Have you ever heard of Kantha? Kantha means "Patched cloth" and is a type of embroidery performed in the eastern regions of India and Bangladesh. It is often used to make simple quilts with a mix of old saris and other discarded pieces of fabric. The rich history of Kantha traces back to centuries ago! I have a Kantha quilt I purchased years ago and what I love about it is the bright colors and big stitches running through the quilt. Kantha does not have batting in them, but it is very soft and perfect for summer nights. The art ... read more

I haven't had a single minute to sew this month. I've been trying to bind a baby quilt for about 6 weeks now. LOL. But there were miscellaneous piles of this and that teetering on shelves and counters in my sewing room and I knew it was time to put things back in order. Occasionally, I will pick up fat quarter bundles or Layer Cakes - especially when they are on sale - recently, I stumbled upon
read moreIt's been a couple of weeks since I've written a Monday post. Vacation was fun, but it was nice to be back home and spend most of the weekend in the sewing room. Saturday afternoon Scrappy Butterflies (self designed) had the last of the border strips attached. It's now a finished quilt top.
The butterfly blocks were started in 2013 as my second Rainbow Scrap project. I couldn't decide on a setting, that's why these blocks have languished on the UFO list for so long. It feels really good to get them into a finished ...

I stopped at SewEndipitous in Rock Hill, SC on our travels and bought a panel. It was shop hop week, and the panel was on sale. I thought it would make a cute charity quilt.
They had other fun things I hadn’t seen in the shops back home, but I tried to limit my purchases. My “want to make list” just keeps getting longer.

Over the years, we’ve come to find a few techniques to use for our quilt backs, and we’re sharing them with you here today, along with a FREE Quilt Backing Reference Chart that gives you quilt piecing diagrams at a glance, along with some helpful tips.

read moreI bought a layer cake. Well, actually I bought a lot more than a layer cake, but we'll leave it at that shall we? At least this goes with a border print that's been in my stash for many years, AND I have a pattern that will work with all this stuff. So it's good! Well, except for the part where I'm not supposed to be buying fabric. Ahem.
Even Coco thinks some of DH's t-shirts should go in the trash bag.
At our open sew last week, there was some fabric brought in from other quilters for the free table. I snagged these pieces.

I had a finish this week which makes me happy, and, helps with the yearly stash numbers.
At open sew, yesterday, someone, surprised me with a quilt top that she had made with fabric that I had donated last month. First of all, the turnaround time was impressive, and, the fact, that she knew it was my fabric donation. It makes it much easier to let go of my precious fabric knowing someone will enjoy it. She has plans to add a border, too, from some of it.

This was the last full week of August. September starts in just 4 days! I'm ready for cooler weather, but definitely not ready for it to be so far along in the year. It just seems the last half of the year really flies compared to the first half. So getting in my stitching time is really important the next couple of months. I did pretty well on that front this week.
- 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
- 15 minute days/August = 24/26 days
- 15 minute days/2023 = 203/236 days

I am doing it again!! Stitching Heaven asked me to teach on another quilting cruise, and I had such a wonderful time last November that I didn’t even think about it. I said yes!! I decided to give myself a nice padding of time to get familiar with the quilt that I will be teaching. And since I had access to advanced yardage of Michael Miller’s new line Summer Dreams, well, it was a match made in heaven!! Y’all, this is Turn Style Quilt. Isn’t she lovely!!
I am working on an older ufo called spoolin around. I found the pink I wanted for the setting triangles in my stash, but, I couldn't find a green I like with it for the border. I went through everything on the shelves. anything, I liked I did not have a large enough piece. I have a million yards of fabric, how could I not have what I needed? I checked my back up storage, ahem, yes it is a real thing. Still nothing. I even tried to change colors. So, I repeated the process with blues. I had ...

It was a good afternoon project. These fold up very nicely to tuck into your bag when going to the store. I've always got one in my bag.
One of the joys of life is receiving fabric in the mail. Knowing someone trusts you enough to make comfort quilts with it and sends it to you is an awesome humbling position that I have blessed with. Gwen has sent me fabric, especially backing fabric, before and it has so helped me to complete quilts to give away.
Her latest box had all kinds of goodies in it. How exciting! I sorted by size and type, color. It got my brain thinking.
I didn't buy any new fabric this week. I did find a pile of leftover fabric from my Kristal quilt, and thought I should decide what to do with it, since, I didn't want to put it away. haha
I haven't added anything new this week to my fabric stash. I have cut some scraps from trimming quilts. I cut some 4 1/2 inch squares from cream for an older ufo of shirts.
