Feeling kinda modern from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone! How are you doing these days? Things have not been too snappy here at chez AQ, topped off with a root canal and then final exams. Talk about piling on! But we're not going to dwell on the negative and instead we're just going to look at a nice quilt top I finished off this week. It's a little modern and a little different for me, but it turned out quite well and I'm pretty happy with it.

Here is my finished Solstice Sampler quilt top:

Sparkly stars from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone! Somehow, it was 72 degrees here today. Has someone checked to be sure it's November? I know some people have had snow already, but it looks like we're sticking with rain and above average temperatures for the next little bit. Totally okay with me, except for the leaves that keep falling.

I've got a finished top to show off today. It's my stars top from this year's rainbow scrap challenge, and I'm fairly happy with how it turned out. Here she is:

Well, that is different, isn't it? But quite sparkly ...

bunnies is a top from Making A Lather

I have finished my bunny quilt to the top stage. I think It is very cute and, coincidently, I am going to be a Grandmother again. I might be ahead on this one. Now, this quilt will be sent to the "to be quilted" closet, and, wait it's turn for the longarm.

hoping for a safe halloween for all the kiddos

We did just a little bit of fun decorating this year.

fair and square top from Making A Lather

Fair and square is a top. The borders have been added and it looks really nice. Everything fit nicely. I need a big back and some binding before it is ready to be quilted and added to the list. I have not been quilting in a bit, so, my pile of tops is growing again.

I had some baby starts that I added as an afterthought to my raised bed this summer. They have tried very hard, but, haven't thrived. I hope they make it to next year. Truthfully I didn't think they would even make it this ...

maple leaves from Making A Lather

I am ready for the last row for this quilt. I have a hodge podge of blocks that I want to sew, making sure the mix is what I want. This is one of my 5 quilts projects, but, I am tired of seeing it on the list.

I had hoped to make 10 rows, but the last row would all be aqua. sigh...

I made it to this point this week

I canned saurkraut the old fashioned way this week.  I found the idea on whipperwill holler youtube. They won't be ready for 4 - 6 weeks. We will ...

A challenge in black prints from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone! I hope you have been having a good week, though I acknowledge it's been a difficult one here in the US, again. (See the bottom of this post for some somber thoughts.) Once again today, we are in the rain. This week the grass was so long that there are clumps all over the lawn from cutting it. Seriously, it looked like a pasture or something out there. All the better for the flowers, though, right?

Did you ever have a project where you made a few blocks and thought you would really like the finished quilt ...

Bold choices for the Synergy Blog Hop from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone! How has your week been? I've had a very busy, action-packed week. Okay, the action was really just a bunch of grading and reading and stuff, but it felt like action in my head. I also managed to sneak in a few stitches and finish up something pretty and bold and not really like my usual at all. I hope you are in the mood for some color today, because I have something really colorful to show off.

Are you ready? Here she is:

I told you it was not my usual thing at all! This is ...

Several Things from Ravelly1

 Hi Everyone!!

It's been quite awhile since I've sewn anything so when I decided to do so my Janome wouldn't cooperate. In fact, she let me know by making very weird noises and the needle wouldn't raise or lower. So it was time to take her to get a check up. I packed her up and Mr. Cowboy & I drove over to the nearest Janome "fabric" store (65 miles away) to drop her off.  Three weeks later I got her home and discovered that whatever the thingy that the feet would fit onto was missing. In ...

baskets ufo top from Making A Lather

This is One of the 5 quilts I am working to finish

It was a buck a block from a store in Indy in 2014. I loved the colors and fabrics so much so that I bought the finishing kit, too. So, the monthly blocks were just the baskets. I am not sure why it has been an Ufo for so long, but, it needs finishing. I pressed and trimmed, and added the inner borders, and the outer border.

It is officially a top with a back and binding ready for the "to be quilted" closet. I need to change ...

finished top dart from Making A Lather

I decided to add a border to dart. I was able to use leftover pieces of jelly roll strips and I wish I could say there were no scraps left, but, there are. I am using a brown backing and black binding strips

dart -a free pattern.

