Trying to get ahead from Quilt in Progress

I decided to make some baby quilts ahead of having a need for them. I’m a worrier, and I’m concerned that I won’t be able to make them at the time they’ll be needed.

I have to take a certain biologic drug for my cancer for the rest of my life. One major side effect happened when my feet began to go numb. My feet are now numb and I have partial numbness up to my knees, fading like ombre.

Recently my fingers began to tingle. Now they are beginning to go numb just at the ...

Progress on t-shirt quilt from Quilt in Progress

I found more time to work on the quilt. I had listed the dimensions I wanted for each patch and started cutting the stabilizer. I added 1/2 in to each dimension so that I had a 1/4 inch seam allowance on all sides. As I had each one cut, I noted the dimensions on a slip of paper and pinned it to the pieces. I had the width noted first so I would know how to orient the stabilizer before fusing.

I came to the shirt that said American Classic, and decided I didn’t want it included ...

You probably know John Adams as a Founding Father of the United States. But did you know he was also a fantastic party planner? It’s true! (Well, kinda…)

The Making Waves Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Watch the Free Quilting Tutorial now!

When independence was officially declared, John Adams wrote: “[This day] will be the most memorable in the history of America. It ought to be [celebrated] with pomp and parade, games, sports, and [fireworks] forever more.” His 4th of July plans were so much fun, we’ve celebrated John Adams-style for 245 years!

But there’s just one thing Mr. Adams forgot: Quilts! Every good holiday needs quilts!

Simple quilt as you go Quilt! from Fostering Others

Sometimes you just need to make a simple quilt!  Sometimes you just want something to be simple.  Here is my simple go to quilt!

I’ve made a few of these over time.  They are so pleasant and easy to piece.  Especially when you precut them ahead of time, so when you need them, they are there.

To do this, I buy several pieces of coordinating fabric.  Usually by the yard.  Sometimes it’s a few yards. I randomly cut strips 2.5-6 inches by the width of fabric.  This will be your entire top.  I make enough to cover ...

Onshore Breeze from Jean Swenson

Onshore Breeze
August 2020

When I can’t sail, I quilt. My husband and I have been sailors for over 30 years, so naturally, when the grandkids came on the scene, we taught them that a nice onshore breeze is synonymous with good sailing. We often say, “Nice onshore breeze, we should go sailing!” Now that they are a bit older, we merely start the sentence, “Nice onshore breeze”, and they finish it </p>

Fancy Fox from Jean Swenson

Fancy Fox
July 2020

After experimenting with the quilt as you go (QAYG) method on my recent quilt Persistence, I continued practicing the technique here on Fancy Fox. However, instead of quilting each individual block, I quilted two rows at a time, which I liked better, especially since I prefer to hand stitch the back seam of each joined panel. I had originally planned six rows, but in the midst of making it, I decided to gift it to my grandson who likes foxes. So, I added a seventh row to make it a better length for his twin-sized bed ...

Persistence from Jean Swenson

Persistence
July 2020

I’ve been working on this off and on since January 2019. Life got crazy in 2019 with my daughter diagnosed with breast cancer, so this got put to the back burner. I am calling this Persistence, in recognition of my daughter’s fight with cancer, and for this quilt challenging my quilting and sewing capabilities to the max! Today is my daughter’s 1 year cancer-free, cancerversary.

Quilt As You Go, in PINK, and a Hole in the Wall from Elaine Adair Pieces

I had a LOT of pink strips, and a lot of extra batting, and some pinkish FQs.  What are ya gonna do?  No quilt name yet, but I know where it's going.  This method might not be for everyone, but I sure had fun!  I learned how to get that backing sashing strip close to perfect, by heavy pinning, and then stitching in the ditch from the front, and slowly pulling out the pins as I sewed.  I'm happy with the result.

New subject, below:  Plumber was needed, drain had been running slowly for months and I knew ...

#the100scrapchallenge from Sotak Handmade

Ever since our move in August I've been trying to organize my studio and all the supplies in the most efficient way possible, which so far has meant moving things around constantly. I think I need to take a little break and just see what works and what doesn't for a while and then get back to it again in a few months.

Last week though, as I was rearranging things yet again, I realized I have FIVE buckets chock full of scraps! I don't even know how that happened. I use my scraps all the time ...
