Crimson Tweed Update from Alamosa Quilter

I finally decided that I am finished with the embroidery on my Crimson Tweed. Here is the final layout, before quilting.

My Crimson Tweed quilt top

Would you believe that I didn't have ANY of the thread colors that I needed to seed quilt this with!? I was a bit shocked, but I gravitate toward the brighter colors and I need neutrals for this.

start of quilting Crimson Tweed with neutral thread colors

The tin shown in the photo above contains the 5 colors of thread, size 8 Eleganza solid colors, that I will use for the seed stitch quilting. This style of quilting takes quite a while to do, but I'm ...

I added a couple more charm packs and a new mister to my stash. I really like the misting bottles for the starch. They don't clog and give a more even spray.

stash report: September 11, 2022 from Making A Lather

We have more rain, expecting to last all day. I am sure the garden is very happy. I went to a rug hooking event yesterday, and, was inspired with the colors, and textures, and rugs.

I bought dye in case I need more for the background of my village rug.

Since, I had a project this year that needed civil war reproduction fabrics, I realize I have a lot of holes in my colors, and, that, I truly like the look of them. I hope I will use more in my quilting future. I added a tan piece this week ...

stash report: September 4, 2022 from Making A Lather

I have been cutting a bag of scraps in an effort to not buy any new fabric. The idea is that if I see how much I have of just the little stuff, then, I will see I don't need any new fabric to be happy. I can't say it has worked.

1 1/2 inch strips

It seems I have used a lot of 1 1/2 inch strips lately. And, it is my least favorite home cut. So, I bought a few honey buns at a really good sale price. Sashings will be simpler with these ...

multiples . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

This past weekend was a loooooong, lovely weekend!  I had a retreat with my Stitcher's Etc. group at Hinkle Hill Retreat House in Bell Buckle, TN scheduled for Thursday through Sunday.  But since I knew I'd miss my boat day with Todd on Friday, I took an extra day (Wednesday), which we spent on the lake . . .
It was really a gorgeous day.  Blue skies and popcorn clouds!  We didn't get into any rain (you never know when a little storm cloud is going to pop up, because of the high heat and humidity), but we did see ...

in with the new . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Do you know what happens when you make up your mind to back-post before you current post again?

Nothing.  LOL!

And the longer I put it off, the more daunting the task became.  So, here's what happened this past weekend:

I switched out my patriotic decor that went up in time for Memorial Day (and stays up through Bastille Day—July 14) . . .

For summery, sun-shiney sunflowers!
I love changing out my accent pieces for the seasons.  More and more, it's become mostly pieces I've made or been gifted.  I love that!!  Once I got everything out, I ...

Flora and Fauna from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Almost 5 years ago, we started a project called Flora and Fauna of Germany. I (Kara) can't believe it has been that long! We began the project as a way to use up our scraps of wool and cotton with simple blocks inspired by the flora and fauna I would see on my walks in Germany with our two hounds. We released 16 blocks over the course of the next two years—one in cotton and one in wool—and loved being able to have the opportunity to bring nature to life with interesting threads, fabrics, and stitches. Once ...

try again one monthly goal from Making A Lather

We are going to try this again for my one monthly goal at Elm street quilts. I have filled in the blank spots and squared the EPP for this little handsewn quilt. I want to iron all the edges out ( they are still wrapped around the paper templates), and starch it before I trim it. Then, I will add a border, and quilt it. I used this as my goal for May but, didn't finish it.

Spargoettes Show and Tell from Alamosa Quilter

The Spargoettes Group (Sue Spargo design fans) meet several times a month at my shop. Janet D. has been working on this bunny during her recent visits.

Janet D.'s bunny

The pattern is not a Sue Spargo pattern. I can't remember who designed the pattern, but Janet only used the pattern as an inspiration and for the main applique elements. She is doing a lot of hand embroidery on this in the style of Sue Spargo. She thinks she is almost done now.

Barb R. has started Squash Squad, a Sue Spargo pattern. She has all 9 blocks appliqued but has only ...
