Have you ever seen 13,000 Quilts at once? My Visit to the Lutheran World Relief warehouse from Pat Sloan's Blog

This is an exciting video for me to share with you today.

As a community we have raised over $235,000 to help the children of Ukraine via Unicef.  I shared a quilt pattern that so many of you have sewn for charity by raffling it for funds, giving to people, and hanging in your community.

Being able to deliver my quilt to the Lutheran World Relief (LWR) and having a tour of the operation, priceless! It was so exciting to see this operation in action.

Thank you to Karla Walker of our community, with over 25 years of charity ...

Quilts for Ukraine from Wendy's Quilts and More

Look at what we've done! Eleven quilt tops and 140 loose blocks are heading to Germany today.
Thank you New Zealand and Australian quilters. (Full sized photos at the end of this post.)

Two months ago I decided to make a few blue and yellow blocks for Ukrainian refugee quilts. I never imagined it would grow to this.  We've made 360 blocks in total.  I received blocks from:

Tauranga Patchwork and Quilters

Capital Quilters

Howick Quilting Friends (both groups)

Glenys in Auckland (the kiwi blocks)

Marina in Feilding

Jeanette in Australia

Vivienne in Napier

Mary in Ashburton

Sue ...

Quilts for Ukraine update from Wendy's Quilts and More

So much has happened since I first wrote about the quilts for Ukrainian refugee children a few weeks ago. (You can read that post here.)

from Glenys in Auckland

My first 20 blocks turned into a quilt top

I got carried away and made 20 blocks before I even knew what I was doing! I could see on Instagram that Claudia @pfeilclaudia in Germany was receiving blocks from around the world every day, so I decided to turn my first 20 blocks into a quilt top to speed up the process when it gets to Germany. I asked Claudia for ...

Quilts for Ukrainian refugee children from Wendy's Quilts and More

Claudia Pfeil in Germany is leading a team of wonderful women making quilts for Ukrainian refugee children.

I became aware of this via her Instagram account, and I offered to collate blocks from New Zealand quilters and post them over to Germany.

The charity quilts ready to be gifted.

Ukrainian children receiving their quilts in Germany

I've chosen to get involved because Claudia is a woman of action.  She isn't just calling for blocks, she's finished some quilts already and has already started distributing them to the Ukrainian refugee children in Germany. Here are some examples of ...

sunflowers from Charm About You

Like many of you I've sure, the war in the Ukraine has been a horrible shock and weighed heavily on my mind. As well as making donations to charity relief efforts, and there are excellent resources available online to research where to donate, the craft community responded with many designers creating patterns to donate their profits. There have also been calls to purchase digital items from creators on Etsy who are in the Ukraine, this is easy to do by selecting Ukraine in the shop location menu in filters. These may seem relatively small actions but it all helps ...

Quilts for Ukraine 'your Blocks' & Secret Lives of Color #20 from Pat Sloan's Blog

Our weekend brought in snow and 2 REALLY COLD days, I'm now ready for spring! Virginia is lucky that we get spring sometime in late March, such a nice feeling to have it arrive. My small daffodils are up (and under snow).

I've decided that I might have a short attention span.. how did that happen? I work on multiple projects because after awhile on one, I need to change to do something else. I've worked like this for such a long time, I wonder if I ever did just one project? Even when I worked a ...

Weekly update: Ukraine from With Strings Attached

We are appalled, saddened, and infuriated by the Russian attack on Ukraine.

This post from the folks at A Mighty Girl explains the do's and don'ts of donating in a crisis.   Basically, send money rather than stuff.   We have done that.

But quilters gotta quilt and I've made a blue-and-yellow block to send to German quilter Claudia Pfeil.  My assumption is that she will get quilts to Ukraine when the time is appropriate.  Here is more information and her address.

Be sure to see Preeti's fiercely beautiful blue-and-yellow quilt in this post

Deadlines be damned... from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have deadlines. I have promises to keep. I have signed a contract that I must honor.

But these are strange and unprecedented times. And damn the deadlines. Because, right now, there is something else that I absolutely must do.

I have to scream till I am hoarse.  So here it is...

There are plenty of leaders (self-styled and otherwise), some are elected and others who have forced their way to the top. There are those who care about their countries and those who are in it to further their own selfish interests. And these leaders make plenty of speeches ...

Ukraine on my mind... from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have been superbusy working on projects that I cannot share at this time.

To be revealed later

But when Angela announced the RSC color for March, I had to take a break. I rummaged through my box of yellows.

Yellows for March

And found these two fabrics. Sharing with Angela's Linky party.

Sunflower - Bright

Sunflowers - Subdued

As I incorporate them in to my March RSC blocks, I will be thinking of Ukraine, its brave people and their remarkable President, who finds himself in an unimaginably difficult situation.

Must start somewhere

Work in Progress

Last week, scared and horrified ...
