too Much Cuteness. from Sunburnt Quilts

I just had to finish off that koala I was knitting. But it didn’t stop with one. A bit like eating potato chips. So I ended up with three.

They are lovely to make – a little bit fiddly, but worth it. The hardest part was the faces and I am sure that they will get better the more I make.

It is a pattern by Little Cotton Rabbits and is available as a PDF. I am experimenting with yarns ( 8 and 10 ply) and needle sizes. It looks like both wool thicknesses work well as long as I use ...

Comforts and Small Joys to Pass a Canadian Winter in Isolation from Canadian Needle Nana

We had a wolf moon last week- the first full moon of a new year. Early morning stepping onto the front veranda for wood I was surprised by how it looked so brilliant and illuminated the landscape.  This photo taken around 7:30 am. and look at those colours...cobalt? purples?  What colour(s) do you see|?

I am toting a lot of wood these days, part of the routine here in winter.  I'm pleased my joints aren't creaking though I think my arms may be an inch or two longer by the end of the winter. Never ...

Turkey Photos, Winter's Palette, Fans Applique, Homemade Bagels from Canadian Needle Nana

In honour of my American friends celebrating their Thanksgiving-

Turkeys- live ones. They trot through from time to time, no rhyme or reason for their visits.

I love their feathers and sometimes pick up one around the property.
Such large bodies; such tiny heads!

I  watched the snow falling all day long yesterday. Out every window it was the same view. Evergreens laden with white and the snow flakes drifting down. Pretty but I realized how narrow the colour palette becomes in a Canadian winter. No pinks or yellows, or blues.  It's a beautiful one in its way with ...

Love Thy... from Charm About You

neighbour X work in progress X cross stitch X Aurifloss

My current cross stitch project for the year is coming along well, there's been a little bit of unpicking but that is most often the result of late night stitching. The pattern is Love Thy Neighbour by Modern Folk Embroidery and I started stitching it as part of Jacob's Summer Stitch A Long. Summer may be nearly over but I am in no rush to finish. The original pattern is stitched in one colour but like my last finished cross stitch I enjoy making it my own and ...

Thrift Store Scores, Natures Pinks/Violets, Dreamy Hearts Quilt, Bathing Birds from Canadian Needle Nana

This is a close up of phlox.  A few bunches are here and there all over the garden. There is white as well but not nearly as showy. It was an excellent year for phlox and it did well despite the July heat and drought. Another wonderful perennial for a little further back in a flower bed.

I was struck while out and about by how much violet/pink is represented in an autumn time garden. Here is a smattering.

The sedum which is coming into bloom. There are two kinds here.

This bull thistle

Still prized by a few ...

Pink And Green Bricks. from Sunburnt Quilts

Before I jump into showing the quilt, I want to let you know that the winners of the Blog Hop have been selected. I have contacted both recipients and their patterns are on the way. Congratulations to Marilyn in Utah and Maureen in Ontario. And thanks you to all who joined in the hop and left comments. Greatly appreciated.

Now for the quilt. This started off with a very small fabric bundle of pink, green and white. All with spots. I decided I wanted a decent sized quilt so needed more fabric. I was a little shocked to discover I ...

Clam Shells And Wool Flowers. from Sunburnt Quilts

My wool flowers and clam shell piece has made it to the finish line.

It has ended up as quite a big larger that I thought – 48 X 21 inches. It is a Wendy Williams pattern designed as a table runner but I will use mine as a wall hanging. It is from her book called Wild Blooms and Colourful Creatures.

I have used wool felt and cotton fabrics.

Most of the threads are variegated from Sue Spargo.

I kept the quilting simple with meandering between the flowers and straight lines through the borders.

I found a backing in my ...
