To Do List for the Week of 02/20/2024 from Life In Pieces

It's not been the best week.  The pinched nerve in my leg is slowly improving, but I'm still pretty slow and sore. Add to that My Guy has a stomach virus.  The only good thing out of that is I've been sleeping on the couch due to my leg and apparently missed out on the virus. Thankfully my stitching time hasn't been impacted too badly and I did pretty well with last week's long to do list.

2024 Stay at Home Round Robin: Week #4 from Life In Pieces

No winter precip this weekend, but it was cold. So it was definitely a hang out in the sewing room weekend.  The main priority was to finish the prompt for week #4 of the SAHRR posted by Songbird Designs. You could choose from square in a square blocks or blocks set on point.

I went with the square in a square blocks around two corners.  It's been fun to watch this quilt come together.  The prompt for border #5 will be posted over at Quilting Gail's on Monday morning.  I'm looking forward to seeing what's next ...

my creative week... challenges met: SAHRR & RSC, a beaded necklace finish and a painting!!! from Not Afraid of Color

pattern from the book,Precisely Sew

I'm getting faster at piecing these large blocks (can't remember, they may be 16.5"

and it's fun to dig through the box of scraps for a variety in red prints and solids. I was surprised that with all the fabrics, the star just looks red from a distance!!

On both the red, and green one I chose to repeat two fabrics for the center to be more graphic. The tula pink fabric I chose to use for background (I use plain white for foundation piecing around the feathered star points ...

Another round for the house from The Academic Quilter

Hello everyone! Happy Wednesday! Halfway through the week, so everything after this is heading for the weekend. It is very loud here at my house right now. They are finally fixing the floor after our roof leak and there is a lot of pounding. There are four guys here and they all have hammers or nail guns. I know it will be worth it, but I really need somewhere to hide.

I have put another round on my stay at home round robin! This is a project by Quilting Gail and friends, and I think this is its third year ...

To Do List for the Week of 02/12/2024 from Life In Pieces

We woke up to about 3" of wet, fluffy snow yesterday.  Then it promptly warmed up and made everything messy.  But it was pretty while it lasted.  The roads were really slushy, consequently, My Guy's office had delayed start yesterday.  That threw off the start to my day, in a good way. It's always nice to have him around the house.  Though I didn't get to my housework,  I did make it upstairs to finish the last check mark on last week's to do list.

2024 Stay at Home Round Robin: Border #3 from Life In Pieces

This week I had hoped to finish off the third round of borders for the SAHRR before Sunday evening.  I was doing so well Friday on getting my triangle borders pulled together.  The first set of border blocks went up on the design wall just before dinner on Friday.  Something  didn't look right.  The diamond tips don't line up.

I'm paper piecing these diamonds. Note that a diamond is made up of two equilateral triangles and four isosceles triangles. These look wonky because the center diamonds aren't made from two equilateral triangles. I didn't draw ...

2024 Stay at Home Round Robin: Border #2 from Life In Pieces

It's been a cold and rainy day, perfect for lots of sewing time.  My focus today was to finish the second border for this year's SAHRR.  Last week's prompt was from Anja Quilts, using just two colors do anything you like for the second border.  I decided to go simple.

The rail fence borders were pretty easy, but those 9 patches with the 1" orange strips weren't as easy.  I didn't do too badly at matching the corners up with the sides, but even being just a tad off shows up with those bold colors ...

creativity round up from Jan to Feb in one day from Not Afraid of Color

I have a few things to show you in today's weekly creativity round up...

I've had a grand time painting, drawing and inking some Valentine paintings this week...

I tore watercolor paper into 4ths, and tried a different approach with the 8 small sheets. Some of them were from videos from the multitude of generous artists who share their techniques. Some from my own heart, and I'll share the rest of them next Saturday, closer to Valentine's day

all of them done quickly, while waking up and drinking my coffee in the morning. I sketch painted ...

January 2024 PHD Report from Life In Pieces

I wasn't quite ready for January to be over.  Now that it's the first of February it's time to take stock and link up over at Ms. P Designs USA with my progress on my PHD in 2024. It's not the picture I'd hoped.

