When we were children, we would fill our lives with creativity, whether through drawing, playing imaginary games, or cutting up cardboard to make… things marvelous creations to impress our parents! As we got older, our creativity became much more focused into either what we really enjoyed doing, and become quite proficient in our chosen medium of creativity. Although from our safe, chosen medium, we might stray into related fields – scrapbookers might dabble in card making, quilters with garment sewing, and knitters with crochet.

Of course, while there’s always exceptions, I feel like it’s safe to say that once ...

Hands up who has a bucket list of quilty projects and crafts you’d like to try and make someday? All of you? Yep, my hand is up too. After having tried and not particularly clicked with crochet, next up on my non-quilting crafts to learn is knitting. Want to know a secret? Even though quilting is my job, it’s still exactly that – a job. And sure, I might be able to squeeze in a little extra sewing time for fun at times of the day when other people with jobs can’t, but the truth of the matter is that I too still struggle to make time for the hobby side of my quilting. This summer I was surprised by several out-of-the blue, generous gifts. One of them was from illustrator Nina Bunjevac, with whom I communicate occasionally on social media – we have a little Mutual Admiration Society going. I am really a very organized person. I know where to find what I need. I could say, “A place for everything, and everything in its place,” only that is not quite exactly true.

While I am organized and I know where everything is, I can become someone who is consumed by stacks of this and that. Yes, I know what is in the stacks, but all those stacks are robbing energy from me.

Well, it's been 10 years of quilty blogging! Funny how the very first post still holds true. Probably still be trying to talk to myself if it wasn't for all my blogging friends! Here's one of the first quilts that actually made it onto a post. I was super selective back in the early days, terrified of posting too many pics. It's an American Patchwork pattern that seemed pretty intimidating at the time. You know what that means, right? Yep. I was thrilled and feeling proud. Still hangs in my living room today!
