countryside cottage finish from Making A Lather

This is a 2004 Joann block of the month that I have had for some time. I needed to finish it. The colors are rich and lovely. I have a couple in mind that I want to gift this. It is queen size. I have many joann quilts block of the months that I bought each year. I was so excited when I found them. The fabric was included and precut. The instructions had cute little hints that were actually helpful. I bought them each year, and then they have waited in a project box. Some I haven't even ...

Scissors and Piecework Buttonhole Sampler from Collector with a Needle

Velma on my NEW project
I have a couple new projects to tell you about!
I have been heads down stitching - and enjoying every minute.

First, it seems to take longer as Velma wants to be in the center of it ALL!  Yes, that's an all white project...needless to say it is a bit fortified with cat hair.

That's OK.

See more details below.

Ad for one style of scissor

Second, I have a web article for Piecework magazine - just out today.
You can read it HERE.

What does my project and article have in common?

kindness & fortitude from Charm About You

Last year I chose a cross stitch pattern to work on throughout the year. This was started in January 2019 and finished in December 2019 (only just got round to properly blogging about it), 15605 crosses in total. Of course I worked on other things too during that time but it was lovely to have this project to pick up in between. It was serendipity because my word for 2019 was fortitude. Obviously it wasn't just the title of the pattern that drew me to it, it is full of beautiful Quaker motifs inspired by antique samplers. There is ...

A Triple Bonus from Heart Desire Creations

3 quilts

A friend of mine who also happens to be an amazing quilter, will be soon moving to another part of the state.  She will be sorely missed, but we will still be bound by friendship and our passion for quilting. As part of her move, she did a cleanout! Look what came to live here until Hospice donation time:

This leaf deer head is so full of life – sure to give comfort to a patient and their loved ones.

This picnic quilt screams “Fun!” My hubby got a kick out of the watermelon fabric and especially the picnic ants!

Bright and cheery from Jean's Quilting Page

I designed and made the My Little Pretties Sampler quilt a long tme ago, but never quilted it as I didn't have time. Plus it hung on the wall in the classroom so nicely unquilted. I recently asked my friend Cindy to quilt it for me and she did! I love what she did!
Cindy does free motion quilting and said she was trying out a new design idea. She quilted in yellow and I really like that color choice. I used this pink/orange stripey fabric that I got not long ago because I knew it would go ...

UFO Sampler Part II from From Edge 2 Edge

This quilt is NEVER going to be visiting any quilt show or other place where a critical eye will be seeing it. It will only be at a guild for 'show and tell' or friends will see it. As such, I gave myself permission to not rip out little issues and just test different threads and design choices.

I can definitely see that I was not as accurate with my seams as I thought I was. The good news, I have gotten better over the years. I am mostly having fun with it and enjoying the mental gymnastics I am ...

Stitching a Sampler and More! from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

This time of year for Teri and me (Kara) is a little crazy. We are getting prepped and ready for our Academy of Appliqué class, and this year we have two new teaching venues, all around the same time. Needless to say we are stitching, cutting, and typing our little hearts out!

Our first class will be our Academy class, and we are teaching the first two blocks from our Woodland Reverie Quilt. We are excited about these two dimensional blocks, and we hope our students are, too! There are a few seats left in the class, so if you ...

beginnings and ends . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I love finishes!  This morning I can share not one, but TWO! Well, perhaps I should clarify. Not two completely finished, ready-to-put-up-and-enjoy-and-never-need-to-be-worked-on-again projects. But two projects on which I've finished the embroidery stitches! I wrapped up my pumpkin piece (by Crabapple Hill Studios):
I just love this sweet stitchery.  I love the character and variety of stitches and colors.  It was truly like painting a scene.  It's so yummy!

And I finished my teapot table topper . . .
I think the last time I shared anything on it, I was still whipping the hexies together! I finished the hexies up ...

purple lantern block from Making A Lather

I have another tiny tuesday block finished from the rainbow scrap challenge. I used a batting design board to lay the pieces the way I wanted them to go. I think the block was called lantern.

I sewed each row. The smallest purple went with the largest neutral, and so on.

And, then, I sewed the rows together. It needed a trim.

This blocks is set with a straight border finishing at 7 inches

We have had a big snow with single digit temperatures, We are not used to it this so early. But, it is so pretty, and, the ...

tiny blocks from Making A Lather

I think these blocks are so cute. I made these last week for the tiny Tuesday sampler from the rainbow scrap challenge. I am a little behind in my blocks.

I am enjoying sewing the wonky courthouse blocks in the evening at my treadle. As long as I have the strips in the right size, I can get them done quickly. I often run out of neutral strips, and then, I have to go on a scavenger hunt to find more of them.

Today is a beautiful fall day with actual sunshine, and I have a quilt group meeting tonight ...

Welcome Fall; We've Been Waiting! from From the Strawberry Patch...

At long last some cooler temperatures have arrived and it's feeling fall-like; the wait has been well worth it-- brisk mornings and pleasant afternoons under sapphire-blue skies. Quiltkeemosabe and I got together this week to work and compare notes on our progress with making, and writing up directions for, every one of the 202 six inch blocks from Rosemary Youngs' Quilt Block Bible. We have

Sampling Christmas Blocks from Bits From The Scrap Basket

I think making my Mrs Claus aprons at Christmas really lit my fire for Christmas blocks.

I've been seeing blocks that I'm itching to replicate - that's part of the challenge, isn't it? Seeing an image and breaking it down to see if you can make it yourself?

And Steve is enabling me over this. We headed out to the Ann Arbor Sewing Center over the holidays for a nice pile of holiday fabrics to tie all the blocks together. I figure on this streak I should have a whimsical quilt for Christmas.

The next block is ...

Sampler valmistui - Sampler finished from Tikkutaiwas

Olen pikkuhiljaa koettanut valmistella tilkkutöitäni, joita on vuosien varrella kertynyt rästiin jonkin verran.

Voit ihailla ...

365 Sampler Catch Up from Grey Cat Quilts
