It's WET out there! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Could there be a glimmer of hope about the phone? I spoke to someone yesterday who has similar issues, and they have "solved" it by finding a spot in their house where their voice doesn't cut out (I wasn't sure if it was just their voice or the call -- need to check that out) and then they use earbuds to roam the house while they talk. Hmm --- that could work, but where is that sweet spot? I was standing at the backdoor with my phone outside yesterday and still had issues!

I was up late last night trying ...

» Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yesterday was a much calmer day! Phew --- I've had so much excitement lately that I wasn't sure I could handle more!

Before I forget, let me share the story of the lotto scratch ticket. I found the ticket when I was cleaning up - wait, I have another funny story to share about that! So I found this three-part scratch ticket. It wasn't completely scratched, and when I looked on the back, there was NO expiry date, so why not?

I think it won $10, so I might as well cash that in. When I went to that ...

The crazy quilter's day off! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

With the beautiful weather, it would be hard to work indoors, so I asked the "boss" if I could take the afternoon off. She said YES, and I was gone! It was a 15 KM+ day walking, and I got to walk someplace different.

Can you believe it was 10 ABOVE yesterday? No sun, but it was warm and really too nice to be in the house.

Warm temperatures

I live in the 6th largest city in Canada, but it's a strange city. It's comprised of many small villages that were gobbled up as the main city grew ...

Coincidence - I think not! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm so in my happy place these days. I'm making great progress in Studio B, getting work done and clearing things out. Even though the holidays are close by, I don't (by choice) have to rush around prepping things, buying, or making gifts! No baking and no place to go! I'm somewhat like my mother because I'm a home body and I'm perfectly OK with that. I'm surrounded by enough technology to keep me happy and in touch with others.

No cooking (leftovers are great), and I don't think I would do ...

Sorting threads from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Those birds were waiting for snow before they hit the birdfeeders! It was like a switch got turned on, and before I knew it, a pair of cardinals, a woodpecker, and many other smaller birds were feasting away, and I loved watching them.

Of course, the girls were excited by the snow and couldn't wait to get outside. Our area hasn't had much snow, and it was like a winter wonderland walking in the morning. Then it stopped snowing, but we haven't seen the sun in a long time! Where is the ...

Weekend at the Red Barn from Romany Quilting

This was a big weekend for us, it was Robin’s first time towing the caravan since his knee replacement.  We weren't going too far for the weekend, about 60km or so each .  He managed very well, of course, as well as driving, there was the hooking up to do, the legs to wind down, a bit difficult with his knee not bending very well.  He was on his feet quite a bit for this first trip away and was quite sore and achy when we returned home.  The Red Barn was a “new to us” venue, camping available ...

A contrast in worlds from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Two days ago, I was in a high-tech warehouse watching robots whiz packages around like it was nothing, and yesterday, I was driving along the countryside and saw the Mennonites in their horse-powered buggies. Schoolchildren and adults were riding bicycles to school or work. On my way home (dark and cold), people were still out in their buggies and on bicycles. WOW! And I found it cool in my car with the heater on!

I give them credit for maintaining their lifestyle when surrounded by technology and other modern conveniences that would make their world more convenient. But at what ...

There's snow in the forecast! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm excited to hear I wasn't the only one that loved the York Heritage Quilt Show. Sadly -- it's over, but there's so much in the quilt world to keep us entertained! The organizers should be very pleased as the show was well organized and had lots of entertainment.

I'm back home. I finished up at Thimble Quilts and Sewing Company (Windsor) around 4 PM and headed home. In the SNOW!!! What's that all about? I heard it was supposed to snow yesterday EVENING, not in the morning. Around 11 AM, I went out to ...

Snow! Yes a Little from Quilts....etc.

I can’t believe it – well yes I can Arkansas weather can be so very strange at times – a couple days ago it was in the 70’s-80 for near to a week and then Friday night after a brief rain and temperatures dropping we woke up to a light dusting of snow – this […]

I NEED a new long arm from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh dear --- the inevitable happened this morning. I decided that I need a new long arm. However, I don't think that is going to happen unless I win the lottery. Fortunately, there is "nothing" wrong with mine, except this.

As I mentioned the useable space on my machine is 17". I know it looks like more in the picture, but with the size of the head and the spacing required, plus allowing for the quilt to roll up (which doesn't take much as it gets compressed on the roller), I end up with 17" or workspace. I learned ...

Leaders and Enders from Romany Quilting

It’s no secret that I love working with leaders and enders.  It may have been around for a while, but I got the idea from  Bonnie Hunter, who likes to have a parts of a project sitting beside the machine ready to sew, such as two patches, while you are stitching your main project.  When I first started sewing, I used a ratty piece of fabric to start and finish the sewing sequence, but now I use this other method.  And before you know it, there is a whole lot of little pieces stitched together – something for nothing, and ...

Carpenters Wheel and Noriko’s Star from Quilts....etc.

Two quilts were worked on and I actually worked on the hexies for about 40 minutes yesterday morning on the porch while listening to an audio book – Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter – this is not a new book and not part of a series, I didn’t remember it but knew I had read […]

A Multitude of Projects from Quilts....etc.

Celebrating Wet from Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road

Two weeks ago, Sunday afternoon, we sat and watched thisA few days earlier we had two 0.6" rains and on Monday morning we added another 2.7".                                                This is the first moisture we've had since September and we are over the moon grateful for every dropSeems like most folks fuss about rain, but it's such a necessity for farmers and ranchers and out here in

La Rosararie (the Rose Garden) from Quilts....etc.

I’m happy to have gotten a good start on this quilt after it has sat aside for so many months – even with the points chopped off in so many places it will still make a good quilt – size to be determined!    These blocks sewn together and a narrow cream border to tie it […]

The Melting Pot from Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road

Literally:Welcome to the melting pot. Not fun. The older I get, the more I struggle with intense heat like this. We're 25 miles from town and we're generally a few degrees hotter. We're praying for rain, but I can't recall ever NOT praying for rain.My poor chickens are pantingWe eat a watermelon a week around here and I stash the rind in the deep freeze for them for a treat: and I spray down

Blue Scotty Dogs and String Blocks from Romany Quilting

More blue sewing has been happening this week, as I've been working on my Rainbow scrap Challenge projects.  Two blue scotty dogs were tackled first, luckily I had some blue plaid fabric tucked away.  I traced, cut and fused them one day, left them on the sewing machine till the next day when I stitched around them and added the black strips.  There, all done.

Then I stitched two blue string blocks, a 12in and a 9in block.  I like ...

The Weather Outside is Frightful from Romany Quilting

Isn't there a song which says that?  It’s certainly true in my part of the world, wind, rain, thunder and lightning, snow down to low altitudes and even some hail is promised!  It’s a good day to stay inside, I think.  We started off the day with a nice warming bowl of porridge, served with brown sugar and cream, the only way to eat it, we think.  I may well have Scottish blood in my veins but I enjoy my porridge a lot more titivated up than the real Scots porridge eaters do.  With a full tummy ...

Sew Wot Tuesday and Tommy Tornado from Romany Quilting

Tuesday morning was time to meet up with the Sew Wot ladies again.  Sandra was our hostess, and it was so nice to see Mary again, who hadn't been able to attend for a while. It was rather a chilly morning and Sandra soon had the fire lit and crackling away to keep the room warm.

Carol is very prolific at making knitted toys and had Tommy Tornado to show us – Tommy was born after a very scary incident which took place in our hometown early on Friday morning.  Believe it or not, Levin was hit by a small ...