No finishes and two starts, with a third start on tap for February.  I still have 11 months to get a few finishes.  Even though I didn't get to that point this month, there was a lot of progress on several projects.

Scrappy Butterflies (self designed) is now prepped and ...

Two rounds from The Academic Quilter

Hello all! How have you been? I'm doing okay. Classes are well underway and I'm already giving quizzes. Yeah, I'm that kind of professor. And hey-- apparently I'm in Blogger jail! I can't comment on any Blogger blogs. I just tried and it first refuses to 'sign me in' (even though I'm already signed in) and then when I try the other ways it tells me either that my comment failed or that I'm insecure. Okay, maybe the comment is insecure. It's unclear. So I'm sorry that I haven't commented ...

To Do List for the Week of 01/30/2024 from Life In Pieces

Just one more day in January.  January is such a chill month, probably because the weather is so bad, no one does anything.  It always seems that the months go faster the deeper into the year we get. So though the weather this month has not been fun, there is a part of me that is sad that January is almost over.

The weather has done a good job of keeping me in my sewing room.  Which means I did pretty well with checking off items on last week's to do list.

The First of the Year Quilt Alongs from Life In Pieces

I did this to myself last year too.  Being retired it was so easy to say, "I have lots of time for new projects."  Ha! Maybe that would be true if I'd just stick with one new project after the madness of the Bonnie Mystery that wrapped up New Year's Day.  But no, I really wanted to play along with 2 quilt alongs that started in January.  It took me all weekend, but I'm caught up on both!

The Just Two Charm Pack Quilts quilt along sponsored by Cheryl over at Meadow Mist Designs kicked off on ...

To Do List for the Week of 01/23/2024 from Life In Pieces

No power outages with the freezing rain we had from Sunday into Monday.  The roads were pretty much solid sheets of ice till sometime in the afternoon. Thankfully My Guy's company told everyone to work from home, so he didn't have to navigate that. It's supposed to reach low 40's here, I'm ready for a warm up, even just a small one.

Cold, stay at home weather has been good for my sewing time.  I did pretty well checking off items on last week's list.

2024 SAHRR: The Center from Life In Pieces

Last year was my first time participating in the Stay At Home Round Robin (SAHRR) hosted by Quilting Gail. I really enjoyed playing along and ended up with a really fun quilt for the 2023 SAHRR.

This quilt was intended to be My Guy's new TV recliner quilt.  However, Grad Girl decided that it needed to be hers.  She took the last quilt I made for My Guy, so it was time to come up with a quilt she'd like better so My Guy could keep this one.  She'd been asking for an orange and black quilt ...

Centered and quilty from The Academic Quilter

Hello all! How many quilts are you sitting under right now? It is seriously cold here in Maryland right now and I'm just sitting here crossing my fingers that someone moves our upcoming big work meeting to Zoom. Too much to hope for? Well, today I shoveled snow for the first time in literally two years, so I'm feeling entitled to hope for that.

I just have a couple of updates today. I know I told you about the Stay at Home Round Robin by Quilting Gail and Friends, and it starts this week! You can get more ...

I'll be looking at this for a while! from Not Afraid of Color

I pieced this a while back, it's just floating on a hand dyed gold for now. I decided to use it for my Stay at home round robin center this year. We are given weekly prompts for the next row/blocks to use on our own centers.

It was a free pattern years ago from QuiltArtDesigns and this was my post on the making of it:

To Do List for the Week of 01/16/2024 from Life In Pieces

I'm ready for winter to be over, or at least for this brutally cold stuff to move out.  We've got one more day before we'll see any temps above freezing.  My Guy is working from home today, his offices are closed.

The cold has been really conductive to spending time in the sewing room where the iron helps heat up the space.  Consequently, there are a lot of check marks on last week's  to do list.

To Do List for 1/9/2024

To Do List for the Week of 01/09/2024 from Life In Pieces

With Grad Girl here this last week, it's felt like vacation.  We've had our shopping day and our girls lunch. So it was a nice week on the family fun front. But the consequence is that there wasn't as much time in the sewing room and that shows in the progress on last week's list.

To Do List for 01/02/2024

1. Indigo Way: Continue clues 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and start 8 ✔

2. Malted Mystery: Finish clue 6, start clue 7 - progress
