Georgetown January Block Nearly Done from Quilts....etc.

Sunday was a busy day and I nearly got the Georgetown green block finished.  It was about the only thing I worked on other then being outside for awhile squishing through the mud to the garden to do a little work outside. But first Georgetown-green block. First up was to make this ring I showed […]

Cold Weather Coming from Quilts....etc.

In the morning I got sewing done, then grocery shopping, then spreading frost sheets over berry plants and frost bags over bushes. I had hoped to get this first block of the center of the Dresden quilt further than I did, but that didn’t happen – now the hardest part betting this string around the […]

Best of 2023 from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Hopefully, everyone has recovered from Christmas festivities. We had a lovely holiday here, and I hope you did too. Today begins one of my favorite linky parties of the year. My thanks go to Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs for hosting this party for the past nine years. Thanks, Cheryl!

It's been a good year, all-in-all. We had a good mix of staying-at-home and traveling. Our biggest trip of the year saw us ATVing in Colorado and Utah with lots of sight-seeing along the way. There was also plenty of time for sewing and ...

Cats of All Kinds from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We survived our pre-Thanksgiving grocery shopping trip yesterday. The store was busy, but not too crazy. I'll still have to go back next week for some fresh mushrooms. It was too early to get those just yet.

When we arrived home, I was chagrined to realize I'd forgotten to get any tomatoes. We had an extra avocado rolling around in the refrigerator. I'd planned to add it to some BLT's for last night's dinner. (That would make them BLAT's.) So shoot. My dinner plans were shot. Oh, but then I ...

Monday, Monday from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Enjoy October while it lasts. After tomorrow, you won't see it again for a whole year. And are you ready for Halloween? As I've said before, Halloween is kind of a non-event around here. In 21 years in our house, we've never had a single trick-or-treater. We quit buying "just in case" candy quite a long time ago, and we gave up on carving pumpkins before that. It was fun when the kids were little. I used to make their costumes. If they remember nothing else about me when I'm gone, I ...

Rain Break from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. You'll be relieved to know I survived the dentist yesterday. Even the drive into town wasn't so bad. It's good to have that done for another year. But I'm a day behind with blogging, and so we need to back up to Monday. There was no rain on Monday, and so Mike and I grabbed the opportunity to plant the daffodil bulbs. I had around 22 to plant. Of course, I already have the usual yellow daffodils and white daffodils. I even have some fun ones in the form of this Riot ...

Seventy Pieces from Quilts....etc.

Wow in this 12th of 54 blocks I think this one has had the most pieces so far –70 pieces in this 10.5 inch block.  I worked on this block off and on all day – not a one hour block this time.  This one is called Bilby On the wall with the others – […]

Handwork and Others from Quilts....etc.

Yesterday was another nice day a bit of handwork done, finished an audio book by Karin Slaughter called “The Good Daughter” which was not in either series that she writes but a stand alone that I had never read before.  I guess I had overlooked her stand alone books and just read the two series.  […]

Passing for Normal from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Happily, my vaccine malaise has passed, and my usual energy level has returned. I still felt a little dragged out for most of the morning yesterday, but I felt good enough to get back to sewing yesterday afternoon. I managed to get Jericho Walls halfway sewn together when I ran out of fabric.

I was able to glean just a few more sashing strips from the odd pieces I had left, and so I used those to sew the far corner together.

When I quit for the day, I had it this far. Just three rows ...

Picking Out Color from Quilts....etc.

Block number 9 of NYB has begun, with that is getting the fabric picked out.  When I started this quilt I went though all my boxes and picked out most of the batiks and treated, pressed and folded storing them into plastic project boxes the only place I could think to put them for now.  […]

Stitching and Gardening from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We have a full day to prepare for our vaccines. We've both marked a sick day on our calendar for tomorrow. Our appointments aren't until 5:00 p.m., and so there's plenty of time to get some things done today in preparation for huddling under quilts tomorrow. Also, we have a box of Lipton Noodle Soup. It's our go-to sick person dinner. We make it just like the box says, but drop an egg in at the end and swirl it around with a fork. It makes the perfect meal when ...

Nothing But Slow from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. This is the second of two days of writing fast and stitching slow. I got my hair cut yesterday, and I'm getting a pedicure today. As I said earlier, I want to look my best when we get our flu and COVID vaccines tomorrow. Besides, our vaccines are scheduled late in the day, and so we're eating out afterward. If I'm going on a vaccine date with my main squeeze, it's important to look good. Wouldn't you agree?

Despite flying out of the house at the ungodly hour of 9:15 ...

Autumn Jubilee in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

Cool October nights are bringing the garden season to a close. While I still have some tomatoes on the vine, and more still green, they are mostly done. I harvested these, and I’ll pull up the plants when the first frost occurs.

There is still one squash left on the vine, and it finally appears to be ripening into a golden-tan color.

We are finally seeing a bit of color on some trees.

Because the black cherry tomatoes were unusual and flavorful, I saved some of those seeds for next year. See my method on my previous post Saving ...
