What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

I've finally completed this little art quilt. This one started out with the frame. I had one that Richard had made but I'd measured incorrectly, so it was just sitting, waiting for something. This sunset is my rendition of a photo I took one evening after a rainstorm. 

I wanted to emphasize the contrast of dark and light clouds. To do that I broke up the light sky with deep, royal purples and blues. 

And to add some shimmer to the light clouds, I tacked on a shiny organza, which was a difficult, messy chore.

A few days ago I pulled this last piece from the Sherry Lynn Wood workshop that I attended back in November. It had been bothering me that 1.) I didn't like it and 2.) it was taunting me, if you will. I determined that I needed to use it or chop it. Either way, something had to happen.

So I decided to first try to use it as is. Once chopped, there's no going back, soo....

I liked the almost Dresden plate section, so why not start there. I made several chunks of rounded shapes, mostly in blue ...

 Marley has been sewing with me quite a bit. She made face masks for her family, handkerchiefs for her Poppa, and a pair of shorts for herself. Two days ago she decided that it's time to make another quilt.

A few changes

This is the last Saturday in April for the rainbow scrap challenge. I need to make sure all my projects have their blue on. This is the shine block.

I found several blue scrap pieces small enough for the houses and the wonky stars. Note to self, If I start with houses, I will automatically have little triangles for the stars. Rumor has it that Kathy from Sane, crazy, crumby quilts is working on her top of tiny houses. She was the inspiration for these cute blocks. I can't wait to see it.

I think it is Saturday again and time for the rainbow scrap challenge. The color for April is light / bright blue. I started with 1 1/2 inch scraps and made a few country roads blocks. I like to make these blocks. The cutting is super easy, and the sewing is quick. I might like to try these in a different size. I have 2 inch and 2 1/2 inch strips in the scrap pile. hmm

Hello everyone! I hope you are all feeling well and healthy, and that no one is going too stir crazy yet. This is a weird and challenging time, isn't it? It's like a slow-motion science fiction movie right now. Lots of stress and lots of strange things happening. Who ever thought we would live through a time when half our country is locked down? Hello all, and happy Friday the 13th!  Just what we need, right? Gosh, I hope you all are having a much better time than I am right now. I want to keep this light, so I'll just say that my university has shut down, like many many others, and we are moving all of our classes online. This is *much* harder than it sounds. It's Thursday night as I write this, and I've already put in about 55 hours this week, with more to come. Why cancel meetings when you can have them all online? Why not ...

Hi everyone! Hope you have had a good week! Painting continues at our house, and the place is looking much brighter and sunnier. Much less depressing all the way around.  And hey-- has anyone else noticed that the spell check button is gone on Blogger? This is annoying, so if anything is misspelled today, it's because my eyes were too tired to proofread properly. I need that button back!

When someone is covered in a cozy, warm quilt, they are reminded that someone sat at a sewing machine for hours, carefully piecing and stitching, with them in mind. A handmade table runner sitting on the family dining table shows a loving home to all who feast there. To be gifted a wall hanging is a reminder that they are loved by its maker.

I need to spend time making those blocks that I missed. Every one I make, I fall in love with when it is done. I don't have a design wall, so I haven't seen them together yet. I am really looking forward seeing the colors play together.

There are a few quilts that every quilter should make at some point in their quilting career. Everyone should make a scrappy quilt, because of all the remnants that we gather over the years. What else are you going to do with them? Everyone should make a quilt for charity. It is just good for the soul.
