The Fruit Of The Spirit – A Quilters Journey from Adele Mogavero

I’ve read the Fruit of The Spirit Scripture a zillion times over the years. But I looked at as a list of how to act. Loving, kind, gentle, joyful, patient, etc. You know, perfect. And of course, none of us are perfect! It took reading ....

Are You Working Against Yourself? from Adele Mogavero

You start working against yourself if your thinking pattern starts with I hate this or that… Let me show you what I’m talking about. When I opened my shop in 2012, it was merely a diversion of sorts, something to do for fun.     It ....

3 Reasons To Play and Experiment Creatively from Blossom Heart Quilts

When we were children, we would fill our lives with creativity, whether through drawing, playing imaginary games, or cutting up cardboard to make… things marvelous creations to impress our parents! As we got older, our creativity became much more focused into either what we really enjoyed doing, and become quite proficient in our chosen medium of creativity. Although from our safe, chosen medium, we might stray into related fields – scrapbookers might dabble in card making, quilters with garment sewing, and knitters with crochet.

Of course, while there’s always exceptions, I feel like it’s safe to say that once ...

How To Find Time For Sewing from Blossom Heart Quilts

Hands up who has a bucket list of quilty projects and crafts you’d like to try and make someday? All of you? Yep, my hand is up too. After having tried and not particularly clicked with crochet, next up on my non-quilting crafts to learn is knitting. I had hoped to do so this winter with the help of local friends, buuuut the world had other plans and so I’ll try again next year.

Last week, I shared about how any quilt is possible if you take it one step at a time… the follow up from that ...

Four Projects I Made Little By Little from Blossom Heart Quilts

Want to know a secret? Even though quilting is my job, it’s still exactly that – a job. And sure, I might be able to squeeze in a little extra sewing time for fun at times of the day when other people with jobs can’t, but the truth of the matter is that I too still struggle to make time for the hobby side of my quilting. I know that the same can be said for many other people for whom quilting is only their hobby – finding time when life is busy or stressful can be so hard.

When ...

With A Dash Of Hope from Adele Mogavero

With a dash of hope, I finished my Peach Cobbler block and wondered how it got its name. Was the designer making a peach cobbler at the time? Did they make all the original peach cobbler blocks with peachy colored fabrics? I see hope, not ....

Nina Bunjevac’s Tarot from Nina Paley

This summer I was surprised by several out-of-the blue, generous gifts. One of them was from illustrator Nina Bunjevac, with whom I communicate occasionally on social media – we have a little Mutual Admiration Society going. She sent me a set of beautiful French tarot cards, which I received last week and promptly stared at for several hours.

Although we share a first name, I promise that doesn’t bias me. Bunjevac’s line art epitomizes what I’ve always thought line art should be. She’s a direct creative heir to one of my all-time favorite illustrators, Virgil Finlay, and ...

Eye Contact from Ann Quilts

An exhibit called Eye Contact: Creating A Connection has recently opened at the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg, VA.  The exhibit runs through September 15, 2020.

I love everything about this show.  For one thing, I always love a challenge quilt show.  I find all the different, creative ways the challenge topic is expressed to be endlessly fascinating.  I also love this particular show because I have a quilt in it, and I had such a deep experience in making the quilt.

The quilts are small - 23" wide x 5" high - and the only instruction to the artists was that ...

Eye Contact P.S. from Ann Quilts

So, having just blogged about my entry in the Eye Contact show yesterday morning, this post about the exhibit showed up in the evening on my instagram!  (It's in two pieces because I couldn't screen shot the whole thing in one go.)

And then, this afternoon, another post by the Virginia museum.

So, I get to share a little bit of the exhibit.  And look up above NiYa's quilt (wouldn't the restaurant that inspired her design be a fun dining experience!) and....Hello!  There are my eyes!

Don’t Get Caught Up In the Negative Stuff from Adele Mogavero

It’s easy, especially right now, to get caught up in some negative stuff. And when you work hard at a project, and everything seems to go wrong, it’s easy to want to give up. That’s what happened to me while I was making the Lemoyne ....

Reclaim Your Creative Energy from Professional Quilter

reclaim-creative-energy

I am really a very organized person. I know where to find what I need. I could say, “A place for everything, and everything in its place,” only that is not quite exactly true.

While I am organized and I know where everything is, I can become someone who is consumed by stacks of this and that. Yes, I know what is in the stacks, but all those stacks are robbing energy from me.

When the space is clearer, so is my mind. When my mind is clear, I will work better.

I know this to be true. I also ...

10 Years of Quilty Blogging from Quilty Folk

Well, it's been 10 years of quilty blogging! Funny how the very first post still holds true. Probably still be trying to talk to myself if it wasn't for all my blogging friends! Here's one of the first quilts that actually made it onto a post. I was super selective back in the early days, terrified of posting too many pics. It's an American Patchwork pattern that seemed pretty intimidating at the time. You know what that means, right? Yep. I was thrilled and feeling proud. Still hangs in my living room today!

I seriously ...
