Show Again from Quilts....etc.

Continuing on with the Ukraine quilts I continue to be amazed at the artistic work – it certainly isn’t the type that many do but amazing to be able to create that this one starts the photos left over that I hadn’t shown from other parts of the show – the “logs” in this log […]

Quilt Shops: Double Delight! from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. My dear friend, Debi, picked me up this morning, and we visited two quilt shops before we were finished for the day. Is there a better way to spend a day than fabric shopping with a friend? I think not.

Before Debi arrived, I went to work on a dessert I wanted to make for St. Patrick's Day. Lacking any Irish Cream, I ended up making something else. In the interim, we acquired the missing ingredient, and so I baked this up this morning. This is Chocolate Shamrock Bread Pudding. We haven't actually tasted ...

Brrr–cold night from Quilts....etc.

Yesterday was a busy day – I was outside bending and stretching trying to protect the berry plants from the 28 degrees it was to get to last night.  I write my post in the evening and schedule it for early AM so I don’t know what it got down to last night but here […]

Recap: National Quilting Day from Wedding Dress Blue

Saturday the weather here was not out-doorsy type weather…high, gusty wind all day. Oh, YAY! I don’t even need to make up an excuse to spend a little more time than usual indoors quilting.

First, I finished the top of a new Second Chances quilt I call “Have a (Few) Hearts.” Yes, it was inspired by the three applique heart blocks that were gifted to me. More information coming on that one soon.

And, there were tiny pieces left that didn’t want to be trashed. They became this improv log cabin-ish pin cushion.

And, another Windspinner block ...

Sunday Funday Sewing! from Allen Quilts

I finally finished up the intense custom quilting job I’ve been working on for the past couple of weeks. So, today I treated myself to some personal quilting time. I added borders to this cute little dinosaur quilt I’m making for my one of my little great nephews. I’ll be making another one for his… Continue reading Sunday Funday Sewing!

A Little Applique from Quilts....etc.

Glue basting was happening yesterday and those antique flat irons sure come in handy to help set the glue down.  A stack of four blocks – 3 from the Happy Daze quilt and one from Mercantile.  The applique itself doesn’t take real long to do and rather than work on hexies for the next couple […]

Two Days in a Row from Allen Quilts

Popping in real quick to keep this posting momentum going. I’m finishing my coffee while watching a quilting podcast on YouTube, getting ready to start my work day in my quilting studio. I’m about to cross the finish line on an intense custom job that will be entered in a local quilt show. I’m so… Continue reading Two Days in a Row

The Show from Quilts....etc.

I didn’t take near the amount of photos as I normally do at a show as Jessica and I were talking the whole time – Melanie had to cancel at the last moment so I drove up by myself.  It didn’t rain all day in fact the storms waited until I got home to happen […]

Betty B from Jean Swenson

Betty B
March 2024

My very first blog post over ten years ago included Aunt Betty’s 9 Patch quilt that had been started by my Great Aunt Betty, many, many years ago. I inherited this as a “flimsy” sometime in the last millennia (wow, that’s fun to say), and, based on the fabric, I would guess that she had made it sometime in the 1940’s. It was twin size, and unfortunately, wasn’t very well sewn. At that time, I disassembled down to the block level, selected the best of the 9 patch blocks and reassembled into ...

Scrap buster blocks from Want It, Need It, Quilt It!

I belong to the most wonderful Modern Quilting Guild, BrisbaneMQG and on sew days I get to marvel at all the talented quilters projects. Justine, a new member, had a pile of colourful 25 patch blocks with 1″ finished black and white sashing. I was immediately taken by their beauty and started making my own for my modern Bee quilt. Digging through my extensive and embarrassing fabric stash I started to gather 2.5″ squares and make blocks. I have caught the bug and it’s great sewing therapy in between other projects. Fussy cutting the black on white fabrics ...

Leaf Peeping from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. It's a quiet day here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch. I've done a couple of loads of laundry. Mainly, we're resting up. We'll be meeting some friends at a winery to the north tomorrow, and we'll stop off at the produce stand to get more avocados on our way back. We have dinner with friends next week, and my friend, Debi, and I will be visiting a San Diego quilt shop the next day. So, there's plenty on the agenda to keep us busy for the rest of our ...

Inflorescence Quilt Pattern Release from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Oh my goodness!! Pinch me because I think I am dreaming!! It’s another pattern release day here at Brown Bird Designs and this one has been a long time coming. I came close to picking this design to release instead of Garden Star 2 when I worked with Citrus and Mint’s playful collection many years ago. Instead, I put this design back in my pocket and have been waiting for the perfect time and perfect line to bring it into the world. This is Inflorescence Quilt, and isn’t she lovely?? Grab yourself a cup of coffee and ...

Squiggles, Dots and Lines Blog Hop from If These Threads Could Talk

Deb Tucker is introducing her newest fabric collection from Island Batik – Squiggles and Dots. I decided to make a small quilt using Deb Tucker’s “Curved Log Cabin Technique Sheet“.

A Curved Log Cabin Block is really an optical illusion. The block is made up of one center square with a series of narrow and wide logs sewn around the center square. It sounds easy, but if you’ve ever tried to make them, you know that it is tough to get them to come out the way you want them – nice and square. Studio 180 Design’s technique has ...

San Francisco Sightseeing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a fabulous day yesterday. The weather was dry and relatively warm. We even had some sun breaks for our day at the outskirts of San Francisco. The lighthouse didn't open until 12:30 pm, and so we had a leisurely morning. I started some chili in the slow cooker, and then I baked this scaled-down recipe of Debi's Skillet Cornbread to make it a "for two" recipe. It worked out great.

Mike was trying some new things related to the Starlink to see if we can get it running again. Nothing he ...
