Friday check in: the heat is on from With Strings Attached

The cool front that brought wildfire smoke from the north has left us. In its place is heat and humidity. Not ideal conditions to begin this year's Hike Lake County! I went out after supper yesterday to the closest of this year's routes. Spring Bluff is near the lakefront so it is a few degrees cooler than inland. Early this morning I contemplated going farther west for trail #2, but even at 7:00 it was muggy. Hike Lake County goes until November so I have time.

Friday check in: wildflowers, a little sewing, and a lot of reading from With Strings Attached

The garden yielded enough basil for a big batch of pesto. I freeze it in 1-T portions. [For each 2 cups of basil: 2 tsp garlic, 1/2 c grated Parmesan, 1/2 c walnuts (cheaper than pignoli), 1/2 c olive oil, salt.]

I had three routine medical procedures this week. Two sets of results are in, one to come. I am not worried.

Midweek: topalong and round robin from With Strings Attached

Sunshine and somewhat warmer temps were conducive to good walks on Monday and Tuesday.

Gator Party, the June installment of the Running Doe Quilts topalong, is now a flimsy. I used shirtings (most of which I purchased at a rummage sale last weekend) and solids (from my overflowing solids stash . . . I don't purposely purchase them so how is it that I have two big bins full?).

The patches are 5 x 6-1/2 finished. The accent pieces began with 3" squares.

Friday check in: rafflemania from With Strings Attached

Stevens is still in the hospital. The GI tube has been removed and they're going to start real food today. He'll stay through the weekend (if not longer). I toured three care facilities yesterday and found one that I really like.

Our guild's annual Raffle Mania was Wednesday evening. Members bring no-longer-loved quilt, textile, and fiber-related stuff (like yarn). Each person gets free raffle tickets based on meeting attendance through the year. Additional tickets are available for purchase. I got six free and spend $20 for 35 more.

I set all the clocks ahead just after dinner Saturday. I've finally figured out how to do the clocks in both cars correctly the first try.

Two beautiful days this weekend got us out for a walk at the state park and a nearby forest preserve.

Friday check in: spaghetti prep, top-along, and a really good book from With Strings Attached

Yesterday was spaghetti prep day. Our Rotary Club makes spaghetti dinners (pasta and homemade sauce, green salad and dressing, a roll, and a cookie) to community helpers, shut-ins, and others who would like a home-cooked meal delivered to their doors.

My job was to buy all the supplies except for the sauce ingredients and the pasta. Chris (upper left center) is in charge of that. He's teaching new member Ted (upper left left). Harriet and I had salad duty. Interact Club members helped out. We used the kitchen at our church (Memorial UMC in Zion).

Delivery is tomorrow. Next ...

Weekly update: OMG February, placemats, and the top-along + reading from With Strings Attached

My One Monthly Goal for February is to get Old Town to the flimsy stage. One motivation is to reclaim the design wall. :)

The Quiltville FB group has photos of many versions of the design with different colorways and different sashings or settings or borders. I'm going to stick to the sashing as patterned but I may do something other than the checkerboard border.
