Wednesday Wait Loss 460 from The Inquiring Quilter

Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss!

WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group! As you can see, I’ve been doing this for years (over 400 weeks!) and so our group is strong, loves to share, and is very welcoming.

If you are new to linking up, I have a separate page that steps you through the whole process.

What I’ve been up to

Midweek: snow + starts and near-finishes from With Strings Attached

We had a classic lake-effect snowstorm Sunday night into Monday morning.  13" fell in our town on the lake shore but there was only a dusting at the west end of the county and further south.

The back yard at 5:30 a.m.  Monday.  See the shed?  That's where the snow shovels were.   I put on my boots and retrieved them.

It warmed up and here's the same scene this morning.   The temps will reach 60 by Friday so all the snow will be gone.

Midweek: quilt show, estate sale, and a finish from With Strings Attached

Tuesday morning:  the sunrise over Lake Michigan.

I'm awake early in the morning but I'm not always dressed and sufficiently caffeinated to go down to the lakefront.

The Village Quilters held their biennial show at the College of Lake County on Friday and Saturday.  Irene and I went on Friday.  We saw many friends from our guild and others.  Here are some of the quilts on display.

Local shows are great, aren't they?

There were more than a dozen vendors.

I made a contribution at the Quilts of Valor booth and in return got to choose fabric ...

Midweek: dolls, a finish, WIP + reading from With Strings Attached

"Oh, You Beautiful Doll" was the program at yesterday's Zion Woman's Club meeting.  Lorna began collecting and recreating antique dolls in the 1990's.  She has traveled all over the country to doll competitions (she's won!),  sold supplies, and taught classes. She makes the porcelain heads and bodies herself. She brought samples of heads as greenware (rather squishy), bisque (first firing), and porcelain (second firing).  She makes all clothes including the shoes (leather sourced from old gloves).   Most of the club members have known Lorna for many years but none of us knew the details about her ...

Midweek: stash report and goals from With Strings Attached

Yesterday Lynn and I had a nice catch-up and a good long walk in the sunshine at Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve.  We've known one another since kindergarten and reconnected at our 50th high school reunion.   She lives about 30 miles southwest of me.   After the walk we continued the conversation over lunch.

She is a realtor and a writer/editor (EmpowerWritingService . com)

Now it's time to welcome a new month with an autumnal rabbit, rabbit.

Midweek: RSC collage + something new from With Strings Attached

It's been a while since I walked the trail at Sedge Meadow.  74 degrees and sunshine made it most pleasant.

I saw three bottle gentians!  (The third one is at the lower right.)

This circle of little heart-shaped leaves came into view just as I was telling Stevens how much I missed him.

Midweek: all the hikes + placemats from With Strings Attached

On Monday afternoon I completed the penultimate and the ultimate walks for Hike Lake County 2025.  This is the sixth year I've participated.   Of course I'll keep on walking the rest of the year.

Upper left:  this channel is the Middle Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River.  It flows into the Des Plaines which flows into the Illinois which flows into the Mississippi and then to the Gulf of Mexico.

Monarch on ironweed.  Top:  Scarlet lobelia and asters; compass plant.  Center: Obedient plant; water smartweed or amphibious bistort (what a wonderful name!). Bottom: monarch on ...

Midweek: quilt show haul and under the needle from With Strings Attached

When you take your own car on vacation you tend to pack more -- "I'll just toss this in since there's plenty of room."  Same goes with driving to a big quilt show.   I needed a magnetic pincushion (to replace the one that was badly cracked (about 20 yrs old)) and I wanted a needle-threader (the kind that sits on the table).  I got those.

I also got a new cutting mat, half price.  My table (by Tracy's) is big and the 40 x 72 mat isn't carried in stores.

The bright LED light has an articulated ...

Midweek: it's a flimsy from With Strings Attached

We've had glorious weather with lots of sunshine and low humidity.  Ideal for hiking.  Three more forest preserves checked off the Hike Lake County list:   Fort Hill Trail and Singing Hills Farm on Saturday and Buffalo Creek on Monday.

Cormorants on a rock in the Buffalo Creek reservoir.

Singing Hills was a dairy farm.

Purple coneflower, ironweed, velvetleaf. Vervain, Maximilian's sunflower, goldenrod.  More goldenrod, stiff goldenrod, false sunflower.

Zion Woman's Club started the club year yesterday with a potluck luncheon and a program about chair yoga.  September is National Library Card Sign Up Month and we showed ...