Time for this quilt to go into the "to be quilted" closet

pressed, back and binding

As part of a new month, I did a check on my Ufo count for the year so far. I link up with Quilting Gail and PHD for the February report.

Finished fooling around from The Academic Quilter

Hello all, and a very damp happy weekend! It feels strange to say that with all that is going on in the world right now, but I'm still glad to have made it through the week. This was a much better week, except for the epic fail that appears later in this post, and I did get some stitching done. Which reminds me-- the first of the easy tutorials for a Hands2Help is coming up this Sunday. Be sure to tune in!

For this week, I finished up the top for the Stay at Home Round Robin. Yay me ...

jelly roll top from Making A Lather

Happy Birthday to my oldest - such a blessing. I have no idea how he could be getting soooo old.

My last try at dart, and I was so close, I came home and finished the top. I need to decide about borders. The pattern doesn't have any, but, I am old school enough to think I need one on every quilt. So it is an inner fight.

For a simple jelly roll quilt, I had to scratch my head a few times.
As a reward, I made treats - double chocolate sourdough muffins - yum

If I make treats for every ...

Fall color amid winter gray from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone, and happy weekend! Hope you have had a really good week. I finished getting ready for the new semester this week, and I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for it. And hey, did you notice that I redecorated? Some of the settings have changed since last time I did this, and I'm not sure what they all do, but I managed to get a nice pretty picture up at the top, and that's what matters, right?

I finished up another quilt top this week in between class prep, and before I show it to you ...

checkered past top from Making A Lather

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Ours was quiet. I did some fabric shopping on line for black friday. But, I sure don't like the shopping in stores on black Friday.

The border is underwhelming, but, it is a finished top. I used all the leftover strips that I had from the 2 1/2 inch checkerboard. This quilt used almost a whole bag of 2 1/2 inch recycled shirt strips. .checkered past  is a free pattern at quilted twins.

I have a back and binding ready to go and it will wait it's turn on ...

checkered past top from Making A Lather

Last week I sewed 3 out of 4 rows together for checkered past. I was at the guild's open sew and had time to concentrate on joining the rows with sashings.

At Friday quilt group, I sewed all 4 rows together for a finish of the top. I have decided to add borders. The pattern calls for another set of blocks around the quilt, but, I don't think I want it that large.

Cactus Flower in the rain from The Academic Quilter

Hello all! So, I tried and tried and tried to get pictures of today's quilt so that I could post it on Friday, but would the weather cooperate? No, it would not. It has been raining for days, and yesterday was incredibly wet. It just would not stop, and it's still drippy and gloomy this morning. Nothing you want to take a quilt outside in. Some coastal areas in Maryland flooded, and you should have seen the little stream at the back of our property. It turned into a lake!

So, I didn't get pictures until just ...

scraps in the barnyard from Making A Lather

I pulled this old ufo out of deep storage to see if I could get the top done in September.

I have the borders pieced and added to the quilt. I used mostly shirts and strips waiting to be trimmed.  It will wait it's turn for quilting. I found a back and made the binding as well. I really like the barn raising setting for quilts. It adds a fun twist to ordinary blocks.

Bricks in the barnyard is found in Bonnie Hunter's Book- scraps and shirt tails 2

In an effort to get more of my quilts ...

Twisting and turning from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone! How are you all? Thanks so much for your good wishes about my foot last week. It is doing much, much better, thanks. Turns out that if you actually sit down and put your feet up like you're supposed to, your foot gets better. Who knew?

So I was able to get down to the sewing room this week, and while I was down there, I finished piecing together the Snail's Trail quilt top. Yay me! Here she is:

October one monthly goal from Making A Lather

I didn't finish my one monthly goal for August until September, and, I didn't even make a goal for September. I have 45 of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet. Which is ridiculous. I have set a goal to work on the longarm with my own quilts at least 30 minutes each day until the end of the year. I wonder how many I can do with just 30 minutes. I am also hoping that once I start I will just keep going past 30 minutes. But, we are still finishing the garden.
