How to Sew Box Corners (3 Easy Methods for Bags and Pouches) from Patchwork Posse

Ever made a bag that just won’t stand up the way you want it to? That’s usually where box corners come in. This simple sewing technique is what gives bags, pouches, and bins that flat bottom so they actually hold their shape and work the way they should.

The good news is there’s more than one way to do it—and none of them are hard. In this tutorial, you’ll learn 3 easy methods for sewing box corners, so you can pick the one that makes the most sense for how you like to sew. Once ...

Quilting Continues from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It looks like our weather might decide to warm up again. We're expecting warmer temperatures day by day, and we have a plan to plant our vegetable garden later this week. It's going to be a small garden this year. I'm sprouting zucchini and pickling cucumbers in the greenhouse at the moment. We'll also plant corn and green beans. You might remember our last garden when the critters bit the green beans off at ground level, killing every single plant. We have an idea about how to thwart those little gnawing bastards ...

Weekly update: spontaneous scrap stars from With Strings Attached

Warm on Friday, warmer on Saturday.   Clockwise: blue-eyed grass, skunk cabbage in full leaf, golden Alexander, field horsetail, star of Bethlehem (a garden escapee, very aggressive).

It was much cooler on Sunday and I took a nap instead of a walk.

# # # # #

Several months ago I made string X blocks into a flimsy and added a border.  I didn't like the border but it was the only fabric on hand that sort of worked and that I had in enough quantity.  I put the flimsy in the box and hoped I'd like the border better eventually.  It still didn ...

Sew'n Wild Oaks Updates from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

I've been good about posting on FG and Instagram, but not as good posting on my blog, the diary of my life.  Here's all of the happenings at Sew'n Wild Oaks over the past couple of weeks.

My sister is currently working on the binding for her Christmas Ribbons quilt which she made with Evelyn's Hope Chest fabric by Carrie Quinn for Marcus Fabrics. I'm having a sale in my Etsy shop for the digital download of Christmas Ribbons HERE.

Gail's version is just gorgeous and so precise!

My friend Sharon made ...

Weekend Walks & Quilting! from Quiltville's Quips & Snips!

Hooray for great weather and willing women eager to get out and get some steps in!

I tell you, though - we are going to have to start getting out just a bit earlier because all at once - it'ss too hot if we wait until 11am!

It's just a short walk. About 2 miles.  Up and back.

And every two weeks or so, I am amazed at the changes taking place.

Back to the Lupine and Laughter Mystery from Life In Pieces

My sewing room mojo was a bit sparse this last weekend.   I ended up reading most of Sunday afternoon. But I did finally make it up to the sewing room for a couple of hours before dinner.

Other than the 2025 Guild BOM, the Bonnie Hunter Lupine and Laughter Mystery  is the only quilt started last year or for that matter this year, that's not a finished quilt top.  I've been working on what Bonnie calls the alternate blocks.

Six blocks finished over the last couple of weeks. What looks like black is actually a very dark purple ...

Sewing machine from contemporary embroidery

The past couple of days have been spent on my sewing machine creating surfaces, paper and cloth as a base for hand embroidery.

The paper ones are much needed at the moment as I'm currently working on a few more of these.

Hand embroidery on these pieces is the next stage.

There will be lots of bullion and French knots along with buttonhole stitch edges and vintage fabric snippets.

One step forward and another item added to the to-do list! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Should I say "be careful what you wish for?" We went from winter to high summer overnight! Yesterday was a blistering hot day with lots of sun! What a change, and I think we have heat today and tomorrow, and then back to mid-teens! That's OK -- it's nice to walk around in shorts and sweat!

It was an interesting day, and for some reason, I decided it was important to spend time gardening, which was NOT on my to-do list. But that's OK. It's stuff that needed to be done.

First, let me give you an ...

Design Wall Monday - May 18 from My Sewing Room

My husband is deep into a couple of home improvement projects since he is 98% retired.  Did you catch my eye roll?  Anyway, contractors are scheduled to arrive this morning to begin the deck replacement.  I'm not ready for the noise and the mess, and I'm positive our little colony of feral cats are not ready for the noise. I'm moving their food dishes to the front porch. The biggest worry is moving the "cat house" to the porch - carefully because the little grey kitty had her kittens inside the canvas house on Sunday morning. We don ...

Cutting started.............. from Exuberant Color

Finally I found my 9.5" square to add to the 6.5" and 3.5" squares.  Since I'm beginning my cutting from 10" squares, I won't need the 12.5" square yet.

I'm just placing them on the design wall as I cut them and there are duplicates of some of them.  I'm realizing I could just come up with my own layout instead of following one in a Kaffe book.  I'll start looking through the pieces in the Kaffe large scrap box next.  Lastly I'll go to yardage to find more.

There ...

Design Wall Monday - May 18, 2026 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

 Good Morning Quilters!

We have a house guest for the summer, and she moved in yesterday.  For over two years we have befriended two international students attending Calvin University here in Grand Rapids.  They are Grace, who is from India, and Amy, who is from Bangladesh, and we lovingly call them “extra granddaughters”.  Amy was looking for housing for this summer between her junior and senior years of dorm living.  We asked her to come and live with us, and also help us a little as we are slowing down in our old age.  Amy is going to help me ...

Barbara Ana - Spring from Just Sew Sue

Having completed winter, I decided to finish Spring too. This is number 1 of our UFO challenge 2026but the number hasn't yet been called. As you can see I had made good progress already with Spring.

I did make a counting mistake on the bird on the right-hand side but decided that it didn't offend me, and I added an extra blue cross to that side for balance. I have decided to put away this project until number 2 is called which is summer. However, I have updated my floss ring to include only the summer colours.

What I’m Working On: May 18, 2026 from Jo's Country Junction

I had an okay week in the sewing room. I didn’t get as much done as usual, but I worked on several projects, which made it hard to seem like I accomplished a lot. I had one machine occupied with my bow tie quilt. I’ve tried to record a video twice…I’ve had problems twice. I …

Cleaning And Cross Stitching! from Quilting My Way

This morning, Patrick and I were cleaning around the house. We took the vent in the washer apart. This time more water came out then before. We were trying to figure out why water was left in the drum. The vent was clean and clear. Go figure, but the water was plentiful. I used some of it for watering the plants. Didn't want to waste it all.

Then I played games for a bit. Got tired of that and started to work on my cross stitching.

I was able to get her face done and worked on her hair ...
