Project Quilting 16.1: Mythical Creatures from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Once again, I’m writing fast. Poor Sadie has to go to the vet this morning. There’s been no bloodshed so far, but one can never rule that out when Sadie is being transported somewhere against her very strong will. Honestly, for her size, she packs a punch. But, let’s not focus on that right now. I’m afraid she’ll be reading over my shoulder, and realize what’s in her future.

So it took me two days to finish my piece for the “Mythical Creatures” prompt. After thinking over several ideas, I ...

Marathon Stitching from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a beautiful day of weather yesterday. It looks like we're in for another pretty day today. It's a grocery shopping day, and so a dry day is always appreciated. The sky was pretty this morning, treating us to some pink and blue stripes of sky.

My day yesterday was spent hand-stitching...almost the whole day. Smitty was only too happy to help.

I was working on the embroidered portion of my Project Quilting 16.1 challenge...Mythological Creatures. I'll show this to you when I have it finished, but for now ...

Meeting of the Minds from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm a little bleary-eyed as I'm writing this morning. I woke up too early, and then couldn't get back to sleep. I've had worse early-awakenings, and so it's not all bad. And since I don't have to go anywhere today, it hardly matters. I'm sure a nap is in my future...maybe sooner than you might think.

It was a good sewing day yesterday. I sewed my guts out and got quite a bit done. The kitties and I had a meeting of the minds over the first challenge ...

First Quarter Check-in from Quilting & Learning

Hi, I was catching up on my blog reading when I found Yvonne's Quilting Jetgirl's First Quarter Check in party and post. It's been such a whirlwind of activity here that I thought that it would be nice to actually see what I said that I would do, and what actually happened so far! Thanks Yvonne!

Quilts

In my Quilts section, I got distracted and chased a squirrel! I ended up not participating in this year's SAHRR (Stay At Home Round Robin) but instead signed up for Joanne's at Canuck Quilting ...

Whew! what a week, so much studio time to finish two big projects, Stay at home round robin (SAHRR)  and Project quilting (Irish chain)

Just so you know, also this week I wrote a few stories, made ink and paper drawings, and cooked.

The first image is the center of my quilted SAHRR and here it is finished, including a hanging sleeve!

Newborn Charity Quilt from Mulberry Patch Quilts

Mikayla’s Grace is a wonderful charity in my area of Wisconsin that supports families with a baby in the NICU (neonatal ICU) and those who experience the death of a child or pregnancy loss at hospitals in the Dane County area.

Crafters from all over make beautiful handmade baby items that they sew, knit or crochet and send to Mikayla’s Grace — from gowns, hats, and booties, to baby blankets and quilts. Several times a year volunteers meet to assemble these donations into care packages and deliver them to local hospitals to distribute.

Melissa recently sent out an email ...

creativity this week, Project Quilting challenge met, purple scraps used and a few sketches for fun from Not Afraid of Color

see the fashionable ladies who lunch???
This was Project Quilting week, meaning we were given a prompt of "wearable" and one week to design, make and finish a project. She said we could include clothing fabric
cupcakes, fat chefs, chocolates!

repurpose a wearable

like an old Christmas apron?

or make something to actually wear, and I needed an apron so...

I picked fabrics starting with the fancy chefs, and fussy cut some strips to use, started piecing them large enough to cover the apron...

I cut around the apron with enough to fold under to stitch to the edge of ...

Quilt Reveal: Pajamas Doll Quilt from High Road Quilter

It's time for another Project Quilting reveal! The challenge of this week is Wearables.

Your project must be wearable, or have been made from previously worn items, or have another connection to clothes, shoes and fashion accessories.

I gave myself two choices:

  1. Make a blouse that I have been planning to make for a very long time. I already have the pattern and the fabric chosen.
  2. Make a quilt out of all the pajamas I have been saving to make a quilt.
Since I hadn't made a blouse since high school, I didn't think I could handle ...

Add a Quilt Block to Your Sweatshirt from Mulberry Patch Quilts

This week’s challenge for Project Quilting (Season 15.5) is “wearables”. You can turn clothing into something else or “quilt-ify” something you wear or make a clothing-themed item.

Here are the normal rules, and you have one week from start to finish to meet the challenge.

  • Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline.
  • Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
  • Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements: include patchwork, include appliqué, have ...

Quilt Reveal: Red and White Hourglass Quilt from High Road Quilter

I have finished the Red and White Hourglass quilt for the Project Quilting challenge for this week . The challenge is to make a quilt that is inspired by an hourglass. It must be started and finished in one week.

I've actually wanted to make a red and white hourglass quilt for a long time, years. I saw one in a museum and the docent would not allow me to take a photo of it, even though it is a simple traditional pattern. I drew it out and shaded in the red parts so I would remember what it looked ...

Fabric Tray for Project Quilting Challenge from Mulberry Patch Quilts

This week the Project Quilting 15.4 challenge is hour glass”

I knew just the block I wanted to use. Half square triangles pieced into a shimmering star. You can see the hour glass shape in the white star tips!

It was a very simple project and was cut, sewn, quilted & completely done in only an hour and a half.

After making 8 half square triangles, I added 8 squares to make 4 blocks measuring 4.5” (4” finished) each. Then I sewed the 4 blocks together forming the star (8.5”, 8”;finished). Next I simply added a 2 ...

Time Flies from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and Happy President's Day. It's another wet morning here at the Three Cats Ranch. We've been promised some drier, warmer weather later in the week. I sure hope so. It would be good to get out and pull some weeds before we take off on our trip.

Yesterday morning, I spent quite some time trying to generate an image I could use for Project Quilting's fourth challenge: "Hourglass." We could go off in any direction with this, but we were required to use the hourglass shape in our quilt. I had an ...

Project Quilting 15.3 - Inside Out, Challenge 3 from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome to another Project Quilting (PQ) challenge. This week, we were asked to create a quilt based on the theme, Inside Out. What an interesting idea. It did take me a while to figure out what I wanted to do. The obvious would have been to make a mini quilt with the seams showing, but I was hoping for something a little more original.

Inside Out or Inside Looking Out

I ended up making a meditation piece with a backing and many layers of fabric that were all hand-stitched. I also did a little bit of research on ...
