Good morning, my friends. I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty happy to have reached the month when Fall starts. We've had a good summer here with just a few hot days. We've been delighted by a nice soaking rain from yesterday. It rained most of the day, and by the time we went to bed, we had a half-inch accumulation. Good morning, my friends. We've had some real rain here overnight. There is actually water puddling on the patio. That will go a long way toward greening up the field. And we future travelers can leave home feeling a little better about the fire danger while we're away. 

My first stop yesterday morning was to check on the Bumble Rumble dahlia, and I'm happy to say it finally opened. It sure took its sweet time.

Good morning, my friends! Things are just about to get crazy here at the Three Cats Ranch. Not that they aren't always crazy, but you know...insane. The next several days will be spent canning tomatoes, either as pasta sauce, or as plain old tomatoes. It's a big job, and I'm dreading it. When it's done though...that feeling of satisfaction and the gratification of having quarts of pasta sauce on the pantry shelves is worth all the work. If it ever stops being worth it, I'll stop doing it. So far, so good.

I’ve been wanting to do another paper pieced bird for a while, and this spring I finally sat down to work out a paper pieced bluebird. I figured everyone likes bluebirds—they’re bright and cheerful, and they have a reputation for being “family-oriented,” with early clutches sometimes staying around to help raise babies from later in the season.

But after I finished the bluebird, I started thinking about the fact that, of course, this is mostly a bird found in the eastern United States, and those of you who live elsewhere might have a very different favorite backyard ...

Before washing the quilts on display in my home I always check them for issues such as rips or stains.  It's rare for one of them to have an issue.  But there was the one time I washed and dried a quilt that somehow had what looked to be blood.  Even with trying every blood stain trick on the internet the stain is still very visible after many washings.  So as this little cabinet of quilts was emptied I checked every quilt.

Good morning, my friends. Welcome to a new week. How bad can it be with Pi Day tomorrow? I have in mind to make a Dutch Apple Pie for Two, but I could change my mind between now and then. 

For now, I'm busying myself trying out a new recipe for Orange Rolls. They can be made two days ahead, and then baked off when you're ready. I made the rolls first thing yesterday morning...well...maybe not the first thing, but close. When they went into the refrigerator, they looked like this:
