Orange and purple flock from The Academic Quilter

Hello all! So here we are at August, which means that the end of summer is coming faster than we think. In honor of that, while you are reading this, the hubster and I are off on our last summer adventure, to a place where the chances of rain are much lower than they are at home, so I'm hoping for blue skies and cool breezes.

Before we left I finished up the orange and purple birds for the rainbow scrap challenge, so here they all are together:

Yes, it is not a great picture! One of the poor ...

Three Free Patterns, Chocolate Strawberry Cake, Kim's Flower Pots, Purples For July from Canadian Needle Nana

I'm not feeling up to par this morning. Yesterday I turned my left ankle on a late afternoon walk (am I fit to leave the house anymore???) and it throbbed lightly in the night, enough to wake me around 2 and I didn't get back to sleep till 4 ish. Up at 6:30 per usual with Ned and relieved the ankle is a little sore but totally walkable. That's the good news.

And that aside, what bothered me is this... it didn't occur to me to get up and take a Tylenol. That link between ...

Three Thrift Store Finds, Wheel Within a Wheel Block, Floral Motif Sampler from Canadian Needle Nana

The American Robins love the bird bath. This is a young one who just wouldn't leave it one day last week. Despite his grumpy look, he took such enjoyment it put a smile on my face watching hm.

I had this very odd thing happen to my finger on Thursday last.  Felt a searing pain and saw a blood vessel swell very suddenly in my right pointer finger. As I was thinking I need to get to the hospital, it stopped as quickly as it had started.  I now have a reddish bruise in the spot.
 Google has told ...

Happy July! from From the Strawberry Patch...

I missed wishing you all a Happy 4th of July, but, today, I'll wish you a happy July instead! Our flag was flying proudly yesterday, as always, and we're keeping busy as these days grow increasingly warmer. The potted flowers in front have never been prettier than this year, I can't take any credit, all I did was set them into the pots. Recently, we've had additional heartbreak where our nesting

Thursdays' Three Free, Five Fledglings, Two Bleeding Hearts, One Basket Case Quilt from Canadian Needle Nana

I have had a good week and by good I mean productive as per a retired old lady. Played ball and walked the dogs a lot, cleaned and refilled the bird feeders, dug around a bit more in the garden, tidied the pesky cupboard and flotsam drawer. I also washed our bed pillows. Do you do that?  I run them through the machine with clorox and then again with no detergent a couple of times a year.  We don't have fancy ones that might need dry cleaning.  I swam a little too and took photos as well.  It goes ...

Thursdays' Three Free Patterns, Blooming Times, Lemon Cake, In My Genes from Canadian Needle Nana

The view out my kitchen window now the rose bushes on either side of the walkway are in bloom.  They will rebloom till frost gets at them in late October.

That box is one we keep there for deliveries. We started doing that during the pandemic and found it worked well. I think the drivers probably like it too with not having to come up all our steps.

Another cake from daughter...a lemon one that I really loved. She made the lemon curd and combined it with a mousse cream topping.  It was just the treat with a cup ...

Out and About from Romany Quilting

We've enjoyed a few little outings lately, meeting up with friends for lunch.  In fact, last week was very social indeed, with two lunches in a row.  The first was down at Paraparaumu Beach – where I did a drop-off with a bag of donations for Foster Hope, a charity which helps children in foster care.  The children often arrive at their foster homes with very little indeed,  so Foster Hope gives each child a back pack with toiletries, pajamas, underwear, and whatever else they made need.  My donation last week was a selection of 18 draw string bags for ...

Improv Piecing and Spring in Western Oregon... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I am trying to finish up some improv pieces

I started back in 2020...

I put a few up on the design wall...

I have a good start...

I think I will make lots more !

I went through the scrap bag and found pieces

leftover from a hexagon quilt I made

quite a few years ago:

I separated the scraps by color...

Doesn't this just make you want to

sit down and stitch?

While I stitch improv triangles,

I can see how they work together

across the room on the design wall...

I haven't spent ...

New Tilda Project, Free Embroidery Patterns, Choki, Gardening from Canadian Needle Nana

Here I am up at the farm years back planting Morning Glories along the back yard area that the dogs roamed in. Murphy was keeping pace with me as I moved along. These are seeds I would have germinated in the tiny green house attached to the barn. I enjoyed training the vines up that fence to cover it up. Happy Spring Memories!

I've been following Choki on YouTube for about two years now. I've shared this before but thought I'd mention again for new readers.  I find whatever she makes looks so good and it also ...

Becoming Grandma Kramer from Jo's Country Junction

My husband’s mom was a great lady.  I really loved her and she was so kind to me.  Even if I tried really hard, I couldn’t think of a bad thing to say about her.  Growing up, my kids all called her Grandma Kramer.

When I became a grandma my kids all decided that there was no way they were going to call me Grandma Kramer to their kids as they just couldn’t get past their Grandma Kramer to call me Grandma Kramer.  I was fine with that.  They asked me what I wanted to be called ...

Weekly Wonders at the Wooden House from Canadian Needle Nana

The Eastern Phoebes are nest building on the back of the house. I'd cleared out last years nests and two pairs are using the exact spots again. Location, location, location, I guess. LOL

It was Anzac Day, April 25, recently. Newfoundlanders were the only North Americans to fight along side the Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli in World War I. This event is marked by the Royal Newfoundland Regiment each year. In 2021, the bands of both forces, while continents apart, linked up to make this video.  The piece is called Invercargill, named after a city in ...

2 In Between Quilt Projects, Raisin Oat Cookies, Tulips For Planting Time from Canadian Needle Nana

Emily's Quotes- Pinterest

I've just put another pan of raisin oat cookies in the oven. The smell is fragrant.  Make no wonder cinnamon is so prized among spices; it makes anything baking smell so delicious.
Outside we have had rotating bouts of snowflakes, hail, rain and yes even sunshine all these recent days. There was snow on the ground when I got up Sunday morning...I suspected because the light behind the blind seemed whiter. That bit didn't last at all.  Today we have a promise of 12 C.

Getting back to the cookies, I used partial ...

For the birds from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone, and happy (soon to be) Opening Day! This is a true sign of spring and is a big day in our household. It happens that our favorite team is opening here in Baltimore, so guess what we'll be doing next week? I hope we can find parking!

It has been a very busy week here, so all I got done was making some birds for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. They are super cute, though, so they have been hanging out here and cheering me up. Here's the whole flock of pink and yellow birds:

Aren't ...

Tremendous and Trite Thursday Things From Me from Canadian Needle Nana

March Moon with planes flying again and UFO, LOL.

Raining as I write, but Ned and I had a wonderful rain free walk early morning in the cool but invigorating fresh air. Saw three American Robins and two little Downy Woodpeckers while being seranaded by bird song all around. I sat on the skating shack steps, took time to breathe in the air and reminded myself of wonderful things I am very thankful for.

I love that the Indiana Barred Owl live cam is back up and running. I've lost track of how many years I've watched.  She ...

Morris Strawberry Thief, UFO Scrappy Runner, A Question, Ugly Gardening Perks from Canadian Needle Nana

Hello all! The Fur Papa and I are well and thankful to have our health and strength to see us through all our daily activities this week. That there is the first bread from our new bread machine. It worked so well-much quieter than the old and gave us a lovely loaf.

A quick question for you???? With a flying geese border, should the top and bottom be like the sides? I sewed a row together like this and now think it should be the same as the side strips. Is there a rule I wonder.
I love these Ginger ...

Sunday Chat with Wildlife from From My Carolina Home

It has been a full week of wildlife visitors, with lots of animals and birds stopping by. I give treats to some, and some I have to hold my breath not to scare away. There is a small herd of five female deer that live in the forest on our property and the adjoining properties. We don’t see them often, but this day My Sweet Babboo came in to tell me they were on the hill behind the house. We didn’t dare go out, as they would bound away, so I got the camera and took a photo ...
